LMAO JD smoothing things over likely helped a bit, but LA sees our stacked LW and realized if he can even make it to only the 3rd line he'd be playing with, at worst, an all star LW. He's starting to realize earning his way up might be more worthwhile than he thought at first. Whatever the reason, glad to hear him say something overtly positive about his future with the team, great news!
f*** it. I’d rather run Chytil and Lias than sign Strome to anything over his QO

Would anyone be against bringing Brassard back on a short 2 year deal for depth?

Is he still a fulltime NHL center though? His average time on ice during the regular season was only 13:42, and it's been 12:33 during the playoffs. According to the NYI board's GDT he isn't even playing center currently.

I was looking through potential low-price UFA centers for Lafreniere, and I passed on Brassard for those reasons. But if he is still an NHL-quality center then sure. I just want a stopgap center for Laf.

Lias wouldn't have played in the play-in games anyways.

Let's just have a fresh start next training camp and, if he deserves it, give him Howden's minutes and role on the PK.

My logic is, that if Strome is gone, and Chytil is still experiencing growing pains, Brassard could be the 2-3C. He would definitely be centering either Panarin or Laf, which I could see Panarin rejuvenating his career.

I think Granlund would only really be an option if he took a one or two year deal to try and pump up his value and the Rangers dealt Buchnevich and he was the replacement. Great playmaker from the wing, wouldn't hurt to have another Finn to make Kakko comfortable, but he's not a center in the NHL.

Someone will give him a better deal than that on the open market.
I think it's possible he could take a short term deal, how many teams are really going to be able to afford to give him a long term deal. This being predicated on Hank either retiring or trading a significant portion of his salary. I could definitely see him getting a 1 or 2 year offer from the Rangers, and then they use Buch to get a LD or Center depending on what happens with Strome

five teams in four seasons since we traded him. Why hasn't he stuck anywhere?

RE: Howden v Lias:

There has got to be a redo of that scenario. Unless Lias shagged Mrs . Quinn it wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

It was the common belief that teams couldn't combine to retain for than 50% for a long time, then someone did it and we were all just like OK.

Another example would be the Brassard deal that landed him in Pittsburgh from Ottawa. Vegas ate money on Brassard so Pitt could fit him under their cap. Pitt sent Reaves to Vegas as payment for their cap space.

Yeah in terms of a fill-in with upside he's a really nice option. If the Rangers moved Buch/ADA for LD and center help, it would make sense to explore it. If he meshes well you could get 65 points out of him and he's a great buffer until Kravtsov is ready. Not sure if he's the kind of player the team wants to add though, even if he's a tremendously gifted offensive guy.

I think a team will offer up at least 4 years for him. There's enough rebound potential that it someone will take the risk. I can't see the Rangers investing more than 2 in him, assuming they think Kravtsov is NHL bound sooner rather than later.

This is becoming the Strome Derangement Syndrome.

Chytil has shown NOTHING that indicated he can handle the role. And Andersson? Really?

Chytil is trending in the right direction. next season is going to be the most important season in his development which is why it might be prudent to leave the 2C slot open for him to win.
With cap coming off the books after next year, then it can be addressed if need be.
That being said, Strome on the QO is the ideal situation.

I’ve always thought this thread was the dumbest thread on HFNYR, but if the next two months are just going to be trade proposals for the #1OA it’ll have really jumped the shark in how dumb it is.

Or how we are gonna add a 8 million player or 35 year old center.

Don’t mind debating any trades but when it comes to ADA it’s a joke. He’s treated as a throw in. It would be best to not include him on any trade on the main boards

He's overrated here and underrated on the main bored, his value is in the middle of that.

How much do you think Mikael Granlund will cost?

If we can get him for 3.5m for 1 year, I'd be all over that. It can be an "earn it" contract knowing we have 24m coming off the books in 2021. Granlund has played on the wing in Nashville but he's a natural center

Strome is not going to sign for his qualifier, he is arbitration eligible.

Rangers will qualify him

From there what I think they should do, Let him file for arbitration. Keep the trade option open.

Eventually not too long before the arbitration date, if he is not already moved, offer him a one year deal at about what he'd likely get by going through with arbitration.

If he signs it he does

If not go through with arbitration. Any award can only be for one year anyway.

What is the worst that can happen? Arbitration for some reason comes in stupid high for that one year deal, Rangers can decide to sign it or walk away leaving Strome a UFA.

More likely, arbitration awards him a similar 1 year deal to the deal the Rangers already offered.

Best case, arbitration comes in lower than whatever the Rangers already offered.

I ran some numbers, it’s absolutely feasible that we can do Cirelli at say 6 mil if we do one or more of things regarding Hank, Strome, ADA, Buch, Smith, Staal.

by the way, didn’t get to say that I enjoy your contributions being that you were in the hockey business. Was gonna mention that after the Dunlap post but the thread was renewed.
You are going to have to do some of these things just to make the current roster fit. This would entail a lot of things with no guarantee that Tampa wouldn't match. Knowing Tampa, they probably have a plan in place to address these possibilities.

Thanks for the shout out on the minor league stuff. It was so much fun and I have some incredible stories. Best of all, I have some friends for life, a few of whom still feed me stuff to post. That first trade was real special to me largely because it worked out real well.
