What to do with Kreider?

32 year old Zucc signed for 5 years X 6M. Pretty sure there will be numerous teams willing to go 7X7 for CK.

If Kreider is willing to go to the highest bidder, as opposed to like handpicking an attractive team willing to pay him a ton like Bos or STL or Colorado, I could see him getting closer to 8.5m too.

I think Kreider is probably seen as being more of a unique skill set and a guy who impacts a game --- especially if a team is younger and already has an elite center in place.

I think there will be at least a couple of 7 year deals on the table. The question is where the cross section lies between the best offer and the places he is interested in playing.

So us basically

If the Leafs are serious about Georgiev Johnsson or Kapanen are the obvious targets

Having either one of them would be nice for the depth of this team. Kapanen is going to be a RFA after his deal is up

Kapanen makes the most sense and I’m glad the media is pushing a better narrative when it comes to the return. I could easily see them saying bracco would be a good get for us. We want someone better. Love that.

So us basically

Yes, and no.

We already have a winger we've invested in with Panarin, and one could argue that we're still assembling the pieces.

I was referring more to teams like Colorado, and to a lesser extent, Florida. Teams coming out of similar phases as us, but maybe a few stations down the line and without some of personnel choices we’ve made.

What 30? Last year they finished where they were expected to finish. This year they are either exactly where they are or even exceeding expectations a bit. With that data, you are going to use the first 10 games and fire him if they are not 8-2?
That possibility does exist if they think that there is somebody else out there that might be able to do better . We do have a new man at the helm now , JD . He might have thoughts of something else . You don't know his plans nor do I . Accept that you might be wrong .

Rangers should trade Buchnevich to resign Kreider

I think there’s this idea that trading Buch means keeping Kreider, but I don’t know if it’s quite that cut and dry.

The idea of trading Buch isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but I think there’s probably a greater interest in trading him for an NHL player rather than prospects and picks.

The former would mean an NHL salary (or salaries) is coming back the other way, the latter would be more about freeing up salary.

Thomas and Kyrou aren't happening, folks. Might as well put those ideas to bed now instead of getting your hopes up.

Kostin might be gettable but even he is a long shot. He's just starting to put his game together in the AHL after recovering from a knee injury around Thanksgiving.

Higher-end prospects just don't get moved for rentals at the deadline. You either get a guy who is on a lower rung with a reasonably high floor, or you get a guy who might have a high ceiling but has struggled to put it all together. If you're lucky maybe you can nab one of each.
Kyrou had the knee injury this year. Kostin injured his shoulder around Thanksgiving.

Why can’t you realize or accept (and others of the same belief) that resigning Kreider and whether or not trading Buchnevich are independent considerations, or at least not directly related? Kreider will be moved instead of resigned for the same reasons that Hayes and Zuke were moved last year. If Buchnevich is moved it’s probably for a better fit or a bigger value. I personally don’t think it’s happening because the Russian is better than his offensive stats.

Here are the holes to this team and where everyone should be right now. This team wont be good until those spots are filled bu players who are actual top 6 players and left side NHL dmen. Kakko will fill one of those top 6 at some point, maybe Kravtsov? The D needs Miller, and for Hajek to mature.

Kreider Zibanajad _______
Panarin Strome _________
Buch Chytil Kakko
Lemieux Howden Fast

________ Trouba
Skjei Fox
_______ DeAngelo

Until those spots are held by players who are ready to hold them this is where this team is at.

Lindgren is great with Fox. He’s on the team.

There is no way the Rangers can keep Kreider, Skjei, Strome, Fast, DeAngelo. The math isn’t even close to adding up. At least one and probably two of those names need to be moved. Kreider is obvious and I think Fast goes as well.

Buch is terrible at left wing and will be on the right. He’s also snake bitten and still pacing 45 points. He’s a top 6er until Kakko surpasses him.

I’d be curious to know what Colorado would give up for a package of Kreider & Georgiev.

Their goaltending is a problem and Kreids over Nichuskin is a huge upgrade at 2LW.

If Colorado is wants both, Newhook is my ask and I don’t make the deal unless he’s included. I think there should be an add from Colorado as well. Maybe a 2nd.

Is their goaltending really a problem? Is Georgiev a legit upgrade? I don't know where Georgiev to Colorado started. The avs were on a tear for a long time, they are running a little cold recently. That happens in a season. If Sakic was willing to wait two years to deal Duchene, he will wait a few weeks for his team and goalies to rebound from a skid.

I kind of think this is a situation in Toronto. Do they need an improvement in their goaltending tandem? Sure. Would they want Georgiev? Almost surely yes? But would they be willing to pay a steep price or rather be content to look for an alternative cheaper (maybe not just as good) option elsewhere? I think it would be the latter.

It was more of where the players belong in the current moment....ie top 6, bottom 6. Buch is playing top 6 but on a good team he isn't is the point.

I think with the Avalanche and Georgiev, you're looking at a situation where Grubauer hasn't been great, signed for 2 more years and Francouz, who is a UFA having a good season, but is 29 and mainly been in the KHL.

Georgiev gives them a long term option and in the short term could allow them to push Grubauer.

The only reason I think Colorado is a no on this is because possibly as soon as next season, Justus Annunen could be the guy there. Killed it at WJC and his LIIGA stats are better than Georgiev did at his age.

They could get Georgiev and have Annunen be a tandem in 2 years after Grubauer doesn't have a contract. Maybe they look at more of a rental option vs a player with more term, but goaltending is not really their issue and Georgiev isn't someone more proven to solidify it.

If they are targeting a goalie, I could see them going after Lehner if available. I'd put Georgiev to Colorado to bed as a non-option.

I disagree. The list of teams with 4 definitively better wingers than Buch is quite small. Only Tampa, Vegas, Philly, and Florida in my opinion.

Arguments can be made for Washington, Toronto, Carolina, Buffalo, and Arizona.

Buch is a top 6 NHL winger on an above average team.

The coach is always ripped to shreds around here. He's got a team with razor thin depth, and the young kids are mostly coming along nicely, so Im not sure what the expectations are.
He's doing exactly what he was brought in to do, he's doing a great job imo. We are as relentless as any team in the league and never give up, he's instilling the right work ethic & mentality into our young players, and we're playing exciting hockey for the first time in years
