I was okay with the idea of Buch to the Oilers when it involved us being able to draft Zegras. Not that enamored with their system now though. I'm still on the "Puljujarvi for the right price" train but I don't think that price should include Buch. Kreider maybe but not Buch.

While I dont disagree, I dont think you are getting that type of player for Georgiev.

Even LeBanc is a bit of an overpayment for a still unproven goalie.

As you well know, goalies do not have great value, so, If you can nail down a middle 6 winger with 2nd like potential, that's a great return

I would agree, I'm not getting said player straight up for Georgiev.

Having said that, I'd prefer to either package Georgiev to get a different return, or if we get a player like Labanc, I'd rather then move Buch to balance out the roster.

What I don't want to get caught with is an abundance of guys like Labanc and Buch and to a lesser extent Strome all on the same roster.

However, I think Georgiev, in the right package, might be able to get you something more than Labanc.

all due respect to labanc, he doesn't move the needle enough to make me want to move georgiev. The ideal scenario is still to find a way to come out of next year with a georgiev/shesty tandem. If that isn't possible, I don't want to move georgiev before shesty has seen the NHL unless I'm completely blown away

Lindgren is a player I'd throw in that I think GMs would buy higher on than most. Don't think he's tradeable solo, but as an addition to Kreider/Strome/Georgiev...I think so.

He's a bottom pairing D and they are easily replaceable in FA.

I have my doubts about Labanc. As others have mentioned, I’m not getting a real difference-making vibe from him, and that’s what we should be looking for (though that “difference” could be speed, size, physicality, etc. and not necessarily scoring) in building a core. So, at this point, I’d rather be looking at younger guys/prospects who can bring those elements in deals — and then look to fill in the “competent all-around depth” once the core is built and they’ve started pushing to contend.

As for Buch moving, ever since @Edge brought up there possibility of EDM in the off-season, it’s just made too much sense to me not to happen. They need guys under team control who can play with McDavid and Draisaitl, and that is Buch to a T. He’d likely be a PPG player with those guys. (And I think he’d probably also benefit from playing in a much smaller pond.)

As to what they might offer in return, however... that’s where I get hung up. I feel like the only prospects we’d want are guys they wouldn’t surrender, so we’d be looking at a deal that revolves around draft picks again. Also, they canNOT move him without acquiring his replacement on the big club either in this deal or others; the team’s depth on the wing is simply too thin.

This last wave of moves at the TDL and over the summer is going to be fascinating...

It's really that third paragraph that's been problematic with certain guys. It's not for lack of interest in some of our players, it's finding teams who are willing to give up something of interest to the Rangers.

What you just described is actually a significant challenge for Edmonton, and to a lesser extent Colorado. There are guys they are interested in from multiple, and that's all well and good. But they've done such a poor job of drafting outside the first round, that they really don't have a ton of guys that are going to be of interest to other teams. So at some point, Edmonton and Colorado are going to have make some tough decisions: do they continue to sit back and ride with what they have and hope it's enough? Or do they start to move guys that they're significantly less comfortable moving?

Especially for Edmonton, they don't have a ton to work with if they want to play ball.

Are people interestd in Labanc because of the player he is, or because he's from NY?

I think they like him because he's seen as good value for a goalie.

Personally, I don't think he brings anything we don't already have on the right side, and I have some concerns about his next contract and whether he's a player on the cusp of 60 points, or more in the 40-50 range.

Also, we need just one more superstar, think about it if we can get a team like the penguins had in those two back to bsck cup years. They had letang, kessel, sid the kid, and the Russian (evgeni malkin). We have panarin, mika, kakko, and trouba/fox. We are forgetting patience because kakko isnt going to tear up the league this season, he might in the second half, but hes still learning. Kreider is gone, i would mix it in with a two way player, we need someone to stay back a bit. Too often are we trapped in our zone and it seems like any time staal clears the zone, itll be an icing or right back to their defenseman and the cycle restarts. Pb ie a third liner, always was, and he doesnt freaking smile! Kreider was never a 1lw, just we didnt have anyone else really, now we have panarin. We need a lw to replace him, labanc would fit the bill imo, and now we just need to find a 2rw or a 1rw. If we make the playoffs with this team, just imagine what will happen when we fill out those pieces. Also! Need a 1left handed two way-capable of shutting down top lines- d and then we Gucci. I still dont understand our d system though. I feel like it just isnt effective, but some of it can be attributed to us not being able to cut the other teams momentum for like a whole period.

You have to be selctive with the cap restrictions, you cant have everyone be a superstar ala the bruins and their one line team, they have depth but their top line are their stats

If I hear another variation of...

"Well, Buchnevich is almost a 50 point guy and that's worth 5M per.."

I'm going to lose my mind.

Does 89 have some talent? You bet. So did Zherdev.

I want him off this team at any cost. Addition by subtraction. I loathe him. You're either with me or against me on this. If you're against me, I guarantee we will not agree on much. I've found this to be a hard line. You're either a Buchnevich guy or you aren't...

and FWIW...I'm going to tag the handful of guys that I think are on the same page with me on most all here...

@egelband @Edge @Brooklyn Rangers Fan @CasusBelli @wafflepadsave @Kovalev27 @SnowblindNYR @NYRangers16

I don't despise Buchnevich, and he fills a role now that we don't have a replacement for. However, I don't know if I see him as a long-term piece of this team. I think at some point, we probably get a guy who is less offensive-oriented, and probably a little more rounded as a player for that third line RW slot.

If the right deal is on the table, I don't have much heartburn about moving him.

Neither do I .... but I am absolutely certain he has no future here.

The only must trade right now outside of the obvious Staal and Smith dream trade is Kreider. I dont want to be married to this guy for another 5-7 years. Send him to Colorado, Arizona or Edmonton. Arizona might like him as he would be an instant fit with Stepan.

The problem with Buch will be the next contract. At some point before he’s due in 2 years for what will be a big raise I think you replace him with cheaper player that probably brings a little physicality in more of a 2 way game.

Im not saying 99 routinely turned down great shooting opportunities, but yes, it does mean that. He’s one of the greatest playmakers in NHL history. He wasn’t just winging the puck on net every time he had a lane on net. What you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. You’re saying he never turned down a shooting opportunity to make a great pass? I guess he took the shot every time he had the puck on a 2-1, or had a shooting lane on a PP.
He is also the greatest goal scorer in history.

Are we really going to debate that the context of the quote was to shoot the puck as opposed to passing on the opportunity?

I REALLY don’t see that at this point, although I suppose anything is possible. I think it would have to take an unrealistic concession on CK’s part. I don’t think they have any intention of signing another winger - especially one who will be on the downside when this team is a contender, to a massive deal when he could easily be their 4 or 5th best winger in as little as 2-3 years. I’m also not sure where this idea is coming from that CK is this great leader. He’s a likable veteran for sure, but he’s so high in the pecking order then how come he’s not routinely wearing an A, yet Fast is?
I do not think that it would take a ridiculous concession, but it would take a concession. Like I said, I think that it all depends on how much being here matters to him. If he were to do a 5 year deal at something between $6 & 7, that may be enough. Especially if there is demand for Buchnevich or if including him in a deal makes sense. But then there's the fact that after Hall is moved, Krieder becomes the best available forward. For a team that lacks depth scoring and wants a proven playoff performer, that can mean a good return and one that Gorton may not be willing to give up on. Too many variables in play and too many dominoes need to fall first. Guess we will all find out over the next several months.

If Buch goes, then I am guessing that is a sign that Kreider is staying.

Why would be be replacing Lindgren? A 21 year old rookie that looks to have 2nd pairing upside and can steady a defense? If it were that easy, how is it that there has not been a player like this in the franchise in so many years?

I do wonder a little bit about what a Buchnevich and Georgiev package would fetch.

Would have to think Edmonton would be really excited about it, but unless Bouchard is on the table, they don't really have the pieces to even get the conversation going.

Maybe the Leafs would listen on Nylander for those two if they think Georgie is a future #1 who can take over from Andersson, thus saving them some money in the summer of 2021.

Carolina might be a bidder, but again I don't know if they have the pieces the Rangers would want.

I just don't see it.

Rather, I see Kreider going at the TDL for a traditional sell-off and Buch – if he moves – going over the summer in more of a hockey trade.
I cannot see them both being moved. The Rangers would be hard pressed to give up that much depth scoring. Unless of course, they suddenly see Strome as a possible solution.

Well, again, my view is that Kreider goes for a Nash/Hayes like trade, trusting to the depth in the org (or an acquired young player stepping up to play a bigger role, as Lemieux did last year). And Buchnevich – if he goes – I see going in the summer, in which case it'll happen in the context of 5-7 other offseason moves (including both trade and FA) that'll shore up the missing depth.

Some media predictions. The salary cap should go up by a significant number. The current NBC deal ends after the 21-22 season. Another NHL team in Seattle starting in 21-22.

NHL Signs With ESPN And NBC

The NHL will split its package between ESPN and NBC in deals that will pay it $600 million, a significant bump from the league’s current annual average value of $200 million. Amazon will make a play for a package of digital rights to live games, but the NHL will decide to tie its digital play to ESPN+ instead.

The Rangers and Knicks should get a huge rights fee from the buyer of the network. The Yankees owned YES and they sold it. The buyer paid them a huge rights fee for the Yankees games. The Yankees repurchased the network earlier this year.

Dolan Sells MSG Network

Looking to get out of the channel-owning business, Jim Dolan will sell MSG Network to the same consortium that owns YES Network — the Yankees, Sinclair and Amazon.

I think if you're talking about the Leafs, there could be an interest in a number of guys --- including Georgiev and Skjei. However, if they talk Nylander, don't be too surprised if Kravtsov is part of the asking price and not an automatic "no" from the Rangers.

Edmonton, even with a willingness to move Bouchard, is probably not the Rangers preferred approach. The Rangers like Benson, but not as a centerpiece player. I think they'd love to get Broberg, but that price would be too rich for Edmonton.
