Making Fox captain is a great way to make sure he starts shitting the bed too. Lets not put a letter on a young player that actually plays well. Captain should have been Kreider or Trouba. 2 As. None of this everybody gets a letter crap. Just cause you have been here doesn't make you a leader.

Also, I get that it is the cool, I don't care I can motivate myself, approach to say teams don't need captains and that these players are grown men and can "figure it out themselves", but I have to disagree. Captains are important. People like and respect a competent leader. Whether that's at work, on a hockey team, for a project, for the country, etc.. Being able to go to someone that is there to help and has not only your hockey livelihood in mind, but your well being as a person, makes the team a more cohesive unit. Like a family.

In conclusion, trade Strome, name a captain, remove the As from everybody. It looks like a shitty peewee team at the moment.

Lindgren leads by example game in and game out. It’s breathtaking that out of the 579 A’s they handed out this season, he wasn’t one of them.

They’re and old team. Could take them a long time to rebound even after they return home. Don’t like sending out negative vibes but for them I have no qualms.
They play the trap and that style of hockey almost killed the game in the mid to late 90’s and I would hate for them to succeed and have other teams change to that strategy.

I agree. I don't think Fox has the "Rah-Rah" personality that this team needs as a leader. Fox is the type of guy who leads with his play on the ice and should absolutely be given an A, but we need a bigger "personality" for Captain of this lackadaisical bunch.

I still think we’re better served running
Zibby-Chytil-Barron-Rooney down the middle for the rest of the season.
Barron gives us a different look style wise, plus adds size, good shot, more physical, etc
This also takes Panarins bestie away and lets us get a long look at chytil before deciding to keep him or cut bait and trade for an upgrade.
We’d be much better off in the long run here.... our team D from our Fwds can’t really get much worse

Agree...sink or swim with Chytil . We need to know what we have there . I would also entertain Laf and Gauthier as wingers and give both guys a full time shot/minutes needed to perform . Then I would go Panarin-Zibs-KK and Kreider-Goodrow-Blais allowing Barron to cook until the New Year in the AHL and a fourth line of bangers in Hunt-Rooney-Reaves and I likely forgot somebody....rough day as I had to put my 15yr old baby girl /Blue Heeler Puppy Mattie down this morning . I think we will be OK once they all buy into the program . I would consider the C for Reaves right away though albeit a short term thing .

He wont be worth the cost. He'd be a perfect fit if we were going for a cup run. A little pre-mature but you never know. If he costs a Hajek + , sure. If he costs top assets, no.

A guy you consider for a Cup run....I really don't see that this season....but crazier stuff has happened in the last 2-3 years . For example , all it takes is for a contender to lose a player or so to Covid like the Sens are into now with 11 guys out . The East can be won with some luck and goaltending and a couple of key additions .

Laf has that personality and also more of an edge, but his performance isn’t there yet and he doesn’t need any added pressure. If I were coach I’d give Reaves the C for this & next season, and hopefully Laf is ready to take it after that

I still think the play is to some how get Dorofeyev out of VGK. Might not be the 2c but kid is doing well in his first AHL season and could eventually C Panarin & Kakko IMO. Not sure what a fair deal would be something like Strome 50%+, for Smith & Doro. That or Dado, pick & Doro for scraps to help their cap room when Eichel is close to returning.

I think the only thing that matters about it is that the organization made it such a big deal and then bailed at the last moment. Nobody asked them whether they wanted/needed a captain, Drury came out and said it.

It's a very easy thing to look at, though, as a fan and say 'this team has no real leader'

Whether that's true or not, who knows, but I think that's part of the reason people are harping on it.

Callahan, McDonagh, Leetch, Drury got plenty of flak for their leadership as captains. Missing that, the intuitive next thing to blame is the lack of someone to blame.

As for the 2C argument... if Panarin can find a winger like Strome that works with him, there's no reason why Goodrow can't be the high man. It's the grinder role just from a different position.

Panarin-Goodrow-Kravtsov or Panarin-Goodrow-Kakko are possibilities. This shouldn't be offensive to anyone because Goodrow won't be playing that much more at even strength than he is now, and certainly won't be out there on the top PP unit. That Strome replacement will fall to someone else- be if Lak, Kakko, or maybe Kravtsov.

All that means is that your third line center should be someone who can score a little bit for his own line, of which Chytil and Barron remain solid candidates.

Insofar as the top 3 lines are relatively balanced I don't see why it's an issue.
