You’re going to know very soon if hank is going to retire or not. We go past the deadline with Georgiev still here and even more so with Kreider still here my guess is hank is done. We are not going to do this 3 goaltender thing very long. It’s awful for the goalies. There is very little practice time this time of year. Georgiev is just sitting in the press box. We’ve got a long break coming up soon. Shesterkin will probably go down at some point soon for a game or two while Georgiev and hank split a weekend or something like that but this won’t last long. It can’t.

Well, I would say that Georgiev being here past the deadline doesn't necessarily mean Lundqvist is done.

Even if Hank stays, I think the better money would be on the Rangers moving Georgiev in the offseason.

Waiting till the offseason to trade georgiev while holding him in limbo for the next 4 months doesn’t help him or the org in any way. He’s barely going to play with Shesterkin here. He’s sitting in the press box that’s going to continue for large stretches.

if he isn’t in the long term plans he should be dealt immediately

I pose the same question to you as I did to Edge. Who do you consider elite? Because if you look beyond sv% and GAA ans dive into the advanced stats, Hank is outperforming basically everbody you would consider elite.
For names, look at what Edge provide.

For the so-called advanced metrics, this is why one cannot look at them and pronounce judgments based solely on them.

He'll play. He'll get some time. Shesterkin will probably shuttle a few times, and probably stay down in Hartford for the stretch. Georgiev will probably get more time down the stretch, while Shesterkin gears up for the AHL playoffs.

Assuming Shesterkin continues does well, and there's not an offer the Rangers don't jump at that includes Georgiev.

But in the grand scheme of things, a limited three-way split vs. a two way split is not going to result in a huge loss in playing time for Georgiev --- maybe 5 or 6 games?

I don’t think Shesterkin is gearing up for anything AHL related anytime soon. Agreed he may play a few games down there but those will be few and far between unless he really falls apart here.

Yah Georgiev Will get SOME time but he was already splitting games. Now that will be even less. It’s hardly enough. If your intention is to trade him then you’d be doing everyone an injustice by waiting any longer to do so. If he’s in your long term plans and you think Hanks gonna retire well then u bite the bullet here the rest of the season sure.

Look, there's what, 39 games left in the season?

An even two way split would have Lundqvist and Georgiev playing roughly 19 games each (or 20/19).

A three way split has everyone playing 13.

So that's six less games for Georgiev.

But we factor in all-star breaks, a stretch run to the playoffs, a cluster of games at the AHL level, and that number drops to maybe 10 or 11 games for Shesterkin. So let's go with 11, which is two less than 13. He takes one start from Lundqvist and one from Georgiev.

So we're talking about 5 less starts over the next four months?

Ideal? No. But not catastrophic either.

The plan, as described a few weeks ago, was to send Shesterkin down when there were stretches in the NHL schedule where he might sit for a while. He'll likely play in the allstar game in the AHL, and he's going back down to gear up for the AHL playoffs, because the team wants him getting that experience.

So, in my previous post, the math difference isn't as dramatic as it seems on first blush.

Well I agree like I said he may go down for a weekend here and there but AHl playoffs? When our season ends maybe If we don’t make the playoffs. But I don’t think that’s on anyone’s mind there right now.

but you cut the duties into thirds just to trade a guy in the off-season makes little sense. Teams want Georgiev now. No doubt about it. So makes very little sense to keep him till the summer just to trade him.

So Bob and Holtby are considered elite by your account. Ok, got it.

What I will say is the Igor chant sounds like crap. The chant should be Shesty. So for the loyal blue seaters here. Please make the change quickly.

Today, they are. No one is talking about comparing careers with Henke. And if you saw Bob's numbers prior to this year, you could honestly say that no, he isn't?

I like Trouba, not sure if he's worth the money, but and I know it's probably been discussed ad nausem, but do you guys foresee a scenario where they actually move him in order to pay for some raises we'll have upcoming?

Well a couple of things.

The plan, as described, had Shesterkin going down for the AHL playoffs. There's little reason for that to change, unless they move Georgiev. Even then, I think they still send him down. So no, it's very much on their mind.

As for Georgiev, we don't know how many teams want him now, or what they're even offering. For all we know, it's three teams and they want to send a second round pick to the Rangers. And if that's what's out there right now, I don't know if that's going to move the needle for the Rangers.

And again, internally, there was some hedging against what Lundqvist may be planning. So unless there is a deal they like on the table, that just becomes one more reason they might not be itching to make a deal right now.

At the end of the day, I don't think 5 less starts is going to ruin Georgiev or have a major impact on his trade value. I really don't. And that's assuming that it actually plays out this way.

If Shesterkin gets bombed in his next two starts, things will adjust accordingly. But all of this is exactly why the Rangers are going to (and should) proceed with caution for the time being.

What plan is this? I’ve only heard them say we’re taking this day by day.

But honestly do you think if he goes on a run here they’re going to send him down to the AHl for the playoffs? No that immediately goes out the window if you prove you belong here and win games.

And it’s not just starts. Like I’ve said practice time is limited as it is right now. So now your also cutting practice time. You aren’t even dressing for games and getting any work in warmups or in relief. There’s a lot of on ice time getting cut here a lot. There’s a reason this doesn’t work

I do not see that happening. They got him to be a stalwart on the top pair. There is no one here right now that can supplant him.

There is a very, very small group that does.

It would be absolutely ASININE. It took YEARS to stabilize the right side. One good half of the season, albeit offensively, from the right side and people think we can move on from Trouba. I dont want to say those people are morons but they are damn near close to that term. Trouba is a #1B RD. He may not be elite but he does a ton of good things. Oh and he actually plays physical, sticks up for teammates, protects the front of the net, has a nasty side to him, lays big hits which makes opposing forwards have to think twice entering the zone, and can play actual DEFENSE.

It aint happening so no need to worry really, but its mind boggling that some think its a good move

I don't. The organization would have had to sour on him within the span of a year, and I can't see it happening.

Once his NMC kicks in this summer, all the trade talk will die. He's here for the long haul

I wish they'd consider moving Trouba, yet I don't think they will.

The same plan I've been referencing for a few months now. Shesterkin up in the new year. Gets some snaps. Goes down for stretches. Goes down for the playoffs. That's what the Rangers are operating with right now.

I think barring a major run, they stick to the plan. But can we cross that bridge before we start passionately debating it? There's just so much road to go down before this is a thing, and a lot can happen along the way.

You're right about this not being an ideal situation, but we are in a very unique situation. But ideal goes out the window the minute you encounter everyday scenarios. So here's where we are - the Rangers are taking a look, they're listening to see what offers are out there or aren't, they're waiting for confirmation on what Lundqvist is going to do (which I suspect they don't have yet), and then they will proceed accordingly.

I think in this scenario, they're doing what they have to do, which includes taking a look at Shesterkin before they make a decision that has long-term implications on this franchise. Do I think it will dramatically impact Georgiev's career over the long-haul, or his potential trade value? No, I really don't.

Let’s assume we make some okay trades but don’t hit home runs of the + being added we want in some cases

Staal buyout

Kreider for Heinen + 1st at deadline
Skjei for Tuch + 2nd

Offseason:
Buchnevich for Nurse
Georgiev for Kapenen
Sign Conor Sheary

Panarin Strome Kapenen
Heinen Zib Tuch
Sheary Chytil Kakko
Lemiuex Howden Fast

Nurse Trouba
Hajek Deangelo
Lindgren Fox

We still would have Miller, Lundkvist, Kravstov all coming soon and have 2 2020 1sts, a 2020 2nd, and 2 2020 3rds to upgrade a top 6 LW if needed

Could also move Deangelo to the left if Lundkvist is ready

Off the top of my head:

Raask, Bishop, Bobrosky (though not so much this season), maybe Holtby (though not this season).

The better question might be not who's elite, but who would I start over Lundqvist at this point, because that list is a bit longer.
Holtby hasn't been close to elite for the past two/three seasons.

Why does he need a better partner? He has the 5th highest cap-hit among defensemen in the NHL
So because a defenseman gets paid good money, they don’t need a competent partner so that they dont have to overcompensate every time on the ice for the partner’s shortcoming.

This is LOL funny and ignorant at the same time
