Buch is not a $5 million player in a cap world. Not even close.
He’s a 40+ point player that is in his prime that plays in the top 6

How is he not worth 5 million?

That’s like saying Kreider wasn’t worth his current contract because he hadn’t hit more than 50 points at the time of signing

Which by the way Kreider’s contract at his cap hit % with today’s cap ceiling would be 5,167,100 per year

There’s countless other examples of players similar to Buch deserving 5 million a season

We'll see if he hits 40 this year. Most likely but he disappears for long periods of time.

Kreider ht 20 goals 2x before his current deal.

Using goals alone to determine if someone is worth certain money seems incredibly arbitrary

He’s also on pace for 48 points this season

It’s fine if you don’t like Buchnevich as a player. But to say he’s not worth whatever his next contract will be due to him not hitting 20 goals multiple times is strange

Especially considering among his peers it’s not even an outrageous cap hit for someone of his skills

Also circling back to the San Jose trade Larry threw out, I’d do Georgiev for Lebanc in a heartbeat

He’s 24 years old and scored 56 points last year which would have been 2nd on this team

Not going to get a much better offer than that

I'm an upgrade over Haley and I cannot even skate
I think if you are going to have a goon...get a big one . Steve MacIntyre just signed a deal in November in the FHL.....now that is the kind of weapon I want when we play the Islanders...we will see what Johnston will do then . MacIntyre also beat the living daylights out of the other guy....fight video is in the fight forum on here .

Am I the only who looks at Lebanc and can more or less take him or leave him?
I'm not the hugest fan of a Georgiev/Labanc swap right now, and I'm not entirely sold right now that I want to hand him his large contract extension this offseason.

No, I'm there with you. Plus the fact that he took a cheap deal to help the Sharks makes me worried about him looking to make up that value on his next contract.

I feel like he’s a nice player who can compliment higher-end players.

But I also feel like at this point I want the “Double D” aspect - dynamic and different. And if I can’t have both, I’d like at least one of those elements.

I either want legit, higher-end skill (dynamic), or I want a player who brings an element to this team that it is lacking (different). I don’t get a sense of either from Labanc.

I do think Labanc has some higher end skill, but like you said, I think he's a complimentary forward. I see him in the same vein as a guy like Buchnevich. A little streaky but can play with your top guys and produce, or he can be a decent contributor on your 3rd line.

I agree that if we're going to move Georgiev mid-season I'd want someone with a little more wow factor. No reason to settle when the worst case is that we have to shuttle Shesty for half a season to get him some spot starts in the NHL.

What if a player with that wow factor we all want isn’t available? A 50 point player in his mid 20’s wouldn’t be a bad haul.

I think that’s probably one of those scenarios where some would rather wait, and/or bring in someone different than what we already have have.

In other words, Labanc might not be everyone’s cup of tea for a player that entices us to make a move sooner rather than later.

Well at the end of the day you need to get the best deal you can. If the best deal is a guy like Labanc and the Rangers feel like they need to make the trade, then you gotta just realize that the market has spoken and you got what you got. However, right now the Rangers hold all of the cards and there's no real urgency to make a trade unless you get exactly what you want.

I’m in no rush to move Geo. If it were up to me, we’d run him and Shesty for a few years.

Just saying if Labanc is the best we can get for him, it’s not a bad return considering what we’ve seen goalies traded for.

Kreider ht 20 goals 2x before his current deal.

It depends on how many games he plays this year. He’s *never* had a season where he produced less than a 40-per-82 pace.

16-17: 40 per 82 (41 games)
17-18: 47 per 82 (74 games)
18-19: 48 per 82 (64 games)
19-20: 48 per 82 (32 games so far)

Players get paid for how they produce when they play, not for hitting arbitrary points/goals milestones based on GP. Buchnevich will get paid like a guy who is capable of putting up over 40 points in a full season, because he is that guy.

According to multiple sources, the Coyotes were not offering either of their last two first-round draft picks, centre Barrett Hayton (2018) and defenceman Victor Soderstrom (2019). Both are scheduled to play at the upcoming World Junior Championships. I had heard the two teams were haggling over another Team Canada player, 19-year-old Kevin Bahl from OHL Ottawa. He was drafted 55th in 2018 by the Coyotes.

I assume there is more to the package, but don’t know the details. It is believed, however, to be more of a futures-based offer. GM John Chayka would not comment on Sunday, but a couple of teams do think Arizona will go in a different direction if this continues too long without a resolution.

Since Saturday’s show, a few sources have reached out to suggest the Devils may have an offer or two that revolve around current roster players. We’re not talking about 30-year-olds at the end of their careers, but younger, established NHLers under team control. I’m lacking on particulars, but it indicates New Jersey GM Ray Shero must consider two different paths — a futures offer versus a “hockey trade” that can inject some talent right away. Or, can he work these proposals to do a little of both?

During the 31 Thoughts podcast from last week, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek were discussing Arizona and their new owner Alex Meruelo looking at making big moves. Elliotte mentioned Kreider with Arizona and how the Rangers and Arizona have made some big deals in the past. Yandle. Stepan.

The Devils have been offered established NHLers under control for Hall. Trochek. It looks like that report was correct. Trochek broke his ankle last season and he has a tough time regaining his previous form. Florida sheds the last two seasons left on the contract.

Arizona needs goals. They are on the best defensive teams in the NHL. Really good goaltending tandem. Kreider needs a change of scenery. Brett Cyrgalis made a big deal of Kreider getting two shifts in the finals 10:54 of 3rd period. Kreider played 11:04 total. Kreider is in a big funk.

I actually don't hate Buch at all. Been a huge supporter of his especially in years 1-3 when people were ready to drive him to the airport. But $5 million in a cap world for him? Nope.

Amazes me how so many people want to Re-Sign him. Crazy.

What does Labanc do for the Rangers? Where does he fit? Everyone likes him because he was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Staten Island. Big deal. The Rangers have Panarin and Kakko. Kravtsov will figure it out. Is Labanc a top six winger on a championship quality team? He had 17 goals last season. He is on pace for 19 this season. Nice player. 5-11 185. The Rangers can do better.

The path is he and Gorton come together on a deal that is beneficial to both parties and Krieder is as a part of the leadership group on the other side. Which means that it is probably Buch that gets dealt.

Again, just theoretical.

I REALLY don’t see that at this point, although I suppose anything is possible. I think it would have to take an unrealistic concession on CK’s part. I don’t think they have any intention of signing another winger - especially one who will be on the downside when this team is a contender, to a massive deal when he could easily be their 4 or 5th best winger in as little as 2-3 years. I’m also not sure where this idea is coming from that CK is this great leader. He’s a likable veteran for sure, but he’s so high in the pecking order then how come he’s not routinely wearing an A, yet Fast is?

What does Labanc do for the Rangers? He had 17 goals last season. He is on pace for 19 this season.

He also had 39 assists. 56 points. The only player that outscored him on our team last year was Zibad.

He has the same production as Buch this year. Outscoring Kreider too.

Again, everybody would like the possibility of getting a player with a higher ceiling, but that might just be wishful thinking for a goalie like Geo If our front office has made the decision to move him this season.
