I will say this: I think I like Stutzle better than Byfield.

And I think if the offer was 3/5/Tkachuk, and I was so inclined to take the deal, I only take that deal if we do it after the second pick is made and Stutzle is still there.

Agreed. I am not a huge fan of Byfield and I honestly do think Stutzle will be very close to Lafreniere's level down the road. He has an undeniable motor, and elite puck skills, but I do think it will take a year or two of adjustment and physical growth before his presence is felt. I believe Lafreniere's impact will be instant though.

I'd have a tough time turning down Stutzle, 5, and Tkachuk.

For my own understanding as I do not get to watch these kids much, Stutzle sounds like Zadina in his draft year (whereas Zadina was a wing and Stutzle is a center). Similar?

both hockeydb and nhl.com list Stuetzle as a LW, not a C.

Edit: I see other sources say he can play C.

Not a Zadina hater but Stutzle will skate circles around him. I think he’s clear top 3 in this draft

I think there are some similarities, but Stützle is among the best skaters in this draft together with Mercer. Zadina's game exploded when he was loaned to the NHL and everyone was shocked he fell to 6th. Stützle, in the DEL, against professionals, is putting up a career year by a teenager.

The biggest questionmark surrounding Stützle, and Reichel and Peterka for that matter, is that the DEL is traditionally not a very strong league and it's uncertain how much value to put into his performance. Some people think the DEL is becoming a stronger league, while I myself consider the recent surge in prospects an anomaly, rather than a sign of an upward trajectory for the country.

I think some here like to pretend that his weaknesses don't exist, while the main boards pretend his very obvious strengths don't exist.
Totally fine. His defense is a work in progress but he has so many positives to his game I’m not gonna mention when would even dream of having a 24 year old 60 point rhd

Don't really agree, I think he's the kind of vet you need to keep right now while you're trying to develop a team with a lot of young talent. Again look at the guys we want to see on this team and how young they are...Kakko, 19, Chytil 20, Kravtsov 20, potentially Lafreniere 18, even Howden and Fox are just 22. Those guys need some solid professionals to not just help them on the ice but also off the ice, and to create a locker room culture that promotes a winning attitude. There's plenty of roster space for Kreider right now one way or another

A huge reason they kept him was his impact on the lockerroom and other players, they're not gonna move him now just cuz they won the draft lottery. He's a big part of how they expect this team to develop its players.
I get what you're saying, but I would surely rather young guys model their game after some of the vets on the team who always bring a consistent effort. No disagreement off the ice, he seems like a great guy, but on the ice you just never know what youre getting game in and game out.

And that's why the main board is willing to offer a late 1st for him.

It's unfortunate Kadri was moved last year. He would have been somewhat ideal as a 2C here.

I bet fans would complain that he takes penalties while sticking up for teammates and negates powerplays. i would love him on the Rangers. always been a fan of his. underrated player. Avs got lucky with that trade

How is this the best option this year when we are salary cap strapped?

Translation: it is not an option
I ran some numbers, it’s absolutely feasible that we can do Cirelli at say 6 mil if we do one or more of things regarding Hank, Strome, ADA, Buch, Smith, Staal.

by the way, didn’t get to say that I enjoy your contributions being that you were in the hockey business. Was gonna mention that after the Dunlap post but the thread was renewed.

Don’t mind debating any trades but when it comes to ADA it’s a joke. He’s treated as a throw in. It would be best to not include him on any trade on the main boards
He needs to do it again for him to truly gain value. He's still a risk in that sense

A well timed power play négation to make a point and defend teammates is defendable and takes judgement. Kadri lacks the judgement part

He had great chemistry with Panarin, I'd be hesitant to throw that away unless it is the right deal. My real issue with him is that in today's volatile political climate, whether you agree or disagree with his point of view, he's a bit of a liability on SM being so outspoken and he's bound to say something that would unfortunately reflect poorly on the team/league.

Better idea. Why don't we just let other teams offer sheet our guys and then we can match the deal? There's nothing to be afraid of. Nobody is going to offer sheet someone for so much money that it would be untenable to match given what it would cost them in draft picks not to mention overpaying the player. We are not, and will not, be in situation like TB where they have nearly no cap space and have half the team with NMCs.
