I would dangle:

Kreider
Strome (his value will never be higher)
Skjei
Fast
Staal
Smith
Gropp

And may as well see what a team will offer for Lias Andersson since he's never getting any ice-time, but the objective should be to get younger and clear salary. They need to extend DeAngelo and Lemieux in the offseason.
Gropp doesn’t get you a roll of tape.

OK...what about a deal like this?

Brady Skeji to Minnesota for Jonas Brodin and Ryan Donato. Rangers throw in a third. Skeji gets to go home and is under team control for several years. He would benefit from a change of scenery. Brodin is a dependable veteran defenseman with a year and a half to run on his contract. Helps expansion draft planning. Donato has offensive upside.

Thoughts?
Yes.

This is what I would like to see. Sell Kreider, Strome, Skjei, Geo and Fast.

1. Go after Pulju, I think they would have interest in Fast. Give up a couple of picks, with conditions. Our 3rd this year and a conditional 2nd next season if Pulju performs. Otherwise it should be a 4th max.

2. Move Skjei for the JT Miller return. Like to MTL for their 1st and Chi’s 2nd.

3. Kreider for a 1st and a prospect.

4. See what you can get for Strome and Geo. A 1st? Great. Otherwise, take what you can get. Work with conditions etc.

Run with:
Lemieux-Ziba-Kakko
Panarin-Lias-Pulju
Howden-Chytil-Buch
McKegg-Boo-Gettinger
Lindgren-Trouba
Hajak-Fox
Staal-TDA
Hank
Shesty

Three 1st round picks in 2020. At least a couple of 2nd and 3rds each. Keep restocking the farm.

Why? This is good value management. Panarin would certainly lift Pulju. I’ve watched him in Europe. Those two would work well together. Lias gets a role that suits him. He would grow well and build up value. I like to see Howden in a winger role for a while — get to play a little more free role with offensive talents. That would help him. Lemieux would do well on that 1st. Create havoc for Ziba and Kakko.

I think Gorton’s flaws are fairly significant. He is making some big mistakes, and get a pass for most of them since he isn’t held accountable for his contract management.

But, I definitely think he excels at working the phones. Hence, give him ammo to work with. You get that with the above moves. Not only in terms of draft picks — but especially the kids mentioned, in these roles their value would certainly go up a lot.

First, I REALLY dislike these lines you put together and maybe a part of it is you moved a bit too much out of the roster for picks. Maybe keep Strome? But c’mon Lias and JP on the second line? Lemieux on first while there are still questions about Kakko readiness?

The lineup you presented seems destined yet for another lottery after 20-21. I don’t know maybe this looks better because my gut tells me that one player (like Strome) can’t have this much of an impact.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Kakko
Lemieux - Chytil - Buchnevich
Andersson - Howden (Strome) - JP
Barron - Nieves - Smith

It might be good value management but if you could make all these deals (unlikely), you would be left with a roster so young they would need someone around to buy the beer. The last thing you want is a very young overmatched team that loses too many games.

Overall it really depends on what we could flip Brodin for, but I expect more in a return for Skjei. One of the most valuable things for us about Skjei's contract is that it is for term and lacking any protections. A team that cant sign players for term without overpaying them would give more to get that contract. Because of that, I don't know if Minnesota is our best trade partner.
I’m not including Brodin to flip him (perhaps until next year’s deadline) I would want him to help stabilize a very young defense.

Lundqvist has started ten games this season. He has a save % of below 90% in half of those starts. .905 is his save % which good for 31st overall. His GAA is 3.54 which is 46th overall. 46 out of 50. Lundqvist has had his good moments. You look at his overall numbers and we know who should the odd man out of the Rangers goaltending situation. It would be a shame if the Rangers traded Georgiev because they didn't want to make a decision on Lundqvist. Henrik will be 38 in March and has one year remaining on his contract. He is not 30 years old with a 3-4 quality seasons remaining. I bring up 30 because he won the Vezina at 30 in 2012. If you a senior member of Rangers tank nation where you believe another top 5 pick in 2020 will serve the Rangers better down the road, you want Lundqvist to play a significant amount of games this season. Sending down Georgiev for Shesterkin sees the best goaltender on the Rangers right now in the AHL.

The Rangers trade Georgiev to play Shesterkin and then the Rangers will be looking for another goaltender in 21-22 to share the net with Shesterkin. The people in the media think Lundqvist will play forever. If you look at his numbers this season,Hank is on the back nine of his career. He will have his good moments this season like his back to back starts against Detroit and Carolina. I thought Sam Rosen was going to pass out in the Carolina game talking about Lundqvist.

The Connolly goal last night went right through him. The 2nd Dadonov goal. Lundqvist was late getting across. That is happening more and more.

Lundqvist should do everyone a favor and just retire this season. Take the wife and kids back to Sweden. He will be 38 years old. The Rangers are moving into a different detection.

100% totally agree.

Have the "Come to Jesus" talk with him this summer and tell him thanks for the memories but he's 3rd on the depth chart. Either waive the NMC or retire from the NHL and go play for Frolunda for the last playing years of his career. Go out with some class and dignity. Tell him there's a team ambassador position with his name on it whenever he wants it and that the jersey retirement will be done whenever he wants it.

The fans will still love him and the Rangers will have some cap space to absorb the millions in dead cap from all of the buyouts they have on the books. Win/win.

I can see him retiring after this season. He's hyper competitive and if his play continues like this I think he calls it quits.

He's had an amazing career. He either gets a role in the Rangers organization or he goes back to Sweden to raise his family/may br play 2 more years there to get one more shot at another Olympic medal.

I also think Shesh should get the full season in the AHL, with potentially a call up towards the end of the season. Playing with this dumpster fire of a defense will not help him. Get his reps in the A. Georgiev and Shesh can battle it out in September.

Last night was a game we should have won. Hank was awful. He’s been awful at worst average at best with a few bright spots sprinkled in but I mean almost 38 years old and a smaller goalie that’s relied on other worldly reflexes and speed to be who he is. See Jonathan quick going thru the same. Just not the speed and quickness at their size that they used to have. Hanks very much done. On a good night he can turn back the clock but those are fewer and farther between. He’s hurting his career numbers now. I really hope he retires this summer but I highly doubt his ego let’s him. I think he thinks he can play another 3 or 4 years.

The goalie numbers are indicative of the team that's playing in front of them - especially a team that's fielding 7 guys 21 & under.

You can't say how bad/old/justretire Lundqvist is with his .905 Save % and then talk about how Georgiev is the goalie of the future, pass the baton, trade him for a first rounder and his save % is .906

The truth is that this is a young team that's making major defensive mistakes, taking the most penalties in the league, has a horrendous PK, gives up the most high-danger chances in the league and some of you are STILL blaming the goalie. It's really quite remarkable how long this has gone on around here.

Goalies aren't the issue. Either of them. It really never has been.

Here's a scenario, the Sabres are a bubble team by the TDL. Let's say their pick winds up around 13-20. They'll give up the pick for Strome but they attach Okposo at 50%

Why trade Strome. He’s playing very well and only 26. You need a mix of ages on a successful team. He plays well with Breadman.

Unless Hendrik wants out, and I doubt it, the trade talk is moot. Fugetaaaboutit
Also this is the tough times to stay patient.
This team is learning and developing.
We need to shed contracts ie Smith Staal Hank.
Keep drafting well and stay the course.
I would do whatever is available trade wise with Kreider and the older players if possible to keep acquiring assets
Let it continue to play out and hopefully
We start moving up by year 3 of KK tenure here. Yield for any field won’t hurt us one bit. As long as the effort is there. Patience!
LGR!

I get what you mean, and you could of course not get to those lines over night, starting tomorrow.

At the same time, I do think it’s steps in the right direction and that they should be taken over time.

Hank was not great last night. Bob was and that was seemingly the difference.

But the other severe issue is our in zone defensive play. It is a horror show. Once teams start moving around in our zone its all over, a field day of wide open looks with defenders 5-10 feet away. Teams start cycling and switching and our players become confused cones. If it was a few players struggling that would be on them, but when its the whole team, every line, and its happened for the 3 straight years, the common denominator is the Coaching Staff. This happened under AV, so it has to be Lindy f***ing Ruff. Its time to gtfo. Get a real defensive coach.

Go look at the Islanders under Trotz. Trotz has made the most out of his very average roster and turned them into a defensive juggernaut. Hartford is having an incredible season under Knoblauch and his staff. Good coaching matters.

Fire Ruff.
