I would be the best at making up rumors. Would always go "Several reports have NYR completing their first big trade before the deadline tonight but my sources tell me will make a trade tonight but my sources tell me that it is unlikely that all details will be completed tonight on any front, talks will continue tonight and tomorrow and could possible drag on over the weekend all the way to monday, I am told."

Then 00:01 book it.

It's a very difficult slope to navigate in sports. I think people would be surprised by the amount of deals that fall apart despite getting 80 percent of the way there.

Two prime examples include Richter for Jackman in 2002 and Dubinsky for Mueller in 2010. I mean those deals were literally on the one yard line and fell apart.

Could be that Vegas announce that Brännström has been called up, must not necessarily be a trade.

So because you hate it, it's not a valid point? I mean......it's quite obvious that in years that you suck, like this year, we should be doing all we can to finish as low as possible.
Your argument is we need a top overall pick. The only way to get top overall picks is by winning the lottery. That's not a viable strategy. We are sucking this year but what happens when you trade away anyone/everyone of value? you suck long term and get stuck in the suckage.

You mention that all teams who win have top talent and correlate that as the only reason they win. EDM, BUF and COL have top picks and top talent... why aren't they winning?

Carolina and Philly received the #2 picks while being fringe teams. It goes against everything you're saying

Oh YAY. Just got my first 520 error of the pre-deadline season. Trades are in the air. HFboards servers are already shaking in anticipation.

I bet this site goes down again around the deadline hours, just like last year. Time to increase capacity.

What does that mean though? Do you expect professional athletes to "take a dive"? Do you expect the GM to ice 23 AHL scrubs when people are paying hundreds of dollars/seat to watch games?

Doubt anything significant happens today... they probably brought up Lias so they can sit Hayes
eh it's funny timing to have everyone out for the skate and the coach to say "everyone's plying as far as I know" and then sit a guy. Why put your coach out there like that?

I suspect a trade is close even if it doesn't happen today, it'll happen sooner than the deadline

It's kinda hard to argue that everything goes against what I'm saying, when you're arguing we shouldn't tank, yet 90% of teams to win a cup in the last decade have done so with a top 2 pick playing a primary role.

I never said it's a sure thing. In fact, quite the opposite. As with anything, there's a lot of risk involved. You still need to do other things well. Such as wise FA signings, good development of players, good drafting in later rounds, etc.

But the fact remains, the opposite strategy of staying mired in mediocrity and attempting to supplement decent players with FA's or lower draft picks is statistically less likely to lead to a cup.

To be dead honest, I don't care if we blow for 5 years. I don't care if we finish dead last for 5 years. If by year 10 we get a cup, I'm satisfied. I just want one that I can remember.
