Eh I think there's a good amount of people that would see swapping Zibanejad for Eichel (in the lineup not necessarily in trade) being an upgrade if for no other reason than Eichel is in his prime years and Zibanejad is aging out of his

But that whole neck issue causes some problems

The contracts are the *only* thing that makes sense about a swap.

Sign Mika. Get it done with so we can move on. 6 years $8-9M. It stings but it's better than the alternative.

How would Jack Eichel hold up in a playoff series? The $10M question

assuming he's getting cleared to get surgery, he'll miss half the season (?) ... worst case we're talking next playoffs.

Then he's coming back from one year of no hockey, until he gets back to form, with a mentally nagging injury like he has.

I don't get it guys ... what's the goddamn deal with his injury? Can he please get it fixed or what?

I'd rather just not hear the answers to any of those questions while he's on our team, or at all for that matter.

camp "we gotta roll with Zibs and what we have", out

you're assuming Mika would sign a contract with no NMC or even limited NMC in the ink.
Think about it, you sign a contract and get traded to some hell hole...
OR
You don't sign a contract and pick the city of your choice as a UFA.
It's a no brainer which of these scenarios isn't going to happen.

How would anyone on the Rangers hold up in a playoff series? Not counting last year's debacle where we were wiped off the ice by Carolina we haven't made the playoffs in quite a while. I guess why worry about holding up in the playoffs if you can't get into them.

Sign him max term to bring down the price and LTIR him when he feels like he's done playing.

we're gonna have to go 8 years to get $8.5M considering how much Werenski and Jones got for being good but not nearly as important as Mika is to this team as the 1C.

I'd do it if we could shingle the actual dollars per year to decrease as the contract ages after year 3 and offer a NMC for years 1-5 that turns into a limited NTC in years 6-8.

The Rangers have just one small issue. The cap will flat for the next 5 seasons. Where is the money coming from?
I fully expect them to bridge as many guys as they can during this period to get through and deal with it all once the cap start rising again. By that time kreider will be movable and possibly trouba if they want to go there. It will be a mess at that point but this franchise has almost always bridged their players and it is the best way to keep the team together for the most part over the next few years.

He’s heavy on Jack cus the Rangers are heavy on Jack.

I wouldn't bet on it. Think there are a couple of teams out there probably higher on Jack than Drury and the Rangers. Don't really care what clickbait press is reporting.

And never listen to topshelfhockey. Lol Ziban not waiving to go to Buffalo.

What do u think a strome extension looks like?

4x6.5M?

In all honestly, I hope it looks like ....................................... "crickets".

We need him this season. I don't think we will need him after this upcoming season though. And not because we are getting Eichel, I don't think we are.

Chytil progressing nicely. Statistically, he was our best 5x5 and even strength center last season, per ATOI. He was actually top 50 in the NHL even strength per 60. That's nothing to scoff at for a 21 year old. Ziban can stay on. We will find a 3C for 2 years from now. Or hope Matthews doesn't extend with Toronto and goes to FA in 3 years I think, maybe 4. Can align a Zibs contract to run out when AM up for UFA and hope he wants to come here. If not, that still gives us 3-4 seasons to find a good center addition.
