I can't see if you were responding to another post bc it is likely someone I have on ignore... but I saw that you wrote "has 1 year left till UFA, same as ADA"

The person you're ignoring asked when Nurse will be a UFA and why wouldn't we wait to sign him.

It'd be a nice QoL update, to show someone is quoted, even though he's being ignored.

Okay, but none of those guys are unrestricted free agents at the end of their current contracts

Thats why I said in 1 year. It's not exact but I meant 2021-2022.

hence like ADA... who has 1 more RFA year.

But I think that is also wrong; this is ADA's 4th year and he is only 24, which means he would need 3 more years to become a UFA
Nurse is also 24 but this is his 5th year, so he would need 2 more years (which I think is what you meant in your last post? But also EDM is very unlikely to just give him a 1 year RFA deal to take him to UFA status)

This whole time I thought it was when the ELC was signed. My whole life is a lie

Thanks for the correction.

How many years does Nurse have on his contract? Why trade players if we can get him in FA in a year or two?
For starters, you are likely to get a better deal on a contract without having other teams in the bidding process. Additionally, there is never a guarantee. If I had a nickel for every time someone said "why trade for player X if we can get them in FA for free", only to have that player go elsewhere, I would be able to retire. And for what its worth, I am only in my 30's.

Eh, I don’t know that Skjei to Nurse is that marginal. Nurse has been exceptional on a very bad team. Averages 22-24 minutes, just 24 years old, put up 41 points last year at 23. Great skater, physical force, good defensively. I think that’s a fairly significant upgrade. While Buch to Nylander may not be as significant statistically, I think Nylander can drive offense more than Buch who simply has the talent to contribute and he’s more of a threat that other teams key in on, opening space for linemates. Georgiev has good value in a vacuum but goalies rarely get great returns and it is a bit of a position of luxury for us right now. I probably do those trades if they were actually available.
I heeeear you, but what are his point totals if he isn't logging the time with McDavid and Draisaitl that he does?

Also, this does somewhat go to my point: that's a good defenseman; not a great one. What this team needs is that absolute stud on the left side to pair with Trouba. The only guy who (currently) projects to be that is Miller... and he's a) having a down year and b) at least a few years away from reaching that potential.

Yeah it is weird; it is age 27 you can declare or after 7 years of playing in the NHL

At least, I am pretty sure that is how it works and how I read it in the CBA

I think Nurse’s point totals would be pretty steady. He looks like he can develop into a pretty damn solid #2 and is already easily a great #3. Sure, an absolute stud LHD would be nice, but I’m struggling to name any that might be remotely available and Nurse’s ceiling is essentially exactly what we’d hope for Miller to be.

You don't have to declare anything, but yeah.

27 years old or 7 years in the NHL.
I like to think of players declaring it in a Michael Scott -esque way where they just saunter in to the building and yell "I DECLARE FREE AGENCY!!!"

Was just reading it was Calgary in the trade discussions for Taylor Hall ...Bennett and Hamonic and a conditional pick if he resigned . Wonder how that would look inserting CK into the deal for Rangers .

CGY is interesting, there is a NYR connection pretty high up in their org with Maloney.

Last year they refused to trade their first because they really wanted to draft Pelletier, but came out very disappointed at the trade deadline when they were outbid by other teams. They don't draft very well, and they have a penchant for trading picks.

IMO that team didn't look like they wanted to go on a long playoff run last year, and keeled over. I mean if you had a asshole coach, would you play for that guy without a paycheck for 2 months laying it all on the line to deal with that?

They're a much happier group and they are winning. The Pacific is winnable for them, they need to go on a run of getting points in every 5 out 8 the rest of the way. That's feasible.

But from the Rangers perspective, you have a barren crop to pick from because they aren't going to trade ELCs that can play in the NHL.

But picks... they haven't been shy about moving those.

I know this board has a lot of ire towards Howdie. I think his "fault" is that he's not man strong to play the game he's supposed to play. IMO he's a player that will become much better as he becomes stronger.

Look the kid came out the dub, physically looking like a geeky 20 year old. He hasn't filled out yet, and to me the Rangers & Prentice need to do what ever they can to beef him up to get him stronger and bigger.

You can make every excuse about how hard that is mid-season. It is, we get it. But if you missed the boat in the off-season, then you make up for it. If you're an organization with the means to be able to pull it off. You do it. Do what you should have done with Mat Bodie.

Filip put on mass and is a much more effective player. Howdie did not. Maybe he can't. Maybe he's a Colton Teubert who never filled out.

But I look at a guy in Vancouver who went through the same struggles and is not doing very well after becoming man-strong.

Jake Virtanen.
