Not the prettiest, but it's a big win! Great night with the Oilers and Canucks losing as well!

Well I'm certainly glad we won, but we were too loose and careless with the puck, even in the last 5 minutes after Hanley's sweet shot.
Oh well, a bit of rust, but it's a win. Time to hit the road for these guys.
In the 2 days so far coming back from the break, 50% of games have seen a team pot 5+, including 3 games with 7+. 25% of games had 9+ total goals. It’s crazy at this level of hockey what even the slightest break does to players timings, think any loose play could be easily attributed to that.

Happy we got the dub. Need to go 2-2-2 on this trip at min. And that's a tall ask.

The Caps just outscored their opponents 15-6 in their first two games back. There’s no way in hell the Flames would get away with playing all loosey goosey like they did tonight, or the Caps will make ‘em pay. But we’ve played them pretty tough earlier this season, let’s chalk this one up to rust and hope we get Bahl back by Tuesday. It would be huge for the confidence to start this trip by pulling out a dub vs. Wash

Flames got the win but I hesitate to celebrate. The Flames struggled to beat the worst team in the league. Not sure why anyone is cheering for them to squeeze into the playoffs. Way too many delusional people riding that bandwagon.

We can either sit here and be frustrated that the team is over-performing expectations this season, or can enjoy the ride and see if we can go on a Cinderella run with our potential franchise goalie putting together a Calder-worthy rookie season.

I don’t get why anyone would not be cheering for wins at this point. I get being on team rebuild, but when the team is playing decently well and is one point out of a playoff spot it’s just incredibly pessimistic to not cheer for victories. Whether we pick 11th or 17th really won’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, may as well just enjoy it instead of continuous pessimism.

Especially in this coming draft. There are still decent players ranked in the 20-30 range, so we might as well roll with it.

Because we are fans of the Flames, you know the group of people that CHEER for said team to win.

We definitely are in a weird spot where finishing in the playoffs would be a nice surprise and hopefully a good footing so that this team continues to progress and make the right moves going forward. On the flip side, it'd also suck losing the 11th pick at the draft; where we're sitting on two additional picks in the late 20's and could maybe trade up to get the guy the team wants (if there's someone in the 5/6/7 range they like).

It is what it is, enjoy the ride, have fun.

Gentle reminder to everyone on this board, because we lived through it a decade ago as well: no one is more or less of a fan for what they want from this team. No one here is in a position to challenge that, we're all just in it for what's best for the clubs whether folks like it or not. If folks want loses and rebuilds, that's perfectly reasonable, if folks want to chase a playoff spot, it's also perfectly reasonable.

Against the bottom of the league Sharks is a little out of hand.

If Zary returns to centre soon, I like this team’s chances to take the last playoff spot. If they’re going to leave him with Backlund-Coleman, might as well throw in the towel

1000% this. Cheer how you want.

I think the ignore feature is up and running since the upgrade broke everything, feel free to use it as necessary if you can't let others be.

I feel a whole lot better after Winnipeg had an even harder time facing the Sharks on a back-to-back the next night.

But to your broader question, I can genuinely answer that.

Playoff hockey is fun. Being part of the playoff picture is fun. Teams probably will go 50 years between Cup championships regularly now in this size of league, so I firmly believe that we have to take advantage of anything the team gives us to cheer about or the experience as a fan will always be more misery than happiness (and why would you volunteer for that?).

Taking away all of the pressure and anxiety when you drop to the bottom of the standings and no longer caring about wins and losses, as I remember from ~2013-14, can also be a lot of fun, but at the same time it introduces new pressure and anxiety: as long as your team is getting blown out on a regular basis and has a hard time ever winning, there is absolutely no firm timeline for that to suddenly change.

We have seen a great deal of examples of late of how it is much easier for a bubble team to reshuffle and elevate themselves into a very good team in short order than it is for a team that has finished in last place to get back to even being in the playoffs. So while some people still firmly believe that if you don't finish in last you can't ever finish in first, I think this more comes from a desire to have that league-wide superstar to cheer for than it does from the perspective of wanting team success.
