#NYR Thanksgiving practice lines based on jerseys:
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Hunt
Lafreniere-Chytil-Gauthier
Rooney-Goodrow-Reaves (plus McKegg)

didnt GG basically say last night that moving KK off the Strome line didn’t work?

Sure, it feels good to see Laf wrestle down Pageau after the Lindgren hit, but you don't want your top prospect off the ice for five minutes while Reaves is available, albeit glowering from the bench. Taking Laf off the ice for Pageau is a net gain for the Islanders. Bad strategy.

Let the fighter fight. If he's reluctant, maybe he needs a reminder of why he's here.

the fight was with under 2 mins left in the 3rd, up 4-1.

isles really showed us there taking Laf off. It all turned from there.

is Lindgren skating?

Pageau was not going to fight Reaves, and honestly, looking at him after they pulled Laf off of him and he got to his skates he looked totally embarrassed. Getting bullied by a non fighter high skill kid who is barely out of his teens is much more humiliating than getting smacked around by a HW like Reaves. I’d say Laf taking care of it was FAR more effective. Just my take.

Except it was late in the game
Except we had a big lead
Except Isles had last change
Except Reeves was on the bench.

Laf was supposedly known for having a bit of an edge in juniors. It was good to see a little of that in the game. He wasn't needed for the last few minutes. It's nice to know some of the skill guys can defend themselves and stick up for teammates. I liked Fox jumping that chump too. They're becoming a team. Reeves gives them all a little more backbone.

Ok, great Kakko with Zibs line improved them. What happens to the Panarin line? They looked bad last night.

I really do not like Hunt with Panarin. Watching Panarin gain entry and wait for a player and that player being Hunt, doesn't jive with me.

We really need to acquire a middle6 RW. Preferably one that can skate and shoot. Chytil would be perfect for them. Then call up Barron.

they will have to make a trade . First time in a long time NYR will be buyers at the deadline

I think it should be way before the deadline.

We can't go longterm with Gauthier and Hunt. Let a guy come in and grow with the team.

R.Smith makes a lot of sense but VGK are dealing with too many injuries to trade him right now.

TBH I'd prefer a guy with another year on the contract, where the team we trade with can perhaps eat some salary. Get some great value for a guy that will be a stopgap until players like Berard. Cuylle, Pajuniemi or Othmann are ready.

Hagel, Labanc, Silfverberg, etc. Missed the boat on Tarasenko

If we're going to spend assets, it should be for an under-30 top-six C like Horvat or Domi, assuming that we can carve out room to keep them past this season. No sense in spending for rentals this season.

The way to carve it would be to get serious salary retention in a potential deal.

That will make the price very painful, but it's the only way we fit a 2C on this roster.

In 2014 we traded Moore, 2nd, 1st, Duclair for Keith Yandle with 50% retained for a season and a half.
That's roughly 2 1st and 2 2nd round assets.

Side note, how would everyone feel here about trading Reunanen for Tkachev?

Bo Horvat potentially available

I could definitely see it. There’s been rumblings of a big Canucks move soon. There were also rumors that we called about Horvat this offseason

Lundkvist+1st+Othmann

Keep Strome and just move him to RW until his contract plays out. Bread-Bo-and Butter has a nice ring to it. Kill two birds with one stone by getting a long term 2C, and a rental winger. Strome replaces the hole that Blais left for the time being while also “teaching” Bo how to play with Panarin. Strome will be fine on wing as well and will loosen his defensive responsibilities. Had 50 points his rookie season on wing

-Horvat is a captain right now, could be our next one
-11 goals and 16 points in 23 playoff games
-Shoot first mentality
-Solid defensively
-Best part? He has a 58.6% faceoff percentage right now. He’s never finished a season under 53% on draws.

He would be the perfect 2C. Canucks are currently 6-12-2

Call Jones up for 3RD

*Apparently Benning hasn’t returned any calls per Dreger

Would really rather keep the powder dry for a 1B guy like Pettersson.

I’m not convinced that Kravtsov won’t be back.

In the summer of 2024, Trouba changes to a NTC, and Lindgren either gets traded or extended.

That'll be when the money opens up. Before then, any acquisition at center either needs to be young, or come with significant retention.

Yes yes yes yes. Get this guy. I’d add to have them retain.

This is the way it’s going to have to be done if we’re smart. We have a ton of D prospects. Guys like Chytil where decisions need to be made. Malcontent Kravtsov. I’m fine with Goodrow/Barron as the 3C going forward. I don’t see Chytil as the solution to our 2C problem. Make an attractive package for a top six RW with term and overpay in prospects to get retention. Adding a 5-6M winger for 2 years at 2.5-3M would be a coup and it’s the only way we’re going to afford any semblance of a 2C.

I’d bring Jones and Schneider up to the roster next year. I’d rather have LH Jones and RH Schneider than RH Lundkvist. I’d move Nemeth because his salary is too much for a 6/7 when we’re strapped for cap.

I’d have Strome, Chytil, Kravstov, Lundkvist, Robertson, Georgiev, 1st round pick, etc. all on the table for a top six RW with retention and/or a 2C. Horvat, if available is a great, great target since he has another year on his deal before we’d have to figure out how to fit his salary.

Still think tarasenko may be a real target for this team with how he is playing and the limited term he has on his contract. He and kakko give you two legit top 6 rws, and I love getting players that are at the end of their current contracts bc they usually push it to make sure they cash in on their next deal. If kakko is going to possibly stay w zib than tank becomes a shoot first highly skilled rw that will hound the puck and compliment panarin and strome. He is so a left shot which is huge for that line. Kakko hasnt trusted his shot which conflicts w two pass first players. Tank is a shooter and would thrive there

I think we missed the ship. Blues writers have been speculating whether he still wants a trade and obv the ask has gone up a lot since he’s maintained his offensive clip.

I agree with you, I think a lot of teams feel that way. I added to the original post with some additional comments. I'm sure there would be a significant cost associated with it, but he's the type of player and it's the type of move that really could solidify this forward group. Blues beat writer was on with marek about 2 weeks ago And it sounded like the trade request still exists, but that tank is kind of embraced the fact that nobody wanted him and he needed to make a market for himself.

Kravstov + 2022 1st for Horvat at 50% (or someone similar) would be a deal that I would pony up for that I could see the other team legitimately considering

Krav, Lundqvist, Nemeth, STL 2nd for Tank and Bortuzzo. Georgiev for a pick. Hajek for a pick. Call up Jones. Call up Kinkaid. A Thanksgiving Day fantasy.
