Speculation: Roster Building Thread - Part XXVIII

I mean, no offense, I know we can crap on Krav (and some of it is definitely justified), but Barron has done everything this organization has asked as far as going down and proving you deserve a shot and we still choose that black hole mckegg. I don’t understand the way this organization views opportunity and earning it. It has been skewed since day 1 of the rebuild. You reap what you sew.

Laf Goodroow Gaut

2nd line will be a mixed bag defensively. Depends on Panarin choosing to play D tonight. Chytil not forgetting to hockey properly on his own end. Strome will do Strome things and it will just have to be alright.

Blais injury sucks obviously, but im excited for Gauthier to get a real shot in a top 9 role. Put up or shut up time for him because the runway is clear.

If Gaut falters they may give Barron a look, but to me it seems like the Rangers are content to let him (and Jones) lead the way playing top minutes on a good Hartford team. Ive said this before but AHL time is actually a good thing, especially for guys who came out of NCAA Hockey. Barron & Jones are part of the solution here, but there's no reason to rush them.

With Blais out, Chytil doing jack all, and Kravstov holed in a bunker in Siberia, the Rangers have a third line problem.

Barron is next in line. If there's another top9 injury or if Gauthier flops, he's coming up. Gauthier has had impact. Give him a fair shake. He's been dragged around for how long now? This is why players love/trust Gallant... he really gives you a chance.

McKegg is a warm body and will only be used as an emergency backup. He'll get pressboxed most, if not all, games.

as far as Barron goes, if I’m him, I’m starting to get pissed here. He’s done everything asked of him in Hartford. PP/PK, hits, scores, plays great on the boards and solid Defense.
To see a guy like McKegg get the call has got to be demoralizing.
I get they want to keep Morgan as a center, but this is ridiculous.
The only body of work that he could still improve on is his skating, but that could be said for a few current rangers players. There’s not really a difference between working on your skating practicing in the AHL vs practicing your skating with better guys on the big club.
Barron has pretty much be ready for full time NHL service since camp. They sent him down. He didn’t sulk or whine, he just proceeded to rip it up down there night in and night out.
Hopefully this kid can get his chance soon. If Gauthier really starts to struggle of if chytil can’t go, it has to be Barron imo

McKegg will be in the pressbox.

Let Barron stay in Hartford and play top line minutes. There's no rush with him, he will surely be back up this season at some point.

Yo-yo McKegg all you want.


This is the best chance Gauthier is going to get to solidify himself as an NHL player. Let's see if he's up to it.

The way I see it from the outside, Barron can relax as he continues to perform in the AHL as he has a possible and probable future here whereas McKegg doesn't. I would bet management doesn't see McKegg as a "better" player than Barron even now, but instead fills the role that would be needed right now with no pressure.

I didn’t say this year. But Laf should be able to displace him. ck on a 3rd line was the thought this year, and does give a ton of grit w scoring to that line.
