I think this is a dumb argument so I don't know what you're getting at. One of the few things I agree with you on is needing to upgrade Strome with someone who provides more than not dragging Panarin down.

...But they clicked pretty much right away, they didn't need time to develop rapport.
Mika and panarin also clicked right away.

Lmaooo this is photoshopped. And whoever did it is horrible at it haha. Look at his left arm compared to right arm. Same with his legs. I feel bad for whoever believes this is accurate.

It's absolutely photoshopped. Luckily I was able to revert the image back to its original proportions.

Was a pretty good listen, I'd never heard of the podcast before and thought it was overall pretty good. Gorton interview starts somewhere after 00:40 don't remember exact timestamp.

-Gorton started with the Bruins in the 90s as a PR Intern. Within 6 months he'd already earned new responsibilities with scouts and hockey dept. Said his thing early on was to get to the rink before everyone else and leave after everyone else.
-On if there was something between Tom Wilson and the Rangers prior to that night, Gorton sort of hesitated and said no, not really, Tom knew we didn't have an answer for him and he likes to be a bully.
-Gorton said at one point he had called Tony and told him, we are in the business of entertainment and selling seats to the games, and that fighting with fans on twitter goes against that.
-When asked about Tony's podcast, Gorton brought up Tony's politics and how he's a "philly guy" who is really well liked by teammates, funny guy, and really passionate about his view on how the world should work.
-Gorton said at one point, so much of the job as NYR GM was not-hockey: lawyers, agents, etc. which was draining
-Gorton said he sort of laughs when fans blame him for selecting a certain player in the draft or trading for a certain player. Even if Gorton had seen a player twice in person, he always deferred to the scouts that had seen that player 20 times and let them make the call on if that player was special or not etc.
-Jokingly said at the end that Panarin speaks perfect english but puts on an act so he doesn't have to deal with the media. It was a joke but it sounded to have at least a little truth to it.
-Gorton said he will be working with NHL Network this year, likely a couple days a week, since they are in new jersey which is closer than ESPN.

Some other stuff too

This isn't the first time somebody said Panarin's poor English was all an act  I swear I've heard multiple players/ppl who work in hockey say this before.

Gorton didn't sound like a guy who believed his getting fired wasn't about Wilson. And again, before those four games with Trouba, Kreider and Lindgren out, the Rangers had a winning record in the past two years against the Isles and Caps.

I never fully believed them being fired was solely because of the Wilson incident. This organization has had so many issues the last 24 months, that this was simply the last straw.

Davidson didn't do what he was brought in to do. I always felt we had 2 captains steering the same ship, while on that ship fights broke out that neither tried to fix.Players bolted, criticized the way they were treated and ultimately it was just too much.

It wouldn't, but you get the feeling that ship has sailed, which is too bad.

If he hadn't been mishandled in Vegas, he could have really surprised people like Dadonov and Radulov did.

Yeah, his time in Vegas was very unfortunate and what happened to him and his family is terrible. I feel for the guy and I am afraid that closed the door of another NHL adventure for good. Massive mismanagement.

Listen I like Gorts but time to move on...his take was meh...it was his job to balance the lineup to protect his jewels ...he failed

The bolded is it.

I 100% am of the opinion that he should have been given the chance to do that this offseason.

At the same time, he should have 100% done it last off season. The line about him wanting to see how the young players could handle adversity was complete and utter BS. They would have had to battle through that shit regardless of whether or not they had support. Those weren't the guys who were the subject of Wilson's torment anyway.

Exactly. The President needs to set the course and JD, unfortunately, didn’t read the road very well. Can’t blame him for the pandemic of course, but there were a lot of missteps. I missed it as it was happening, this is totally a hindsight take.
JD put a good face on the franchise. But especially with a GM like Gorton, better leadership was needed.
No idea if Drury is that guy.

I don't blame JD for the pandemic, but I blame him for not managing this organization the way a president should. This org has had more shit happening than most teams don't see in a decade.

He really didn't do his job, and I can't even say I am disappointed he left. He sucked here.

Gorton had two more seasons left on his Rangers contract. Did he negotiate a buyout with the Garden? He is talking too much. Usually guys who get fired don't say anything. They keep their mouth shut because they don't want to say something wrong and the team refuses to pay them.

I liked Gorton very much. I liked JD too. I grew up with him on the Rangers broadcasts. Everyone did. There was a chaotic feel around the team. Lias Andersson wanted to be traded. He leaves the AHL team. He wouldn't come back to the organization.Tony DeAngelo was a big problem. He had that one solid year in 2019-20. It ended badly here. The fight with Alexandar Georgiev. The twitter nonsense. Artemi Panarin leaving the team because one of his former coaches made decade old allegations and Panarin left the team for 3 weeks. Where did he go? Were those allegations resolved?

Gorton & JD probably would have kept Quinn and his staff. Quinn had two seasons remaining on his contract. If there wasn't improvement in 21-22, Quinn and his staff would have been gone. The players didn't like Quinn very much. Brooks wrote that. Maybe Sather and ownership wanted a coaching change and the Rangers brass wanted to wait another season.

The Rangers didn't make any moves last off-season after losing to Carolina. They had cap issues. The Rangers re-signed their own players. Their major move was signing Jack Johnson. There didn't seem to be an urgency to get better.

The Rangers were quiet at the trade deadline.

The defensive corps last season was not playoff caliber. It might have been, had we also not had one of the worse groups of forwards in the league in terms of defensive support.

This is one the reasons I found the low self-evaluation of Buchnevich puzzling. He was one of the only guys on the roster consistently backchecking hard last year.

The defense will be better this coming season just by virtue of Hajek, Jack Johnson, and Smith not getting regular minutes. The first two were literally two of the worst defensemen in hockey when it came to advanced metrics. Nemeth's metrics aren't terrible for what he does and Lundkvist as a righty to bring balance to the defensive corps is going to be a huge boon.

The issue with forward support on the backcheck was a combination of inexperience and poor coaching, I'm not going to dispute that.

Something still stinks to me about the Buchnevich situation to me. There had to have been an issue in the locker room or behind the scenes with him. It just feels like Drury took the best offer based on the ownership mandate and took a lower than market value deal for Buch. It's one thing if the Rangers didn't want to pay him what St. Louis gave him on a long term deal, but why not accept the arbitration award for a year and see what develops? It's not like the Rangers are hurting for cap space. You can't tell me that the Rangers couldn't have gotten Blais and a 2nd or equivalent value at the deadline this season.
