There is a lot of science when it comes to the human body especially when we are talking about making changes and or maintaining the current body structure. Which is why there is school for it lol. But yeah I definitely agree. What is mainstream today is just shut bullshit and may have "instant results" will most definitely hurt your body in the long run.

I've had the privilege of becoming close to a lot of the trainers in the NHL. (Mainly because of the results im producing with my clients.) And I've had a few pro athletes reach out to me to train them. And what I've seen from the pro trainers is what I was taught in school.. Science science and more science lol.
There's a difference between science and results in the gym. I've trained and learned from Ben Prentiss and colleagues of his level. Way different than your typical S&C coach. Send me studies I would love to see. You have to be aware of how they are conducted.

I will use myself as anecdotal evidence. At age 31 I sit anywhere from 204-208. I am MUCH faster now than when I played football and baseball at 185, 190 and 195 from mid 20s to 30.
I trained a long jumper/triple jumper last year who was about 150 lbs...weight didn't change but he got way leaner (and he was lean already) MUCH stronger. Able to squat 2x body weight ATG. He made it to states while PRing every competition leading up to it and lost to guys double his size. They had much more power and a bigger engine. You cannot get faster by getting weaker and smaller, which is what you are saying. Getting stronger in the weight room is how you get faster, not aerobic exercise or ladder drills.
I have a few younger kids I train for hockey even just 1x a week weight training they got bigger and leaner and everyone started noticing them on the ice whether it was skating faster or hitting guys.

Check out Gary Roberts' story and how he revived his career. He got stronger. Look at Olympic sprinters.

You have to ask yourself...do these guys(scientists/coaches) actually produce measurable results or do they hide behind the "science."

Oh, I can imagine.

It's more that I see the political spectrum shifting even more from the economic arena to the cultural one- i.e., one's opinion on immigration, flags, life in general is a stronger driver of partisanship nowadays than perceived economic self-interest. I'm not a full 'what's the matter with kansas' subscriber but noneconomic factors are huge now.

Your position on kneeling for the anthem now matters more than your position on income tax distribution or social security.

Considering the majority of NHL players aren't American, the national anthem is a non issue with the NHL. LOL.
Doc Emerick- "Look at these starting lineups kneeling for the American national anthem, Pierre. 2 Swedes, 4 Canadians, 3 Russians, 1 Fin, and 2 Czech guys are kneeling for the anthem."
Pierre McGuire- "yeah Doc, and all the players on the bench are standing because there isn't any room to kneel. I've noticed there haven't been many Americans in the starting lineups this year. Quite peculiar."
Doc - "and now they're all standing for the rendition of 'Oh Canada'. Powerfull stuff Pierre"
Pierre - "So powerful Doc! These are special times!"

Alright ladies and gentlemen, mayhaps we are getting too political and off topic now.
Time to veer this thread back to preposterous trade proposals and petty disagreements over perceived poor asset management.

To trade or not to trade? That is the question.

Do you think intelligence is acquired through learning and experience, or do you think it is innate from birth?

Even defining intelligence by any universal measurement is nearly impossible, let alone establishing it's causal factors.

Charles Murray tried with IQ and now he gets rocks thrown at him for a living.

I ran some numbers, it’s absolutely feasible that we can do Cirelli at say 6 mil if we do one or more of things regarding Hank, Strome, ADA, Buch, Smith, Staal.

by the way, didn’t get to say that I enjoy your contributions being that you were in the hockey business. Was gonna mention that after the Dunlap post but the thread was renewed.

Why is Cirelli signi g an OS for just 6per?

If I'm him, I'm not leaving Tampa for anything less than 7.5 or more.

Ive brought up Antoine Roussel as an option from Vancouver. He has a couple of years left and Vancouver will probably be looking to shed cap. Perhaps they would retain a bit but he’d be ideal for the opposite wing from Lemieux
side grade at best, wtf would anyone do this? guy costs way too much you can get someone out of the bargain bin in free agency for league minimum

What's unfortunate, again, is that given the circumstances, I would have gladly given Aho the same offer sheet the Habs gave him last yer, or more, if it meant there was a chance of getting him. I don't see Cirelli on the same level.

Hi guys...I guess some of you still remember me ;)

Some NYR fans on twitter think it could be a good idea to make a trade with the Wild to bring Zuccarello back, if the Wild retain at least 30%. It kind of makes sense, because he could be useful as a mentor for all the young players on your team.

So what do you think, is there a way to bring Zucc home?

yah, how about f*** that? .5 PPG player at $6M per year for 4 more years? Why the hell would this EVER be a good move?

Okay but that is as if Dreger reported that Toronto wanted to move their glut of forwards for defensive help and then said that they are looking to move Hyman and Johnsson

Toronto needs to get real and realize that they are probably going to have to move Nylander if they want actual help...

At 3 million it would be a pretty good move. Would be tough to convince the wild to retain that much though.

Also, we're getting pretty playmaker-heavy at the wing position- it will be challenging soon to be able to even fit everyone on two powerplay units.

Why would Koivu leave the Wild? And why don't we just go after a younger, better C in Mikael Granlund?
He might not but I thought I had read that the wild we ready to move on. If Granlund could be had cheap or they felt he could be a building block then, sure target him.

I was looking too not pay Strome, give Chytil a chance on the second line and fill a bottom 6 center slot with a veteran presence. Koivu being a Finn,I thought might be good for Kakko.

Just making conversation

He had 31 points last year in 65 games in about 13:40 of ice time per game and with ~60% defensive zone starts. That on top of being a PIA to play against. His issues are health and a slightly inflated contract but if the cost was minimal, say the rights to Vinny Lettieri, and Vancouver accepted to keep $750k of his salary, Roussel at $2.25m per season for only 2 years wouldn't be a bad depth option.

It was just an idea I figure would generate some conversation. It's summer time

No. Sorry I wasn't clear. I want Koivu or someone like that to be the 3rd/4th line center. Put Chytil in the middle of Panarin and Kakko. I just don't think Strome is going to be worth whatever it takes to resign. My guess is over $5 which is too much imo. This is also presuming that Koivu or another vet would take a sub $2 offer or in that neighborhood.

Sorry for the confusion
No worries.

I think that Strome, seeing his own situation and the team's situation, would not necessarily need to go beyond that as he would still have another shot at UFA before he is 30. As for Chytil, he really needs to show a lot more before being put into that situation.

No. They offered Mats the same money but one year less than Minnesota. That was the tipping point. Dallas players pleaded with him to stay but the extra year was too valuable.

Jokes on him, he could be in the playoffs right now. Instead he's on a perennial loser saddled with massive contracts, 2 decent prospects, and one relatively good breakout star (fiala)... this is clearly a guy that chose $ over winning, which is fine, but nobody should ever feel bad for Zucc, and minnesota did a GREAT job of making a country club atmosphere. that team will win nothing for the next 15 years

Don’t know anything about him personally, but it appears that TB will want to bridge him at 3.5-4, maybe. So 6.3 mil x 5 looks pretty tempting. They have a win window going but are ageing and will have cap issues for the forseeable future. State tax aside, it’s a good opportunity to join the NYR on a young team trending up, get a 2C role with Pan and Kakko, live in NY, blah, blah.

Never said they do. Yet. But he toes the line. Not to get personal but I am a moderate republican (*ducks*) but in the public view it's sadly a tough position even for me to take and I'm a moderate. Whether you agree with it or not, there's a finer microscope on conservatives/trump supporters especially in liberal cities/locations, and in a purely business sense he's a bit of a potential liability. Could be the team disagrees.
I get what you are saying, but I just do not think it matters that much in the NHL. As long as he is not wearing a swastika or a Lyndon Larouche hat, he is fine. What the team and the rest of the NHL sees is a 24 year old, 60 point defenseman.

Yeah, this and the wing spots on this team are quickly filling up.

As an aside, if Minnesota would retain $3m an 2 years from now the Rangers decide they want to move on, they could in turn retain $1.5m more and turn Zucc into a $1.5m player I would think teams would be interested in that if worst came to worst

He is exactly the type of depth forward that rounds out the roster. I would take him at that price tag for the two years in a heartbeat.
