it would have been joseph, and that is a kid that has a chance to blossom in the next couple years with an expanding role.
Possibly. Whoever they would have picked, I think it would have made no sense to trade Gourde before the expansion draft.

Guys like McKegg and Brod and other AHL/NHL tweeners get called up, much to the chagrin of the majority of the fanbase, is cause the "good soldier" mentality. If those guys never get called up to get a few days or weeks of NHL pay then it will get harder to sign those players that help a lot with creating a structured, winning atmosphere in the minors for other young players in the system.

I don't know if it's the right thing or not, but I do know that having a good AHL team helps create a system of good players filling in on the NHL team turning the franchise into a perennial contender. Losing all the time, at any level, doesn't help anyone.

oh for sure. other teams wanted gourde but they took the calculated risk that seattle would pick him and it would help their cap situation without losing anyone else. basically anyone seattle took would help their cap problems, and if they took a nobody from tampa that didnt help their cap issues than they could have easily traded gourde this summer to open the cap space. it was a smart move by tbl to avoid the panther's like mistakes of moving multiple players from the vegas expansion. lose your one guy and move on.

loser mentality at any level is not good. that is why i was okay with trying to win while rebuilding. teams that just straight up tear it down and aim to lose often get into a cycle and mindframe of acceptance for losing and it is very difficult to break that complacence.

A player I would be interested in is Luke Kunin in Nashville. He is an rfa this summer, can play a physical game, has an offensive touch (can be a 40-45pt player) if/when he has been given a role with other productive players. He is currently on the second year of a 2 year 2.3mil per contract. He will be 24 years old next month. He plays center and wing so he has some versatility. I would really like to see him come to nyr.

RFA. Not going to happen. Would also be weird for two teams to give up on him. Nashville is rebuilding so you would think if Kunin is any good they’d hang onto him. Don’t think he is the one.

When Kunin was rumored i hoped NYR would have some interest. He has some potential. Good former 1st round pick

I wonder if Nashiville would move him to help change their mix. That was the feeling I got from Poile when you heard him talk before the season. As an rfa I look at him as a guy that has not yet earned that big paycheck so he wouldnt necessarily break the bank. I also dont look at him as a guy that Nashville would be giving up on, just possibly something to make a hockey trade around.

Listening to marek and a Seattle reporter was on just crushing the team and commenting how ownership isn't happy bc they have a window right now to grab ahold of the city's attention and they just haven't been good. He made it sound like only a handful of players have competed regularly and specifically named tanev and gourde as the two guys that bring it every game and that embody what the organization wants the team to be. That very much says that gourde is not attainable folks. Time to move on...
They hired the wrong coach.

Id rather move kakko up.
Put hunt on the second.
I would have agreed 2 weeks ago but Kakko is finally starting to produce and this isn't the time to mess with any developing confidence. Leave him where he is and if he is still rolling in two weeks then you can move him.

I thought Francis was pretty timid through the team building process but still ended up with a workable roster. Anyone who had any insight on Hakstol would/should have told him to stay 1000 feet away. His Philadelphia run was a dumpster fire.
When I heard Francis I was hopeful. When I heard Hakstol I was shocked. He seemed so overwhelmed in phili but I guess he has a relationship with Francis that helped him land the job. I think Francis just did not play the ED well and he has been underwhelming in both jobs...
