From 31T:

"Toronto fans tweeted up a storm of Jeremy Bracco trades to get Alexandar Georgiev from the Rangers, but it will take more than that. Georgiev beat the Islanders 6-2 on Monday, and while New York is looking for a talented forward who is ready to play, they realize how good Georgiev can be."

31 Thoughts: The fallout from bombshell New Jersey, Vegas firings - Sportsnet.ca

This is ideal. Should not settle on anything. It's not like Toronto is the only team in the market. Need someone that could turn into a legit 3rd liner or already is one, and Bracco is not. Lots of boom there, because he is a point producer, but I don't think that's the kind of player they want to take a chance on, especially is Georgiev develops into a true #1.

andreas johnsson? Or is that too much from the TML side?

If the Leafs are serious about Georgiev Johnsson or Kapanen are the obvious targets

Having either one of them would be nice for the depth of this team. Kapanen is going to be a RFA after his deal is up

I'd much prefer to get Timashov from them. Feel like he's between Bracco and Johnsson and he's not on that deal Johnsson is on. Not sure I like his deal where he's counting as 3.4 against the cap.

I honestly feel Lindgren unless he takes another giant step ahead like he already did will be a 7th dman on a contending team.

Maybe.

We did get to a conference finals with Stu Bickel as a #6 defenseman and a Stanley cup finals with Rafael Diaz as a 7th dman.

I'd hope Lindgren is better than either of them.

Combined with the last 30 this year....it just might .
What 30? Last year they finished where they were expected to finish. This year they are either exactly where they are or even exceeding expectations a bit. With that data, you are going to use the first 10 games and fire him if they are not 8-2?

How fast exactly did you expect to see these things? More specifically, did you really think we'd have a full roster of players "proving consistency" and establishing an identity 15 months into Quinn's tenure and a pretty substantive rebuild? Because looking for anything more than flashes of that at this point of time is unfair.
Is it? I think especially defensively there would be some indication of a playing style. This doesn’t mean he needs to be fired but it’s a deficit right now.

So far. My point was that we should take a look if they are trending in the right direction.
Sure, but if Gallant had been fired, for example after the western Canada trip, instead of after beating up on rival that changes the narrative a bit too

Yes. That still does not mean that you fire a coach just because another became available.

On a slightly different note, I am shocked that he was let go so quickly.

I like johnsson's pep. He's probably about the type of player I think we could expect for Georgiev. Prefer him over Hyman because he's two years younger. Hyman also only has one year left on his contract, a modified NTC, and pending UFA so that seems like a weak organizational acquisition. Johnsson is signed at $3.4M for three more seasons so that is a cost controlled asset.

You can honestly look at what he has done this year and decide that he is already a non-NHL starter?

Sorry, I would be pretty happy with a future defense that had a Fox-Llindgren pair and another one that had DeAngelo and a Lindgren clone.

Thomas and Kyrou aren't happening, folks. Might as well put those ideas to bed now instead of getting your hopes up.

Kostin might be gettable but even he is a long shot. He's just starting to put his game together in the AHL after recovering from a knee injury around Thanksgiving.

Higher-end prospects just don't get moved for rentals at the deadline. You either get a guy who is on a lower rung with a reasonably high floor, or you get a guy who might have a high ceiling but has struggled to put it all together. If you're lucky maybe you can nab one of each.
