That schedule says to me, forget the tank.

I don't see that at all.

They got 2 tough games coming up assuming the Caps don't throw Copley at us again.

Then 5 "winnable" games, 4 of them on the road.

After that, 9 of the last 12 are pretty tough, those are going to be difficult as most of the guys are going to be in summer mode by then.

The next 7 are pretty critical in determining whether or not this team can sneak into the 5th spot. Now would be a great time for the team to go cold - even if they "heat up" again over the last 12, they're going to lose most of those games anyway.

Don’t look now, but Zibanejad has become a legitimate 1st line center who holds his own against any center in the league. The only reason his point total isn’t higher is because he had Fast and Namestnikov attached to each asscheek for a month.

And Kreider is the best netfront player in the league and one of the best drivers of possession in the league.

In answer to your question, show me the talent that surrounds them, and you’ll have your answer. If Kravtsov becomes a quality 1st line player, Chytil becomes a strong top six player, the next two drafts add the missing pieces in the top six and on defense, Zibanejad and Kreider won’t be the ones carrying this team to a Cup. But they'll both be major contributors.

Don’t get me wrong I love Zibanejad and Kreider, but I see it differently. On these true contenders they seem to always have two forwards that are true star players. Crosby/Malkin Toews/Kane Stamkos/Kucherov Scheifele/Wheeler etc. While I think Zib and Kreider are both good players I think they are also both a pretty significant drop off as some of the names above (while they were contenders Pit and Chicago). Yes we can surround them with a great team, and we could win. It just seems to me that typically top notch teams tend to usually have these two studs up front and I don’t think that they’re it.

We were an uncalled interference call and a couple of unlucky bounces from maybe winning that Cup against LA without elite players (non-goalie).

Just from memory:
Hagelin's breakaway is stopped late in the game Girardi blows a flat tire in OT.
Dwight King's blown interference call that allowed the comeback another OT (double) OT loss.
Another double-OT loss.

It was a pretty small margin of error in this series. Yes, you can argue that an elite player helps us win these tight games. You can also argue that maybe we could have won without so many non-clutch non-elite players like Rick Nash (10 pts in 25 games). Imagine having one Justin Williams instead of our host of non-shooters (year after year).

7 out of 19 games against weak teams? not that bad

If we remove our absolute worst stretches. the start of the year and that one in December/January we are a team that is way over .500.

But I don’t think that really say anything, the difference between most teams out of the POs and most teams in them are a few bad stretches.

or if we remove that good stretch in November and we are one of the worst teams in NHL.

Zibanejad is on his way to becoming one of those players.

Have you considered a career in this game? Seems like a natural fit...you're kind of already doing it...

I was in between jobs when the new CBA was released, so I read the entire document

I just like reading about the business side of things. It's very intriguing to me, probably because of my profession. It's easy to remember, when it's something you enjoy reading. Maybe one day, there's a job in the NHL for me. I could advice GMs league-wide on what to do hahahaha. For now, I will just be the guy who explains everything on HFNYR

Let's say we hit the lotto, would you go after Panarin then?

trade Names
trade Shattenkirk
sign Stralman
buyout Smith
do something with Fast

Panarin Zibanejad Kravtsov
Kreider Hughes Chytil
Vesey Howden Buch
Lemieux Andersson Strome

Skjei Stralman
Staal ADA
Hajek/Lindgren/Pionk

Step in the right direction and year after year we will continue to get better with the improvement of our kids.

I can't wait for you to hate on this.

No way. We have a number of young, cheap, competent options for bottom six. Boyle has never been more than a great 4th line player. You get a player like him for an impending Cup push. You do not overpay to bump decent depth just to have a stopgap. Let the old players move on.

I hear where you're coming from on this. My only sense is that having good vets around to keep the room steady and add some value at the deadline via picks would not be a bad thing. 60 games of Boyle + 2nd rounder for $3.5m basically.

Zibanejad is on his way to becoming one of those players.

I often wonder, if Zibanejad was drafted sixth overall by the Rangers in 2011, and fans were able to attach hopes and dreams to him as a teenager, would there be as much hedging on him?

Whereas we tend to over-project a bunch of guys, and every positive game has people projecting stardom, we’re much more subdued on Zibanejad.

Since this time last year, the dude is essentially a point per game player on a bottom 10 team, at the ages of 24 and 25.

Why would you do something with Fast when you can....keep Fast?

Also, to answer the question, no, because that's still not an NHL defense.

And Mika did most of that playing with plugs half the time. Drai plays with MC David, mackinnon is on the best line in hockey, and Tavares point and pavelski play on elite teams.

Mika is elite. He really is.

Now having said that this next ststment may surprise you.

I don’t think we should go after Panarin. Or Karlsson.

I think management has decided the age group of players that will be the veterans on this team Mika Skjei buchnevich DeAngelo Shesterkin Lemieux Vesey (maybe) Strome (maybe) all currently in the 23 to 25 age group and want to surround those guys with young talent. I think as painful as it will be kreider will be moved. Maybe at the draft to get into the top 15 and take another big time pick and a higher end prospect. I think they’re serious about this rebuild. But I also think they believe they’ve got some really good pieces now that will make them competitive quickly.

By the end of this summer we’ll have most likely drafted 8 first round picks in 3 years. That’s no joke. You start bringing those guys in along with the veteran group here all in their mid 20s and you’ve got a really good base to then add UFA pieces later.

But it shouldn’t be this summer.

Draisaitl is hit or miss. Pavelski is as much of a center as ****ing Lundqvist is at this point.

By their logic, Martin Straka was also a center for the Rangers. Which ruins their previous tweet saying Zibanejad was the fastest Rangers center to hit 25 goals since Mark Messier.

And yes, I enjoy pointing this out after their stats and info account blocked me on Twitter.

They blocked you? Where are they going to steal their info from now?
