Edit: PS: they can't bring Kaiser back, can they? He's a liability. I think it would be wise to move on from Strohack as well. His act has gotten old.
They definitely shouldn't. Cameron, Ula, Gowan, Ladds is a good start, build around them with other guys who play hockey, not sideshow clowns (Matejicek is good too, I just don't see him back as an OA).

I don't get why Bowen still seems to be #1 in the rotation either, Rye has been better by any metric and Bowen hasn't really progressed at all. He has basically identical stats (3.79 GAA, .896 save %) as he did last year and a 7-22 record.

Rye meanwhile is younger and has 3.44/.907/9-14

Strohack,Jenken and Addy trades have all been major disappointments
Yep. Throw in Bryant and Stonehouse as well (fine players but they could have finished last overall with any combination of Sztuska, Melee, Lefebvre, McIntyre) and they've really wasted a ton of assets this last calendar year with basically nothing show for it.

I understand the mindset of bringing in veteran guys but to give up picks like that as a last place team in the league is bad assets management. None of the other bottom teams in the ohl moved around overagers for picks like the petes did and I can’t remember a time before where bottom teams have done it if anything they sell off their OA’s

Hopefully things turn around, but right now it doesn't look like Oke did very well in any of the trades made the past year or so. Young has at least shown some flashes, but nobody else has.

Well the vibe on this Petes thread is at an all-time high in terms of negativity and criticism of teenagers. It's a development league and these kids get better with icetime. Kaiser is 18 years old and six foot seven so chances are his brain hasn't caught up to his body yet.

Having said that , yeah should he be always looking for fights? Maybe not but the coaching staff should be on top of that so don't put all that on this kid. As for Marentette he just turned 18 and his effort has been there. He shouldn't be looking for fights with the cage on but at least he's engaged in games. The skill will come like it did with other kids who improved with time like Konnor Smith, Chase Lefebvre, Braydon McCallum, etc.

Wilson and company have always prioritized physical players with a defense first focus so this Petes team is by design. It would be nice to see the 17 year olds pick it up offensively but offensive systems are not a focus for this team and these kids aren't building confidence unfortunately. Oddly, at 16, Fitzgerald is an exception to this trend with his consistent goal production and creativity with the puck..

Hopefully we pull it together next year.

Melee missing from the lineup tonight, would assume the injury is on the minor side as the last thing that happened with him was getting headlocked and hauled down before getting thrown out.
Has anyone seen anything for the timeline on Addy?

He's been suspended by the OHL "pending review", just saw on Twitter.
Have to assume something was said. Won't be surprised if it's over the base 2 though if that's the case.

Feels like Addy has been MIA for a while now but still sounds like a nagging back injury for him

I think the big issue is, as you mentioned, the coaching/management. Isn't it their job to guide these kids and teach them? They just let them get away with anything on the ice and there is no punishment unless the league gets involved. There's also very little development happening with these players. The same things over and over. Yes, they're kids, but there are adults who are paid to do a job and this season it sure seems like that isn't happening.

Generally I think Oke has made good decisions and trades, but this year has been a mess. They traded for all these young prospects and there's been little to no improvement. Did the scouts get it wrong? Fitzgerald stepped right in and has been very good, so it's not like a young guy can't come in and make an impact, even on a team that focuses on defence/grinding. Is it the coaching that can't develop these talents?

The mess they've made of the OA situation, combined with the awful team and lack of bright spots (aside from Fitzgerald) make it tough to have any optimism. I put the blame on coaching/management much more than the kids who are playing. They need some leadership and there seems to be none of that this year. And it's very tough, even as a diehard fan/season ticket holder, to get excited about several more years of Rob Wilson hockey. I know, I know, they won a title with his system, but that was because of the abundance of talent Oke brought in, not Wilson's coaching. These games are painful to watch and there's absolutely no progress being made. Hopefully some signs of improvement show next season.

I have to agree, very messy decisions all year. Not much in terms of leadership and coaching. I certainly don’t blame the players with the exception of a few who are Just plain lazy and put in minimal effort at best. The tough guy crap is all to impress the coach who seems to live by the theory if we can’t beat with skill then will at least beat them in penalty minutes. I don’t see why any offensive player would want to come play here under this coaching style. Majority of these kids were all leading scores on their previous teams prior to arriving here only to have their numbers plummet playing this boring BS style that these guys choose to play. Feel sorry for anyone getting drafted here in the next six years

I agree completely. And I know I can be harsh on the kids sometimes, and I try not to be. They're kids. The only time I think it's fair is when there's a lack of effort involved. There's a few of those this season. The kids who get carried away with penalties, that's understandable. What isn't understandable is why the coach does nothing about it. Let them keep doing and keep getting the same ice time and they'll learn nothing. Just like certain players who put no effort in yet keep getting ice time and PP time. It all comes back to the lack of coaching and leadership.

Anyone in house in Brantford to see what happened with McCallum/Crombie? Unless I missed it they never showed on the broadcast, looked like Crombie was trying pretty hard to get at McCallum, but McCallum gets the game?

As an observation, Monette and Nichol keep their 100% of Petes games this season having a Petes player being thrown out of the game.

It was so weird that McCallum gets the game misconduct, but no extra 2? I didn't see what started it all, but the bench seemed upset at McCallum.

Yeah, certainly a weird one. Can't imagine Instigated upon fight and game misconduct are common together. Especially when the other player doesn't get the game as well. :dunno:

Guy behind me said McCallum got it for hair pulling, BUT I have zero idea on the validity of that.

Odd, obviously not there, but for that to be a game the rule specifies that there's an injury from it.

Been a wild week for the Petes team.
I wouldn't put a dime on the opinion of the guy saying this, so huge grain of salt.

Petes are hanging around. Pop one on this major to start the 3rd and it gets tight.
