Fair, but I don’t think there’s any way they can keep Strome beyond this season. If he’s a self rental, then so be it, but signing him would be a mistake

Yeah, you can replace Strome in free agency if you really want to. I know not all of these will make it there but one of Hertl, Couturier, Dubois or Barkov would be prime targets for the Rangers depending on what they're looking for.
I really like Couturier, for what he brings. He will be expensive, but a better fit than Strome if they decide to go that route.

At some point you're going to have to commit money to players who are older than 25.

I doubt any of them make it to UFA, if they are dealt, most likely sign on with the team that trades for them. High end centers 30 and under are always a premium.
The best we could probably hope for is a Kevin Hayes type, but he’s way less talented then the 4 above.

I’d bet several of them make it to UFA.

some teams gunning for a cup will be looking strictly for rentals. Colorado for instance wouldn’t dare lock up any of those guys with a massive Mackinnon extension looking.

As someone who watches Ott as much as Rangers:

I’d much rather have Colin White than Logan Brown if we’re dealing Strome to OTT. I’d add pieces on both ends to balance out the value

Disagree, I’d rather Brown.

Logan Brown is poop. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

He has potential and has to be given a chance to succeed. Ott won’t do that for him. Given he does have injury concerns so that doesn’t help. But I’d take a risk on him in a Strome deal for sure as long as there’s a +.

I rather keep Strome if those are my options

If he had term I’d agree. Considering what Buch got if L Brown + 2nd was on the table I’d be tempted to take it. All depends on what else is available on the market and what other offers are available for Strome of course.

If we trade Buchnevich for Blais so we wouldn’t have to pay him 5.8 million but then turn around and pay Strome 7…

… holy hell.
There’s absolutely no way that happens. They’ve been trying to trade Strome for a couple seasons now it seems like, I think there’s no way they will commit to him at an AAV like that.

You don't understand, we need to dig up any old vet name and give him a tryout, it is that time of year of the offseason

Was playing NHL '07.

Call up Immonen, Michael Nylander, Andy McDonald, Danny Briere, Marc Savard, Tanguay, Andrew Brunette, and David Vyborny. Datsyuk is still playing in Russia...

And I remember there were rumors linking us to Glencross about 6 years ago.

Trouba and panarin. Buch, fast and Smith were too when they were here. I suppose we don't even have much of a core, but yeah when they were all together they did fck all.

They've been here through a rebuild and two mutilated seasons surrounded by youth and trash pickups over the summer. Not time to grade that paper yet.

Brian Burke and Ron Hextall didn’t take jobs in Pitt to turn around and trade Crosby. Malkin? Maybe due to his health issues, but even that I doubt. They want to win again with Sid.
I don’t disagree with you. I doubt they ever even consider moving Crosby unless things go completely sideways next year. I mean its not like Crosby is 27-28 years old. He is 34. He has 4 years left on his deal. If things dont go well next year they will have to consider a rebuild. And a rebuild that could take 3-5 years is basically the end of Crosby’s career. Might as well use his value to get pieces to help with the rebuild.

Malkin, same thing.

And another guy who would be of interest as a deadline rental is Jeff Carter. He was very effective for them against the Islanders. Only a $2.636 AAV Cap hit that will be even smaller at the deadline.

Couturier is one of the main centers I was hoping we would be looking into eventually. He probably would be a bit expensive but I think well, well worth the price if we could acquire him in FA. Dubois would probably be my second choice. I have concerns about Barkov and Hertl. Barkov's ability to stay on the ice in particular.

In all honesty, I would actually be ok with not re-signing Zibanijad and bringing in someone like Couturier as well. It would be a stretch to think we could not re-sign both Strome and Ziban and bring in both Couturier and PLD I guess, but something like that would be optimal. But, I do think Chytil, or hope Chytil would be ready by next season, if not this season, to actually take over that 2C role. In which case, I would be fine with not re-signing either Ziban and Strome and bringing in a Couturier or PLD for the 1st line. And then hopefully a legitimate, but not necessarily high level 200ft center for 3C. In the Danault or Jordan Staal mold. lol, just using Staal as an example, I know some Ranger fans have "Staal issues".

The great thing about Couturier, the more he plays with AV, the more his UFA value drops. We can get a steal.

He will look like McDonagh pre-Tampa trade...

I really hope Gallant doesn't roll in and put KK on Panarin's line, their games don't mesh together at all.

What you described as a 4th line is very similar to the Nosek Bellemare Reeves line during the '18 playoff run.

In the end, none of us know what's going through Turk's mind.
They'd mesh fine if KK's vision and passing take a step up this year
