My guess is the bullying that Lias referred to other than obvious beef with coach Quinn is the medical/trainer personnel pushed him to play through some pain/injury which he was not used to and obviously resulted in poor on ice production. Rangers trainers are known to make players play with lots of injuries, Dan Girardi is a good example and his game deteriorated because he was always so banged up. My guess is he doesn't want to say it to get those people in trouble before getting all info on what exactly is his injury/pain.
Girardi is a bad comparison. He (and the others) played through their injuries because they were close to the Cup. Players will do that when a championship is on the line.

Spoke with a friend of mine out of Boston.

He told me about Hayes to NYR before anyone reported interest. Same with Vesey.

He has connections in Boston Area Hockey

That Bolded statement above is what he stated was being discussed.

Could be nothing, but hes 2 for 2 in terms of NYR and Boston connected players specifically
Heinen, Frederic and a first for Kreider with somewhere between $1,5M to 2,2M retained.

Nice write up over at the Athletic about Shattenkirk’s resurgence on the Lightning this season with some advanced analytics sprinkled throughout.

Hard to imagine what the offensive output from him and the rest of the D as a whole would be with him in the lineup instead of Staal and/or Smith at this point.

I know something had to be done there and I don’t recall the finer details of the numbers but geeze... we all knew he had a bounce back year coming.

Granted it’s with the Lightning with all of their weapons - but with Panarin here and Deangelo piling up the points. Not buying him out may have saved the rangers some money with Tony’s upcoming contract!

It’s funny how things work out. Maybe for the best to allow these kids to thrive. But, you never really know...

So maybe another reason we got Shesterkin thrown in the mix but it’s what we’ve been saying. A lot of bad goals the past month have hurt us. Goaltending was a strength but they’ve struggled lately. Every other metric has us heading in the right direction.

I have given Trouba thsi season to acclimate himself to the club . I think with a decent steady partner and consistency from the rest of the D and some forwards backchecking a bit moe and a guy that can up the FO winning percentage our defense as a whole can improve right across the board . He needs work though getting his PP shot on target ....that would help .
The Bolded so important to bring to the discussion regarding Trouba, not that Trouba should have to even be defended right now. Its hard to evaluate someone with all those negative factors.

I’ve refused to comment on Trouba because it’s so asinine to bash the guy. He’s played 40 games a ranger the team has been a mess and he literally every night carries the blueline in all situations. Does he have a few bad moments? Sure of course. He plays 25 mins a night against the best players in the world. You think he’s going to be immune to getting smoked? It’s so ridiculous. I love Tony and fox but they don’t play the tough shut down mins this guy has to play. He’s 25 years old ffs. He’s only going to get better and better. Mean nasty I can’t wait to see him in the playoffs for us. He’s a beast. He’s absolutely a number one Dman. If you watch other top Dmen they make the same dreaded mistakes every night.

Oh by the way played half the games with friggen libor Hajek a very raw rookie. Our system needs a lot of work. It’s getting better and with it so will his numbers but the Trouba bashing is right up there with the Kakko bashing as some of the dumbest shit I’ve seen here in a long time.

Heinen is a name I'm a little surprised to see- unless NYR plan to most certainly move on from Strome. He's a middle 6 center, not a 4th line guy, despite struggling this year, and NYR have Zibanejad-Strome-Chytil down the middle.

I think I'd rather have Frederic, who more fits the 4th line mold and is younger.

But Strome could easily move to wing. Chytil could too although less ideal. I am sure Heinen could shift to wing too. The transition to wing is easier than to center.

Not concerned with a blockage. We need 2nd-3rd line tweeners. Thats how you end up with a great 3rd line.

Trouba has been good, why is it when we see a guy get beat a couple times that's etched into everyone's brains and they cant see the work he does vs top lines and on the pk. Everyone gets beat from time to time, it's just a matter of you like the guy or not whether its pointed out and if he wasnt there it would expose DeAngelo and Fox to harder minutes. DeAngelo is a good example, he is a wonderful player but anything negative he does is thrown out the window while everyone piles on Skjei for the same thing. My preference would be to play Tony on the left side the rest of the year and see if it works, if it does then you can have confidence to sign him for a longer deal at a rate that he accepts, it might let Skjei drop to 2nd pair too. But If he cant then I dont know what to say, he is gonna be 3rd pair d man and paying him 6 mill doesnt make sense for the long term of this team, especially since Fox continues to grow into DeAngelo plus better defense. Its unimaginable that we would move him but in a cap system its possible we might have to.

I'll add that if the team wants to keep ADA around and have him be the team's offensive dman specialist- It probably doesn't make a huge difference whether he plays on the left or the right hand side of the ice. He's got decent enough puckhandling skills to deal with the backhand reception at the blueline, and he isn't exactly a master of defending the rush anyways, so handedness isn't a huge deal.

And no, there's no rule against having 3 good defensemen. It's just inconvenient if they all have to always be on the ice at different times during even strength.

Why are we spending so much time talking about the D personnel? We have like 8-9 NHL caliber forwards on the current roster. And literally no NHL ready prospects who will be able to step in for a while. Depending on what we do with Fast, Kreider and Strome, we may have even less.

As for moving any of the D for help upfront, it makes no sense to move anyone that is young and proven -- unless we prefer a 5-7 year rebuild.

If we start trading away the D that are reaching their potential now, we'll have to wait 3-5 years before the next batch reaches theirs.

Beyond that, we should avoid trading young NHL d-men until the whole team is playing a more sound defensive structure. The three biggest culprits as far as making our D consistently look bad:

1 - not having 5 guys in the picture (aka the forwards are not consistently defending/supporting the puck well enough)
2 - goaltenders who handle the puck and rebounds like a hot potato. (anyone not named Igor)
3 - not consistently slowing down the opposition in the neutral zone.

When these issues are addressed more consistently by the goaltending and forwards, our overall defending will look a lot better. At that point, we'll be able to better assess what we have with our current D personnel. But also, it'll be a lot easier to develop these kids at the NHL level.

these two things…..might be connected.

Disagree.

Rykov and Keane appear to be potentially not far away. Hajek and Lindgren haven't shared much time yet this season. We have Smith that we can shift back to the third pairing in a pinch. Miller, Lundkvist, and Jones are the long plays.

We're talking about D in part because it could be a vehicle for us to fix the forward situation you alluded to. Barron is the only F prospect who looks like he might even be NHL ready by the 2022-2023 season, unless theres a turnaround with Kravtsov.

That's why we're talking about trading guys like Skjei or DeAngelo, as well as re-signing Fast and Strome. We all agree we need to do something about the F situation.
