Sorry, but you think it's more plausible to optimistically assume that every scenario you suggested will play out perfectly? Because that it was basically has to happen to contend next year.

Now you are adding, yet again, another scenario which you can add to my previous list. To fix the D, we need 2-3 good D-Men. You're assuming that one or more of our prospects will make the jump right in and be successful. Seems highly unlikley. Moreover, sans EK, you have still not suggested who can handle top line minutes. Because we have no one ready to take that mantle and it seems rather crucial to have a solid first pairing to compete and that's assuming all your other rather implausible scenarios pan out.
I understand the pessimistic viewpoints here, that likely nothing will seemingly work in our favor.

I am not sitting here expecting every scenario to be successful. But I am also not going to sit here and think well JG and company are not going to address the Defense in some capacity to help improve it or that none of our Defense Prospects will be promoted based on merit and be successful.

They are absolutely “what if” scenarios but so is everything when you build a team for next season. Does that mean we should do nothing? That nothing could happen? The team cant improve? Prospects cant make the jump? Did anyone see the Islanders take the next steps forward this year? Especially with Tavares leaving? They had players step up and their game improved. Their defense got a lot better. Good goaltending. Our defense cant improve?

Too much negativity.

There isn't. The only way there would be a pick involved is if another team game him an offersheet above $1.4 million or something.

There are also compensatory picks if you make a bonafide offer to a player you selected in the 1st round and they don't sign. This rule was originally meant to cover players who refused to sign, but they expanded the scope after Cherepanov died to encompass any player that doesn't sign, for whatever reason.

That could be, yet just about every player says the same thing, yet when it comes to negotiating a new contract it's business just as it is for the organization when they say they like/love this or that player, and then offer them less than they know it will take.

I don't really see that as the player or the organization trying to extract every penny, just both factions looking out for their best interests.

I think 7x7 is fair for both sides. I'd offer that to him on July 1st. If he says no thanks, they will have plenty of time to trade him between the summer and the next trade deadline and I don't think they'll have any trouble getting a 1st and an A prospect for him.

Yep, but that obviously wouldn't apply to Jaskin.

Yep and MSG hasn't adjusted at all.

Prices are still ridiculously high considering the product they're putting out there. It's one thing you want to keep raising prices every season (when you're already one of the most expensive in the league) when the team is contending, but when they're sellers and missing the playoffs for a second straight season, it would be nice to have some sales or something.

They had sales earlier in the year. Groupon Tickets

They're going to have to do it again after the deadline

hayes and boston makes too much sense.

boston is a team that thinks they can with now. you add hayes to that top 9 forward group and they will do some damage. bergeron krejci and hayes. yeesh thats pretty good.

the return for hayes should be a top prospect and a pick.

boston has many quality prospects to deal.

And also for players claimed in an expansion draft, yes? I’m not sure why I thought also for arb hearings.

RIP in Pieces, Webby.

It's coming. You're going.

Thank the f***ing lord. How is this guy allowed to post here?

I know this will be unpopular....

IF we resign Hayes, I'd go after Laine and use Chytil or Andersson packaged with Pionk and/or Buch. Re-sign Zucc in the offseason.

Kreider Zibs Zucc
Kravtsov Hayes Laine

An actual top6
This org cant have Laine because fans put him on the 2nd line. Half joking here, doubt Chevy bites on Andersson+ he would 100% ask for Krava or Miller

Does that mean we should do nothing?

Avoiding a guy like Panarin doesn't mean we're not doing nothing. Same applies with Hayes. And Zucc.

Moving them for future assets is doing something. You're not going to see the team benefit immediately, but nobody should be expecting that 1 year into our rebuild.
