Why do they have to be a contender next year if he's getting a 7 year deal? He'd make the team better, that's for sure. He'd make any team better.
I'm not on board, though, for a 7 x 11M, or whatever, deal. Best to let someone else tackle that.
But how much? Drop him on this team and this team is materially not any better than they are now.
Does not make sense for this team. They are FAR from being a "one piece away" contender.
2 years to playoffs, 3 years to competing
1. Transition Hank to Shesty
19-20: Shesty plays majority in AHL, shuttles back and forth, gets more games towards end of year
20-21: splits time with Hank, getting say 30-35 games, trade Georgie
21-22: Hank resigns for 2 yrs at 3 mil, roles reverse
2. Transition Staal, Shatty, Smith to pipeline
19-20: we trade Smith at any point, maybe draft or deadline, retain 1 mil. Shatty gets traded at deadline, we retain 1.5 mil. Hajek/lindy/Raddysh shuttling
20-21: Rykov, Lundqvist come over. Staals last year. LD: Skjei/Staal/Hajek/Lindgren/Rykov, RD: ADA/Pionk/Lundkvist/Keane/Raddysh. Claesson as 7th. Shatty and Smith off books
21-22: Miller leaves school hits the AHL until deadline. Tarmo comes over. Staal done. We consider trading Pionk. LD: Skjei/Miller/Hajek/Lindy/Rykov. RD: ADA/Keane/Lundkvist/Tarmo.
We keep Claesson as 7t in case Rykov/Tarmo go home.
3. Rebuild F depth and quality
19-20: draft forwards. Deadline return from Shatty/Names/Smith/ Vesey . Sign A Lee, resign Krieder, Strome, Fast. Krav shuttles

Of course they are.
Is he a "one piece" guy or is he part of the larger plan guy?
I'm not for signing him but more because of length/term than him not being a fit for the future. Like I said, I think he makes any team in the NHL better that he signs with.
After today, the Rangers have six of their next seven on the road. Time for this team to make its move towards the top.

I will be in Calgary for the Rangers game, so I expect them to win that one and completely ruin all the progress made towards a higher draft pick

Rooting against Shattenkirk returning. I don’t think he’s a liability the way Wade Reddwn has to be buried in Hartford, but I see a pudgy 40-year-old man out there. Get your ass into shape you fat f***. The “From Rye/I was a Rangers fan in 94 story was really cute for about 3 weeks...Yeah he’s certainly ShattDeuces” alright...Being serious, it’s just not a good fit, and I’d much prefer to cut ties before all value is gone. Would he have to be retained at 50%? Okay.

I am watching this game today against the defending champions who are playing hard and we are competing and doing very well. To me I think there current standings in the mid 20"s is the baseline for this team. Selloff mostly done..... gotta go with Mika and a resigned Kreids. The main reason to now move forward is that with Quinn he can get a team to play hard . We need a strong 1RD...EK too Old..maybe Trouba..and the breadman and we can compete for a playoff spot. I do not think standings wise we will finish lower than this year moving forward. Quinn is a good coach!
Another kick at the can? There are 4 players from the 2014 roster on this team. We’ve completely torn down that team. How long is a rebuild supposed to take? Are we abandoning winning completely and going with a couple decades of rebuilding or are we trying to get back to where we were?
Our 3 1sts (if Tampa wins)+ probably gets a conversation started. We’ve rebuilt a prospect pool of guys who project to be good players, but lack someone who can really become a franchise caliber player. I’d be okay selling off a lot of our picks for a player like Hughes.

You can’t blame the team for getting results. Young players are fairly good in today’s game, if we wanted to tank we should have signed someone like Kovalchuk. Over the hill vets.
Thats why they are not finishing lower next year. No way!! Add smart pieces and pay market rates. We lack wingers go for breadman ..skip EK..need a 1RD ASAP!!

3 point in 4 games against 3 really good teams since Zucc and Hayes were benched/traded. And the schedule doesn't get harder in terms of opponent the next few weeks. I don't see us sliding further down the standings if at all.

3 of those 4 games were at home. With 6 of next 7 on the road, even though 4 of them are against bad teams, we might not do as well.
Right now I'm hoping for 6th place. We need Chicago, Vancouver and Edmonton to pass us. All 4 teams have 17 games remaining and the Rangers are ahead of the other 3 by 2 points. They all have at least 3 more ROW than the Rangers, so we just need to get 2 less points than all of them in the remaining 17 games. I think that's doable.
It`s based on a rumor, but some said he asked for 7 mil $ so Jeff Gorton decided to move him at TDL.

Obviously, I don't know him personally, and don't know what is going on in his head. But, based off of my impressions from him on Spittin Chiclets, I'd say he's a guy that wants to be in a bigger city environment. I would guess he doesn't re-sign, but of course, money talks.
I'm guessing he'd want 6-7 years for 7ish per year.
