HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

Probably.

But then there's issues in 2-3 years where you're paying someone to probably take Monahan.

Habs need Calgary's 1st so they can add another solid piece to the prospect pool and have that nice prospect to dangle in a trade in 2 years when there's a big piece available that's too old for a rebuild, but fits perfectly with a team whose windows just opened or is about to be fully opened.

In 2-3 years he's probably still almost a PPG player and only 32-33 years old.. Look at Crosby right now, come on dude, Monahan is aging like fine wine.

Crosby is a generational player.

Monahan at 5.5, or whatever it is wouldn't be an issue because of the cap going up and him likely still producing at a fair clip, but he's taking up a roster spot where younger players should be able to fill in by then.

That's the issue.

True and Crosby is also 37 and will probably still be PPG at 40. Monahan is 30 years old. I wouldn't worry about his age. Hugo made a mistake imo.
We could of dumped one of Dvorak, Armia, Evans instead. He was the best 2C we've had since Plekanec. With Monahan on this team we are probably comfortably in the playoffs this year. Instead we will likely miss. Missing the playoffs is boring.

Should have dumped Dvorak.

Monahan is better at the only thing Dvorak does well.

He is a glass body. They moved him early and probably breathed a sigh of relief.

He played a full 82 games last season. And his first 7 seasons he barely missed any games. He's defensively sound and PPG this season, but he did miss some games. Still a WAY BETTER gamble then Jake Evans. He was a game changer for us, he fit like a glove right from his 1st game. He's an elite 2C. We fumbled.

The trade was good. We had to re-sign him in free agency.
