What's the problem with that? A 6 or 7 year deal at that point takes him to 35-36. That's perfectly reasonable. In comparison, Hank was 32 when we gave him a 7 year big money extension that locked him up until 39. Big difference.
By the time Hank was Igor's age he had won a gold medal at the olympics, made the all-rookie team, had two vezina nominations, 123 RS games played, and a playoff series won. You're right, big difference.

Hank started 53 games as a rookie, was on the all-rookie team, was a Calder finalist and a Vezina finalist as a rookie and then he followed that up by starting 70 games in his second year and was a Vezina finalist again. Led the Rangers to the playoffs in both seasons as well.

Hank was on another level.
he was not a calder finalist. came in 4th behind Phaneuf.

There was a rumor last week about the Flames, Blues and Sabres working on a deal. The Flames are sick of Tkachuk's BS antics. He also wants crazy money in his next long-term contract. We look at Tkachuk as this great player. We know Larry Brooks does. The Flames look at him and point at his flaws. He is not worth $9M. The Sabres don't want Tkachuk. He won't re-sign there and he doesn't fit their plan. The Blues love Tkachuk. He apparently wants to play in St.Louis. The Flames want to change their team. The Sabres and Flames are looking for a 3rd team. The Blues.

This is the first Eichel trade scenario that I believe in. Calgary get a locked up asset. Gaurdeu could make Eichel tic better (he can make anyone tic).

Tarasenko, Kostin and a 1st and one of STL young players to Buff

Eichel to Calgary

Tkachuk to STL

Hank was a vezina finalist during his first contract and Igor hasn't even played a full season. they're not comparable.

Wasn’t comparing Hanks play to Igors. Was comparing their 1st significant contract extensions in relevance to the teams cap %. Igors is about half. I don’t believe it’s as terrible as some people are making it out to be.

Drury haven’t signed the contract… ;)

Would have liked to be able to read what it said above, but the quality is not good enough…

Also, someone distributed that contract as a pdf, it was printed, a change was made in ink, agreed upon and then signed. No other reason for signing a scanned copy of an agreement instead of a print of the original. Super important information.

I wasn't comparing Lundqvist at age 25 to Shesterkin at age 25, so I don't get the point you are making here. Lundqvist deservedly got paid a much higher percentage of the cap (~12%) in his second deal than Shesterkin is now (~7%) for that reason.

If it wasn't already obvious, ownership feels we are right in the cup window. Expect a full on push over the next 4 years

I'd guess like 16-20m on Fox and #1C (regardless of who)

Leaves like 8-10M next year for the positions/roster slots that Kakko, Krav, Geo, Blias, Strome currently hold.

I agree that he is the best center we’ve had in a long time, but that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily the right move to resign him.

Zibanejad will be 29 when the new contract begins and I have serious concerns about how well he will age in the NHL.

If he winds up making prime money for the next 7 years, how long will he be able to live up to that cap hit? 3 years? 4 years? Is he going to become a burden just as the team’s contending window starts to open? I like Zibanejad as a player, but I don’t like the timeline.

If we’re getting rid of Zibanejad, they will need a replacement. If it’s not Eichel, what’s the plan?

We're in a pretty good spot atm. There is a 5 year Panarin window, than an 8+ year Laf/Kakko/Fox window after Trouba, Panarin Kreider and Goodrow start coming off the books. As long as Drury doesn't start shipping kids off and leveraging the 2nd (and imo more realistic window) for this current window, we should remain in a good spot. I know it's an unpopular opinion these days, but i'll give Drury the benefit of the doubt in realizing this until I see otherwise.

Also, some pretty notably UFA's set to hit the market around then ;;cough..cough...mcdavid...cough;;

I continue to believe they want a two headed monster of Eichel and Mika. Anything that involves bringing in Eichel at the expense of Mika and 4 top assets makes us worse. By a lot
But with trading Zibanejad and using the return in a deal for Eichel means that it would not be 4 Rangers assets. Maybe only two.

Yeah, we're talking UFA years. If people wanted him locked in for 6-7 years, that's what Shesterkin would want. Look at the foundation of the deal. 3M for this season but 7M total in year 3. If you added one some more years, he's asking for more than that.

It's why this deal is the right length. Of Shesterkin is the best in the league or one of the best, you got him on a good deal and can reassess in 4 years time.
