The prescient move was trading DeAngelo before last season. It's reported that Gorton tried, but how hard did he try? Maybe package him up with another player for a center or center prospect? Meaningless to really talk about it more at this point.
I believe @Edge stated many times that they tried very hard to trade both DeAngelo and Strome but both of them were not as highly regarded around the league as they were on here.

Our current 2C problem actually somehow stems from return in the Stepan trade. Lias was a reach C pick that busted and Tony was a high risk/high reward pick that turned out to be worth nothing of value to be used to acquire any assets (that he once likely had). We otoh got Strome for a discount in dumping Spooner out West. And here we are…

very accurate.

if lias Andersson was who we all hoped he’d be we’d have a gritty two way center in the middle that plays with a chip on his shoulder might be wearing a letter defends well and scores the dirty goals around the middle of the ice. It’s literally exactly what we need in the middle behind Mika

instead we got a headcase who couldn’t skate or play at this level whatsoever

Am I the only one that thinks that the other option in that same draft can become that in Chytil? 21 years young, already shows immense potential and with the right continued development, can easily fit in as an offensive driving 2C.

Necas wouldve been a nice pick there.

One thing regarding the 2C for this team, with Drury in charge now and Gallant as the HC, maybe someone like Barron will be tried at center. With Drury at the helm in Hartford, he did get some time there. I think they know what he brings to the table as a winger. Hopefully they will let him roll in camp at center and maybe even get into a game where he is centering Kakko or Lafreniere to see how well they play together.

If Barron is a part of the future of the team, giving him a chance with those two is paramount to determining if he is a center or a winger. His style of play would add something different down the middle.

Barron is the type of player that we did think Lias Andersson would be like. He isn't the best skater, but he'll hit, work hard, and chip in goals in front, and play a 200ft game. Translating that to center over being a winger for this team would be huge.3

One thing with the lines being more static over the past two seasons is that we have not gotten to see if our young options down the middle can play up. Chytil needs preseason time with Panarin. We know what he and Strome can do, let's find out if Chytil, now not a rookie or inexperienced, can roll with a player like Panarin and increase this teams overall depth.

I’d much rather have Chara than Thornton as a “locker room” guy. I can’t understand how teams that aim to contend keep bringing in Thornton like he’s going to help.
Unless there’s some stat that correlates beards and smugness with playoff success.

i’d pass on both. Again, i think both those players are looking for a Cup and on borrowed time. I don’t see either a fit for the Rangers.

I see alot of 'teamates fight all the time!'. Sure punches back and forth (which Geo threw). But how often does one of them choke the other, which is what TDA supposedly did after Geo threw a punch at him? I doubt he would have let up until Geo passed out until teammates intervened. Just a friendly choking, sure, nothing to see here.

Did you mean major domo? Cool word:
Majordomo - Wikipedia

A majordomo is a person who speaks, makes arrangements, or takes charge for another. Typically, this is the highest (major) person of a household (domūs or domicile) staff, a head servant who acts on behalf of the owner of a large or significant residence.
A majordomo may also, more informally, be someone who oversees the day-to-day responsibilities of a business enterprise.

But what does "appease the administration and AD"? Only meaning I heard of is Art director?
AD= Athletic Director, one of the top guys in College Sports who answers to the top brass at the college.

We're slowly piecing together his post lmao

I know I'm the resident DeAngelo fanboy but I wouldn't necessarily say Fox runs the PP better. DeAngelo was phenomenal on the PP, I remember in 19-20 when DeAngelo got hurt our PP fell off a cliff without him.
Might be a bit dramatic for two games.

I wasn't being cryptic lol. And I've mentioned how I was a high major DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS (DOBO) many times. It's why I have a great insight into how teams actually function both operationally and in the locker room.

Gorton said he didn't like the contract stuff and dealing with lawyers. He could have hired his own Ryan Martin to handle the CBA stuff. He could hired a player agent to deal with those issues. He said Tony is a good guy. Tony has burned every bridge. It ended badly in every stop for him. Phoenix might be only stop which didn't have controversy. That we know of. Gorton was his own worst enemy. He is roaming the halls of the Rangers offices asking if anyone wants to talk hockey. He decided to be the Rangers cap guy and he acquired Tony. That's on him.

If he burned so many bridges then why did Carolina sign him? Jesper Fast and Brady Skjei were already on the team and knew him. You'd think if Carolina was interested in a controversial player they would do their diligence and talk to players on the team that already know him. Then why did Brendan Smith sign already knowing he was there? Doesn't seem like too many players had issues with him. Besides, from what we've been told Georgiev is the one in the locker room that doesn't seem to get along with more people.

I was wondering where your great insight originated from.
Appreciate it bro. This board is an awesome assemblage of passionate fans and unique perspectives. As for me, it was a long road to get to that position. As Seinfeld would say, they tend to give those jobs to ex-ballplayers.
