Good business to buy a house in Florida. If I were his agent, that's what I'd tell him to do. Make it your legal residence and get paid like Matthews got paid, in signing-bonuses.

His signing bonuses would be taxed in Florida, no matter where he signs.

Things change, but there's nothing to suggest the Rangers are a longshot like you constantly bring up. I'm not saying he's a lock to come here, but a longshot? Not at the moment.

Sure is, especially when a teammate of his is heavily rumored to be going there and there is a team that can blow us out of the water in terms of dollars.

I'm skeptical on just how "in" they are/will be on Panarin anyway. They've hesitated to commit term to guys since trading Stepan away. Even Shattenkirk, who was supposed to be a sure thing to NY only ended up here because they made the years work. Unless that happens with Panarin, I can't see it happening.

Florida was just voted the worst aren environment in the league. That counts for something. I’m not sure how LAK could afford Panarin unless they move a lot of fright. They are already top heavy. The Rangers certainly have a great chance to sign him if they show him the money.

As for Kreider/McAvoy, that’s a feeling on my part but there have been quite a few rumors on that. It makes a lot of sense. It may also require a little sweetener from the Rangers. Both need new contracts but the Bruins get a discounted year on the front end that they can use in a win now environment.

You just contradicted yourself.

So, Bob is rumored to go to FLA... how does that affect Panarin exactly?

but say it does.. how are they going to 'blow us out of the water' when Bob will want around $8-9M? With what caproom? IF anything we can outbid them. Bob going to FLA hurts their chances for Panarin

If it is something NYR have lots of now, it is little sweeteners. Loads of picks in different flavors. D or G prospects aswell.
Would they like a Pionk or half-prized Shattenkirk? Or maybe a Reunanen or Gross? A decent 4. liner in Nieves, or a nice college prospect like Barron?

If nothing like that tempts them I would ask Nashville about Fabbro, Calgary about Andersson and WPG about Trouba.

Nashville already have Subban and Ellis on RD, will Fabbri see them as a block for hium, and opting to stay 1 more year in college to become a UFA?

Calgary has a stacked D, but they can use some more depth up front.

What contract will Trouba want to stay in WPG long term? Would WPG instead opt to take a LD on a long contract like Skjei to stabilize their D when they push for the cup the next years?

Lot of people made a big deal that Panarin signed with Theofanus who’s bobrovsky’s agent so they must be a package deal. What is less talked about is Theofanus and Glen Sather are very close friends. One of Glens best friends in the business. He also reps Kravtsov for a reason.

So the bigger issue running through a lot of this thread is that the Rangers need to add to their defense. I would expect they would seek a top four defenseman in some way shape or form this offseason. Perhaps there is a situation that they can take advantage of with a player contract issue (Trouba, McAvoy) or an younger player on the cusp (a healthy Conor Timmins, Adam Fox, Jake Bean?) Its going to take some currency to make that happen and it may be as stiff a price as Kreider but the Rangers need a top four defenseman sooner rather than later. Adding on defense would push everyone down into a more appropriate spot on the depth chart and provide support for younger defenders. Add a top four defenseman a premium free agent (Hello Artemi) and an infusion of more youth and this thing will look a lot brighter a lot sooner rather than later.

Skjei for Trouba makes a lot of sense for both sides. IF we like Trouba.

Adam Fox hopefully become a College FA next August.

A player like Pietrangelo could become available.

I can’t see anyway Kreider brings back McAvoy unless the + is significant from the Rangers

If Boston balked at the ask when Kreider had a season and a half left, why would they be fine with it in the summer

Also if the Rangers want Panarin, they’ll get him. Anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves.

Shattenkirk was the furthest thing from sure. In fact, Brooks almost made it a habit to say that there was basically no chance of the Rangers going after Shattenkirk based on what his asking price was going to be.

In the case of Panarin, it seems like the team is more willing to pay him what he wants. All I can go off of is what's been reported, but maybe that's not the case in the end.

So aside from my man crush on 20, if you think I’m watching Kreider in a Bruins uni through 2025, forget you. He’s signing, staying, C’ing, and winning here.

The Bruins would get a discount season from Kreider and I assume they would want a long term deal in place. They would never make a trade like this in the middle of the season. The Bruins need a plan to replace McAvoy. I’m not sure they are ready to hand him a long term, big $ contract. They already have $65MM committed to 15 players for next year.

They'll call. Panarin will try to get top dollar, term, protections. Gorton will say "I enjoyed our discussion. Be well." Panarin will call Theo and say "get me Tallon on the phone."

I saw an interview with Zibas brother and agent the other day. Apparently Zibas decision to go with him was based on that the tax reform in the US didn’t anymore allow for the deduction of Agent costs. I would imagine that this means that your agent will be twice as costly.

Look, Miami can probably offer Panarin more money. 10-15% maybe. If that’s his thing, let him go. If he really wants to join that organization, he can be my guest. I think the Rangers are a wonderful opportunity for a player like him. For basically every non-financial reason out there. The team has a young core, a great future, a terrific coach, top drawer fans.
If he wants to be the man to rescue the Panthers, that’s one thing. But if he just wants some more money and beaches, well, just as well the Rangers don’t bother.

1. Deal away Shatty, retain and add if necessary.

Why? We need to start to build a blueline. Both Pionk and ADA will sign new contracts this summer. Shatty is in their way and must be spoon fed top minutes to deliver.

2. Deal away Smith, retain and add if necessary.

Why? Hajak is ready and there is zero space when Smith is here.

3. Trade away Kreider, young player, prospect and 1st.

Why? It’s a hard decsision, but what tilts the scale for me is how he played last night. It was a gritty game, it got personal. Someone like Fast recognizes it and steps up. And you ask yourself — where is Kreider? It was the exact same the last time we where in the POs. I don’t know Kreider, I don’t know what buttons that is unpushed or whatever, but his next deal is going to be very risky and a huge commitment for this organization. Remember the series against the Canadians and Senators and his play last night? You don’t want to make that commitment to that Kreider. The return should be good.

4. Trade away Namestnikov for like cond 2nd and 3rd or whatever.

Why? Names is very talented and still fairly young. But you need to be at an elite level in some many areas to perform in the NHL. Look Names decision making is just not there. Like last night he stole a puck in the neutral zone, went into the attacking zone really well on the right side, turned up against the boards. He lost the D but the backchecking forward put down the stick as he slides past him. Names tried to thread the pass besides the stick but it was broken up. He is on a scoring streak of sorts. Confidence should be high. In that situation he could so easily either just have waited a second to let the back checker slide past him or moved back towards the blueline to get more space. You see 3-4 plays like that a night. It breaks up so much what the game is about in the NHL today. Players must be able to trust each other on the ice. I am sure Names is a great guy, but he is just a dizzy head. Can’t have that.

5. The notion in Calgary is that Curtis Lazar won’t be qualified. If so, sign him as a UFA.

6. To find a 3rd pairing RD with size: Sign Julius Bergman. Bring in some suspects, like a Folin, Petrovic, Sustr. Can we find someone in the Kreider trade? Great. Keep looking until we find someone that fits. Longterm.

Kravtsov-Ziba-Vesey
Lemieux-Lias-Buch
Howden-Chytil-Lazar
Virta-Boo-Fast
Skjei-TDA
Hajak-Pionk
Staal-Bergman
Hank
Geo

I think the above team would get more pts and be closer to a PO spot than the team we had this season.

Carolina will take another stab at signing Fox when his season ends. They can offer to burn a year of ELC by starting his pro-career this season. If Fox still balks, Carolina will know he isn't signing and will probably look to deal him before the draft.

They want scoring and I'm thinking Vesey could get it done. He is putting up goals at a nice rate. Might be enough to get it done.
