He's out of his element.
Unfortunately it appears I am the only one with a solid understanding of the situation at present amidst all the jargon and hoo-ha.

1) Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire and then the Soviet Union
2) Ukraine became an independent nation upon the breakup of the Soviet Union
3) Fast forward, and Russia decides to invade Ukraine and re-claim some of its former territory, for whatever reasons they had or no reason at all
4) U.S. aid stalls and then is eventually delivered
5) Russia makes quick advances into the Donbas region and then is stalled
6) Ukraine attempts a big counter-offensive to push Russians out, it largely goes nowhere
7) Time keeps ticking away, Russia makes some small incremental gains here and there, but largely the parties remain at the same point for almost three years
8) Passportization and integration into Russia occurs in the occupied regions. Many of the loyalists flee the region, many sympathetic to Russia remain, some new Russian settlers also move in due to cheap land.
9) Time goes by, billions continue to be spent on war effort to prevent Russia from making further gains.

And now we are here, in 2025. Largely just waiting around for something to happen.

U.S. can escalate and a full-fledged NATO army can be sent to kick the Russians out of the Donbas region, maybe even march into Moscow. But nobody necessarily wants to do this because Russia is a nuclear power and the cost in resources and lives would likely be too great.

U.S. could withdraw all aid and leave Ukraine to its own devices. But this isn't a good option either because it very likely means Russia captures Kiev, Ukraine falls as a country and then Russia/China see carte blanche to invade whomever and take over anyone, to the detriment of western interests.

Or some sort of peace deal is negotiated where Kiev is kept, Zelensky can go back to his people and claim to be the hero for saving the country, Putin can go back to his people and claim that the war effort wasn't all for naught because they came away with territory gains in the Donbas regions,.

People are under the impression that the only thing that ever happened in human history is world war II and you can't make any sort of deal with Putin because that's literally Hitler, but that's nonsense. This war effort has been expensive and cost many Russian lives. Putin is getting older and Russia does not have the will to do more invading. World History is quite literally filled with examples of wars, territory changing hands, rinse, rise and repeat. The true ignorance is thinking we've somehow evolved to a point where this isn't a reality.

The United States can play global cop to some extent because it protects American interests, but the American people voted for an agenda where there is not going to be an endless supply of cash and military aid to fund war efforts on the other side of the planet.

I think if they give everything another month or two the war will be over. And if that’s the case, there’s absolutely no argument to not have Russia back. Why’d the IIHF have to make such early decisions for next season? We could have greatly benefited from Russia’s presence at all the junior events.
I wonder if the decision could be reviewed if such an event occurs ?

Probably just individual athletes for now

The USA is taking the role of negotiating peace so the war can end. Not “supporting Russia against Ukraine”. You make it seem like the U.S. will be sending military aid to Russia to storm into Kiev.
Since taking office, he has literally called Zelensky a dictator and at one point recently said Ukraine started the war. He had talks to end the war in Saudi Arabia WITH Russia and WITHOUT Ukraine. The US position has just about done a 180 when it comes to that conflict. You have obviously not been paying attention to your governments recent moves, or are in denial.

He's also threatened to annex Canada.

It's easy to not be evil. But lots of folks on here justifying evil.

the USA shouldn’t be allowed considering they’re allowing a genocide to occur.
Actively aiding it even and now suggesting to fully displace the population and annex it for a luxury destination (along with Canada and Greenland), to a far greater degree than say Belarus is doing for Russia. Russia can keep their invasion going without Belarus if they want, the other one can't continue without America.

I don't buy the sudden reluctance by America to fund wars in other countries, it's almost a national past time.

So it begs the question. So now that America is enabling Putin, will the European Federations also ban their US-based NHLers from their national teams?
