He had 31 points last year in 65 games in about 13:40 of ice time per game and with ~60% defensive zone starts. That on top of being a PIA to play against. His issues are health and a slightly inflated contract but if the cost was minimal, say the rights to Vinny Lettieri, and Vancouver accepted to keep $750k of his salary, Roussel at $2.25m per season for only 2 years wouldn't be a bad depth option.

It was just an idea I figure would generate some conversation. It's summer time

I see no reason why vancouver needs to shed cap. couple of guys coming off the books, Leino's LTIR coming off the books, Virtanen can be low balled, Tanev and Toffoli come off the books, they've got 2-3 good prospects in the pipeline who already saw NHL action this year.

They are a good team, they shouldn't be dismantling.

Zucc has been horrible more often than not for most of the last 2 years.

He played well for a month before we moved him and then in the playoffs with Dallas, but ever since around the time the letter went out, hes been incredibly underwhelming.

He wasn't exactly gracious on his way out either. No way he comes back and I don't think the team would want him.

Yeah, this and the wing spots on this team are quickly filling up.

As an aside, if Minnesota would retain $3m an 2 years from now the Rangers decide they want to move on, they could in turn retain $1.5m more and turn Zucc into a $1.5m player I would think teams would be interested in that if worst came to worst

This is not allowed. At least 50% of a players contract/salary has to be on the destination team. if the Wild held $3M, the rangers would have to trade him at $3M.

Don’t know anything about him personally, but it appears that TB will want to bridge him at 3.5-4, maybe. So 6.3 mil x 5 looks pretty tempting. They have a win window going but are ageing and will have cap issues for the forseeable future. State tax aside, it’s a good opportunity to join the NYR on a young team trending up, get a 2C role with Pan and Kakko, live in NY, blah, blah.

Fast AND a pain in the ass to play against. he's the only bright spot on tampa outside of Kucherov and hedman.

I still want him on the team.

If he can accept 3rd/4th line duties, that's a big piece to the bottom 6 puzzle m.

Get his head on straight. Get his game back up to his draft predicated status and flank him with Lemmy and Goat. That's a prickish 4th line
Agree with this. Hope he gets another chance at some point.

Not true. Vegas is only carrying $1.4M of Robin Lehner's $5M cap hit.

He's 22. Theres still time to realize it, but yeah. Wasn't his dad a bodybuilder and his grandfather like a professional wrestler or like a Mr. Universe? You'd think he'd know it by now. I mean Lafreniere is pretty much the opposite of the "soft French-Canadian," but Gauthier epitomizes it despite being bigger and stronger.

Its either in your DNA to play a certain way, or not.

Can he still be effective playing a softer game, maybe, but for the role he's in, being stiffer to play against is required.

My idea: sign Joe Thornton

He's old, but he still has skill left and plays a decent amount of minutes. Let him center Lafreniere's line and mentor Lafreniere. The Sharks were also terrible last season so he may have some room for improvement on a new team.

I think he's going to want to sign with someone a little further down the path than we are.

You want Lafreniere to have to wait 30 seconds after entering the offensive zone for Jumbo Joe to catch up

LMAO JD smoothing things over likely helped a bit, but LA sees our stacked LW and realized if he can even make it to only the 3rd line he'd be playing with, at worst, an all star LW. He's starting to realize earning his way up might be more worthwhile than he thought at first. Whatever the reason, glad to hear him say something overtly positive about his future with the team, great news!

I think Granlund would only really be an option if he took a one or two year deal to try and pump up his value and the Rangers dealt Buchnevich and he was the replacement. Great playmaker from the wing, wouldn't hurt to have another Finn to make Kakko comfortable, but he's not a center in the NHL.

Someone will give him a better deal than that on the open market.

Would anyone be against bringing Brassard back on a short 2 year deal for depth?

It's not so much dismantling as it is re-allocating. They really like Toffoli and want to re-sign him. That's probably a $5.5m contract per season. They need a goalie and like Markstrom. Say they spend $3-4m on a good 1A/B goalie. They have to re-sin Stecher and they like Tanev, combined those guys are probably at $8-9m. They have about $17m in cap space available for next season now with:
10F
5D
1G

Sign Toffoli - $5.5m
Sign Virtanen - $3m
Sign Motte - $1.5m
Sign Stecher - $3m
Sign Tanev - $5.5m
Sign Markstrom - $5m

The year after they have Petersson and Hughes as RFA's
