And what if he resigns and we got a free 2nd rounder that is used to move up and grab this years K’andre Miller?
I specifically said I don't think he re-signs here because he was traded. If he does, great. Win.

Scenario: Rangers win the lottery.
Draft Hughes. Sign Panarin. Reup Kreider. Trade Names. Andersson + for McAvoy.
Kreider - Zbad - Kravstov
Panarin - Hughes - Chytil
Lemieux- Howden - Fast
Vesey - Strome - Boo
Skjei - McAvoy
Hajek - Shattenkirk
Staal - XXXX
Lundqvist
Sheshyorkin (or however its spelt this week)
Realistically don’t see the rangers truly contending for another two years after this one in the best case scenario when our current young guys have developed more and the big contracts of Lundqvist, Staal, Shattenkirk and Smith’s all expire. Even if some of them resign it would likely be at much lower rates than their current contracts, and we just have too much wasted space to contend until then.Agreed. Signing a big UFA isn't totally about next season, it's about 2020-21 and the years after when we will have added even more picks, prospects, and hopefully guys like Andersson, Howden, Chytil, Kravtsov etc become key pieces or useful trade pieces. Add in expiring contracts of Smith, Staal, Shattenkirk, Hank, Namestnikov, Strome and the Rangers will have so much cap space even with a Karlsson/Panarin.

Looking at it that way, signing someone like Panarin (or resigning Kreider) to a huge contract this summer doesn’t make a lot of since as they will be over 30 and exiting his prime when we’re ready to contend. Better to save the space and use it for teams trying to bury contracts for the next couple years then sign guys who become ufa’s or even offer sheet rfas in 2021.
Buchnevich, ADA and Rykov are on the injured reserve?
With all due respect, that’s a terrible trade for Boston. Would you trade a young stud right handed defenseman for a 4th liner making 4 million a year with one year left and a prospect who has a limited ceiling and has struggled this year?Scenario: Rangers win the lottery.

I forgot about Buch, though he has underwhelmed. I could see him moved. Rykov I doubt comes over next season. ADA I added and pushed Shattenkirk down.
They can't afford another buyout. Nor can they afford 50-65 million for Panarin. And he is signing far more than for 5-6 years anyway. What purpose would he suit?
Finding a taker for Shattenkirk is easier types than said.
What they need to do is find room for Hajek & Lingreen. How is signing Stralman going to solve it?
Yeah you can't be successful while doing both. Every team that has won (specifically over the last decade) since the lockout has had their core players in place before going HAM on the FA market, if they really go hard in the market at all. Detroit is really the lone exception but they also had 3 home grown HOF's on their team.
I can see a Skjei for Trouba deal happening if Winnipeg doesn't think they can sign Trouba long term. Trouba just turned 25 in February. Skjei turns 25 in a few weeks. Skjei is signed for 5 more years at a decent cap hit. Cheaper than Trouba will be.
Dont do that to yourselfScenario: Rangers win the lottery.
We talk about Boston all the time, but let’s not forget that the Ducks signed Niedermeyer after having missed the playoffs 4 of the previous 5 seasons (they went to the final the one time they made it... go figure). They had the 2nd most balls in the 2005 draft lottery for a reason. They were terrible. And this was before Perry and Getzlaf were first liners.
Granted, they had Teemu Selanne - Renaissance Man. Still, they signed Niedermeyer before they knew that.
I think it’s best to just assume Henrik will be a Ranger through the end of his contract. It’s just as well, too. He’s helpful for the rebuild and there is no cap worry. Now that Zucc was traded has Lundqvist reconsidered his options?
Perhaps...but he could still a) retire to Sweden or b) decide it’s time to go to a true contender. If he was playing in San Jose or Calgary right now playing, he would have a great chance to win The Cup. He knows that.I think it’s best to just assume Henrik will be a Ranger through the end of his contract. It’s just as well, too. He’s helpful for the rebuild and there is no cap worry.
I wonder if Kreider for McAvoy becomes a conversation piece in the off-season. It wasn’t going to happen before the deadline but both are going to need big contracts this summer. You’ve got to think that something is going to give with Kreider before the draft.
As with Hajek’s very promising debut, it further cements Smith’s buyout this summer.
What is the downside? The Rangers pick up $3MM in cap savings next year and almost a million the following year. The $2 MM hit in years three and four won’t be an issue with so much coming off the cap elsewhere, especially in 21-22. They can use that money in a lot of ways. The guy can’t crack the top 6 on a bad team and guys like Hajek and whomever they obtain this summer on defense needs those spots. They are pretty much locked into burning off Stall’s contract and keeping Shattenkirk long enough for him to rebuild trade value. Take the hit now, move on.Why buy him out and carry his buyout cap hit in the years where we will need the cap space?
I’ve heard Jarmo say he a great team guy and provides excellent leadership. What is Panarin's game besides the scoring? Does he work hard, does he backcheck? Does he have any leadership qualities?

As with Hajek’s very promising debut, it just adds more certainty of Smith’s buyout this summer.
Unless, Shesty comes over and plays more games..I think it’s best to just assume Henrik will be a Ranger through the end of his contract. It’s just as well, too. He’s helpful for the rebuild and there is no cap worry.
