Ottawas pick will never be available imo.
There's no chance Colorado gives up the best odds for Hughes for that package. No chance. Getting
I’ve always been sceptical about ‘tanking’ because it’s so easy for it to not work out as you planned. You get the 1st overall, the wrong year. You get a handful too many wins one year and the draft is top heavy, a year completely wasted. Kids you have are often ruined since they don’t get any support in their development.
But if we are falling apart now, hallelujah! Surely nothing would be better for this organization to finish deadlast and get some luck in the lottery, like Toronto did. ESPECIALLY a year like this, when we still have a framework in place for a team and recently had a winning culture.
Keeping riding Hank hard, he should get an injury eventually. Deal away a few guys as soon as Gorts can get value for them. If we don’t pile up too many points now — after those moves are done, Geo and Tokaraski and co in the net, we should have a good shot at getting a bottoms finish.
And if we get a top guy in this draft that seems to be very strong in the top 4-5, a quick turnaround is definitely possible.
I'm assuming Ottawa continues to be awful and ends up at the bottom of the league. But perhaps I should revise that and say the 2nd best odds. After they move all their UFA's they might not win another game.Just a question, why do you refer it to the ‘best odds for Hughes’? Ottawa has no initiative to tank. Do you really think they will be bottom 2 after 82 games? Bottom 3? 4?
I mean they suck, but there are some great top young talent out there and many teams will gun for it.
I do not see a quick turnaround. It's like I see a separate compartment entirely for creating a competitive defensive corps. While all components are related to the whole, this rebuild of the back end is going to be a tough nut to crack, and it matters a whole lot to what happens because it is way more of a weakness than the forwards. Chytil, Andersson, Howden, etc. are here. Those dice have been rolled, and let's see where they go. Can't second-guess absolutely everything, have to commit somewhere.
Commit energy and focus to fixing the woeful back end, use some of the existing vets as chips to get a start. The failure of the McIlrath pick still reverberates.
What you say is true about where McIlrath would be positioned now, should he have stuck, or whether he would even be here in the mix. My post is probably more reflective of my wishes for that pick to have been a homerun to build around (failing that, a solid top four at worst). That level of optimism, yeah that's on me, and I need to temper it somewhat. At this point, whoever we would’ve taken in 2010 would like be in trade discussions. Such is the nature of sports.

Because you can't hit "sim season" in real life? But why do we even want a quick turnaround? I feel as though we really need to draft in the top 5 for a few years in a row. We need a few top end talents, and as of now we really have none.

I think most ppl would do a 3 yr rebuild but not a 5 and certainly not an entire org 7-10 styleI understand that, but we also have one Stanley cup in 77 years. Most people are willing to wait out a full rebuild so we can finally have a perennial cup contender, who knows maybe win one or more cups as well.

Lol more in the summer? Did you see what Skinner and Hoffman moved for. They’re gonna be kicking themselves when they walk away with a Grabner type return when they could have gotten more in the summer
Skinner doesn’t count, bobbop just said there were behind the scene issues there that had an effect on the returnLol more in the summer? Did you see what Skinner and Hoffman moved for.
