Sometime in the next 6-8 weeks, I expect the Rangers will recall the Czar and give him a couple of games. I think that was always in the plan. Reason #1...get a good first hand look. Reason #2...get Henrik thinking. He can count. If he clearly sees the handwriting on the wall, perhaps he would have some interest in that trade deadline move to a real contender. Remember this, Henrik saves some of his best games for Carolina.

I’m sure Hank has seen reports on Shesterkin from Russia and recently from Hartford. He knows what the Rangers have in Georgiev and Shesterkin. Not difficult to see things objectively, not subjectively from his own perspective as the icon.

not sure he's ever going to see the handwritting on the wall. JD supposedly was going to have an honest conversation with him. Maybe another is needed.

I still dont get how Matt Beleskey wasnt even at NYR camp and yet Haley was given every shot to make the team. Beleskey is the better player in the same type of role.

because they couldn't risk beleskey getting hurt and not being able to bury his contract...now that we unloaded names' contract there is enough wiggle room that you could call him up, assuming you opted to first not call up the 6 forwards in hartford that are better and cheaper that could be called up.

The optics on a Lundqvist buyout would be really bad. Leetch trade kind of bad. Hank is here until he decides otherwise. I don't think Shesty banging on the door is going to make him opt for retirement.

Does anyone else think Lias is going to be our future Jesper Fast? I can’t see him being a center in our future when we have Mika and Chytil along with Karl Henriksson and Morgan Barron looking pretty good. And that’s without taking into account the possibility of drafting a 2020 lottery pick

I wonder if the Brooks article was a leak from the front office to prep the fans, and maybe the involved players, of the impending move.

Don't really understand why Lundqvist is the focal point for the fans though. It's not like he is undermining a cup run or ruining their chances. He has clauses and they are rebuilding. Hank is pretty much the last thing to be concerned about.

This defensive system is a concern. The poor play by the vets is a concern.

I'd settle for an NHL player from Lias at this point.

Exactly. Hank is never going to be elite like he once was, but if we had a working defensive structure in front of him, he would probably play very well for someone his age.

The Rangers trade Georgiev to play Shesterkin and then the Rangers will be looking for another goaltender in 21-22 to share the net with Shesterkin. .

Yeah- one of Huska or Wall. I thought we were all on board with this.

He looked like a solid bottom 6 player in the preseason. I just wish he could get a chance playing with someone other than smith and mckegg/Haley, or get ice team in Hartford to prove what he’s capable of (or if he’s actually a complete bust).

I want him to get a chance too but he's pathetically incompetent at pretty much everything right now and I don't see how giving him more minutes remedies that.

I must be the only one who doesn't believe that the players he's playing within are holding him back.

OK...what about a deal like this?

Brady Skeji to Minnesota for Jonas Brodin and Ryan Donato. Rangers throw in a third. Skeji gets to go home and is under team control for several years. He would benefit from a change of scenery. Brodin is a dependable veteran defenseman with a year and a half to run on his contract. Helps expansion draft planning. Donato has offensive upside.

Thoughts?
Surprised this isn’t getting more responses. It’s a clever concept if nothing else.

How did Pirri clear waivers? I don’t understand this league sometimes.

I agree. I would be perfectly happy with him being sent down. Playing him three minutes in a game hurts both the team and Lias. I personally think boo Nieves should be called up for that 4C spot

Look, Ill just come out and say it. Any fan that is looking to push Lundqvist out the door -- particularly considering the factors that the team is in a rebuild, what he's been to this franchise, and him not being too bad at 37 -- is an idiot.

I don’t believe precisely that, I just believe it’s giving him a more difficult avenue through which he needs to prove himself. I’d rather him get ice time in Hartford then move up in the lineup

People keep saying lias looked good in preseason. Yes against minor leaguer and nhlers going half speed. Soon as the pace ramped up he was way out of his element. Happened last year too. He cannot play at this pace. Not yet at least. I don’t understand the hesitation to send him down. Plenty of guys drafted in that range are in the minors still. Send him down

The Rangers are painfully thin at center, and are dealing with a couple of injuries. He'll be down very very soon I think. They have to.

that argument would be valid if he was actually playing. If they wanted to send lias down I’m sure they could find someone else to play 3:55 on the 4th line

It's not rushing. Rushing is a 19-year-old Dan Blackburn forced to be the starter. A cup of coffee for him is fine. He deserves it. If he gets 5-7 games in this year nothing wrong with that.
Cup of coffee should happen at the end of the season. Bringing him up right now is rushing.

What's the mystery here? He's a fringe NHL player. His only NHL caliber skill is his shot. At age 28, teams have given up on the idea that he can be more than that.

If sending Lias down to Hartford was a prime consideration - he’d be there already with either Nieves or Fogarty taking his spot. I’m honestly flabbergasted at the insistence to keep him playing single digits on the forth line. I have no doubt that the front office has the organizational needs as the utmost priority and no one holds grudges or want to harm prospects development per se. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they are trying to build an image of a recent top-10 pick already playing in his 2nd NHL season still ahead of most of his peers.

Would be a great if he became another Fast at this point.

If Beleskey was hurt at NYR camp, they would have had to carry him on the regular season roster at full value. At the time $ were at a premium.
