There's also teams with multiple top 3 picks - Florida (13 & 14), Buffalo and Edmonton that haven't won anything and don't appear to be that close to winning anything. You can make the argument for either. Basically three teams won with top picks and a bunch haven't.

Except the common denominator with those teams that differs from the teams who have bottomed out and won is consistently bad management across the board. That's why they haven't won.

Per random ppl on Twitter were asking for McAvoy in a potential Kreider deal..
Apparently McAvoy turned down a long term contract with the Bruins
There’s also his tweet from before he was drafted saying how much he hates the Bruins or something like that
And he’s from NY :naughty:

Point and Kucherov are playing on a team with a 1st overall pick as well as a 2nd overall pick. What do their numbers look like on a team without those players?

Gaudreau on a team with 5 former top 6 picks.

You are proving the point you are trying to disprove.
Kucherov and Point aren't on the same line with Stamkos. TB would not be a top team without Kucherov or Point.

Now we're moving the goal posts? Wasn't it top 3, now it's top 6? or does it NOT matter where they're drafted as long as they produce?

That and their market, and/or financial situation.

They have not won anything yet is what i am saying.

The point made is that tanking doesnt always directly lead to succes. Especially with the lottery system.

But that's a straw man argument. No one is saying that tanking is 100% foolproof. What is being said is that teams that are currently winning, have been bad enough to have top picks now playing for them.

So, two top 2 picks and pristine management and we have the Cup? Where do I sign up?

Pretty much. Not that hard to see. You can have all the top picks in the world, but if you don't have a management that knows how to actually build the team then you're not winning anything. Pretty simple stuff.

Kreider Zibanejad Kucherov
Chytil? Point Kravstov

no top 3 talent but if we had the deep scouting TB had, we'd have a top offense.

I am not understanding why Hayes for 6 years is a bad thing.... The guy is 27... 6 years takes him to 33.

Like I'm actually pissed AF... Lias is hardly an NHL player right now, Gorton wants to be good next year, so we're going to..... trade Hayes...???????

This makes no sense at all, unless the idea is to trade hayes and then sign someone else to a 6 year deal, but as it is right now we will have no #2 center

Lol, so simple. Can't believe no NHL owner has cracked this code. Why even ice a team if you don't have a 1st or 2nd overall pick on the roster? So can a team with great management and no top picks win a Cup?

That's flawed logic as well because the losers of the league pick at the top for a decade.... and still continue to lose.

The difference is, you hit and run at the top of the draft, you cannot stay there indefinitely or else you turn into the black hole. This will be our 2nd year as a lottery team with a top10ish pick. If we trade all of our assets/veterans we will be there a lot longer than those winning teams. At that point we have a far greater chance in becoming those shit team but with top talent.

Pitt is the only team that got out of the suckage because they were gifted Crosby. We had the same chances to get Crosby. Getting lucky isn't a strategy. Purposefully sucking long term is not a viable strategy.
