3 of those 4 games were at home. With 6 of next 7 on the road, even though 4 of them are against bad teams, we might not do as well.

Right now I'm hoping for 6th place. We need Chicago, Vancouver and Edmonton to pass us. All 4 teams have 17 games remaining and the Rangers are ahead of the other 3 by 2 points. They all have at least 3 more ROW than the Rangers, so we just need to get 2 less points than all of them in the remaining 17 games. I think that's doable.
6th is the best we can hope for at this point. Those games against Vancouver and Edmonton might be the swing games. And your point about the games being on the road is fair, I just don't know how much of a difference that will make considering the opponents.

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right thread. But I was wondering as Jets fan

A) would we have any realistic shot at re-signing Hayes

And

B) how much do you think he would cost?

Hope Lemieux keeps bringing that fire. Afraid we will miss him a bit in the playoffs. Cheers.

7x7 is the general consensus.

I love the "idea" of Lemmy. I'm hoping he carves out that "middle 6" niche.

The next 5 games will be critical to where they finish.

Yeah, the bottom 5 teams are starting to get a bit out of reach. Maybe we go on a nice 3-4 game losing streak (with no points) to fall back there but all those teams at the bottom are really bad. We still have 2 games left v. NJD but looking at their roster and how we've played them, I can't see those being anything but wins. 6 to 9 (nice) seems to be the range we'll fall in based on the gaps.

7 years at $10-11m? What does he do for this team? What does that do for resigning Kreider? How does Panarin make this team a contender next year?
He becomes the teams best player and helps Mika become a star. 40G 90pts potential for Mika with Panarin

Kreider can slot down and help drive the 2nd line with whoever that might be. I've said this multiple times, Kreiders 'raise' is the difference in the Girardi buyout. ( It goes from 3.6 to 1.1 )

The cap will continue to move up. Revenue is trending up. Another team is coming into that revenue pie. A new TV deal is coming in 2021.

Panarin will help us next year and over the next 5-6 years. We're not trying to win the cup next year, we're adding a massive piece to the puzzle though.

Mika is on an extremely friendly deal. Most of the team will be on ELC's or under controlled years. We will have the cap space, might as well use it to the best of our ability.

Shedding Shattenkirk is key. Trading Names. Seeing if there's a market for Smith or Staal but I really feel they will keep Staal.

That's a nice forward group, but doubt Turcotte and Kravtsov can fill those sports next year already.
If we take a look 1 season farther and say we Vesey aswell:

Panarin - Zinbadejad - Buchnevich
Kreider - Turcotte - Kravtsov
Vesey - Andersson - Chytil
Lemiuex - Howden - Gettinger
Fogarty (or some UFA vet).

Turcotte could of course be changed with Dach/Cozens/Newhook.
A nice blend of size, skill and grit.

When looking at the D-group: :help:

Staal - DeAngelo
Skjei - Pionk
Smith - Shattekirk
Lindgren, Hajek, Rykov, Miller, Lundkvist etc waiting for a spot.

Only Skjei and DeAngelo should be playing regularly for a team contending for the cup.
Pionk should have some value as a cost-controlled RD.
For Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk it might come down to riding out the contracts the last year or a possible buyout.
If any possibility for moving 1 of them appears, even with retention, Gorton should jump on it.

D-men are so hard to project, so even getting rid of the ballast, the D might not cut it.

Unless that’s 1992 Darren Turcotte (a name from my childhood), just too much inexperience in there. It’s fun for sim hockey purposes, but that’s not a lineup to go up against men in the NHL. Need more experience and snarl - but I like where you’re going with it.

It's boggles my mind there are 5 to 10 teams worse than the Rangers. And the Rangers are trying to be bad.

If its 1992 Turcotte, we should see if we can get Larmer and Kypreos for him.

Lets play this D corps next season:

Skjei/ADA
Hajek/Pionk
Lindgren/Crawley

Rykov

And a fourth line of Staal/Smith/Shattenkirk

I know, I know what you're saying. "Smith at C??" Well, his natural position is LD but I hear he plays C just as well if not better.

Before anyone screams, this is a total joke. However, I'm glad Quinn found a way to get Smith out of the D rotation. Maybe Staal can play backup G??

Let’s not! Yikes!

Let’s look into trading Brady Minnesota White Bread.

Let’s keep Pionk in Hartford.

ADA, Hajek, Lindgren with Staal and two more vets that replace “ShittDeuces” and B. Smith.

4 teams he's allegedly interested in. NYR, NYI, LAK and FLA. I'm sure a lot of teams will be interested

You say he's going to FLA. That's great. I think he's going to NYR or NYI.
Did you think Kovalchuk was only going to sign here also?

The Rangers could forfeit every single game to focus on bringing back 19th century horseback train robbery on the NYC subway and I would still expect them to look down at the Oilers in the standings.
