I understand the defense is a mess. But everyone is talking as if nothing at all will be done to address it, as if not one or even more of our prospects will make the jump in there progress to help it. Lindgren, Hajek, Rykov, Tarmo, etc. These are the guys that can be here next year possibly. Miller, Lundkvist, Gross are all 2-3 years out.

Plus you dont know who you might acquire over the next week.

Sorry I cant predict the future like many of you seem to be able to..

You just gave us a laundry list of what if's....

The more what ifs you have, the less likely it is that things are going to go your way.

Have we learned nothing from the Wild?

I'm not sure this is true. If you trade him at the deadline this year, that first will definitely be late. If you trade him at the start of next season, who knows where the team that traded for him ends up.

Usually teams trading those picks are going to have them protected in some manner, like if said 2020 pick falls top 10, the pick gets pushed off to the next draft. (which may not be a bad thing yet another year waiting on it)

Trading him for a known pick at the draft in 2019, maybe, yet again, which pick are they going to get for a one year left Kreider?

Like Stepan with 4 years term left, plus Raanta 1 year left, returned the 7th pick and ADA, yet had that draft had 7 prospects in it who were considered by Arizona to be near top tier, I'm not so sure that deal even goes down.

No one is predicting the future. However, the scenario's you are throwing out have too much uncertainty.

Sorry, but you think it's more plausible to optimistically assume that every scenario you suggested will play out perfectly? Because that it was basically has to happen to contend next year.

Now you are adding, yet again, another scenario which you can add to my previous list. To fix the D, we need 2-3 good D-Men. You're assuming that one or more of our prospects will make the jump right in and be successful. Seems highly unlikley. Moreover, sans EK, you have still not suggested who can handle top line minutes. Because we have no one ready to take that mantle and it seems rather crucial to have a solid first pairing to compete and that's assuming all your other rather implausible scenarios pan out.

I'm sorry, are we watching different games? We either have Smith taking shifts on the 4th line, which has become rather common, or we don't even have a guy playing in that spot. Either way, not a good thing for anyone.

He played defense last night.

They can easily call up a guy to be a warm body if need be.

It's not necessary to pick up Jaskin.

I believe that even if the Rangers claim Jaskin, they no longer go to the bottom of the pile which, to me, means snagging Jaskin would be a good move as there is no negative to doing so. He'd be an improvement for the 4th line and cheap depth for the rest of the season

I would think that between now and the draft, Gorton would have had conversations with his agent to gauge what he was looking for. Unless that's considered tampering or whatever.

OK, well warm bodies would still be a plus, right? I'd say we should expect them to move out 3.15 forwards in the next week, with little pushing it's way up from Hartford.

They don't need anything great from Hartford.

The Fogarty's, Letteri's and whomevers should be good enough.

Who is the .15 btw?

So because he played D last night - everything is back to normal? I just don't understand this notion.

Moreover, assuming the proper thing is done and we move Hayes, Zucc (and hopefully other guys like Vesey, Fast, Names, etc), we are going to need guys to fill roles.

I have no interest in bringing prospects into the cesspool that is to be the end of our season. I guess Letteri and Fogarty are fine, but I'm still really hoping we have something like 5 open positions.

Jaskin is a better player than what he get credit for, problem is that he isn't an energy checker and there aren't a ton of spots open on scoring lines.

If Kreider went down or we traded him or something, I think Jaskin could be a really good option next to Ziba and Zucc. He can play with the puck, sees the ice well, big and creates a lot of open ice and so forth. But I don't think he is a great fit next to Boo Nieves...

I'm sure they will talk, if they have not already, yet I'm not sure what kind of answer the Rangers are going to be looking for.

To put it this way, if I were Kreider I am looking at this next contract as the biggest I'm ever going to get. It's likely to be long term and I don't want to be traded to somewhere I do not want to go for that term so I am also demanding a clause. I'm not sure I am signing anything until I at least see what happens this UFA season to better gauge what I could get as a UFA next UFA season.

Unless the Rangers are offering something with a really restrictive clause, which also meets about what I'd think I'd get on the UFA market, two markets from now I'm probably not signing it.

woah what? dudes JAG

Woah because it likely signals a bigger move coming down the pike.

Jaskin is a pretty useful bottom line player. He will be good for Quinn and he is actually NHL caliber. He has hands of stone, but he works hard every shift and is a useful 4th line guy to have. I think people here would like him.

He's also only 25 and cost controlled. He could be a decent asset to take a flyer on. Similar to Strome but much cheaper.

They may not want to turn Hartford into a complete dumpster fire by taking all their best players At the end of the day, it will make very little difference, but I expect them that they will look hard at the waiver wire in the upcoming week.

3.15 just means I expect them to move Zuccarello, Hayes and somewhere between 1-2 more forwards. Thinking about it, I think it should be 2.85.

Fair enough, though the situation down in Hartford isn't much better.

At this rate JG's going to hold everyone and this will be a moot point.
