There are going to be good players left without a chair when the music stops. If we are patient, we should be able to add one or two on good deals.
Avs fan here.. looks like we will miss out on Hayes this year. Not a lot out there in FA to pick up a 2c without some kind of trade. Soooo with the 4OA and a prospect (jost/ Kaut) would that get a deal with zibs? He fits what we need. Kaut was our 1st round pick last year and looked good in Jrs.
Rangers future looks damn good and 2 picks in the top 4 would kick start a rebuild. Kakko/byrum. That alone makes me drool.
If we were talking about a Doughty/Karlsson contract for Trouba, I'd absolutely agree with you. But so long as we're in the ~$8MM range, we're talking 25-33% less than that. I'm more than willing to pay that for Trouba for years 26-33 in the current cap environment. My main issue with Trouba is the ROI. He's very likely at peak value right now. It's hard to see him regularly beating his performance from last year; especially when you consider he's going from a top team in the league to one of the worst. So you trade for him and give him a major contract but you'll never see him out perform that cost. To me the Rangers need to be looking for unrealized gain in the places other teams aren't looking.
I still keep circling back to Ristolainen. I think he's a gem just waiting for some polish.
Would you do Cale Makar and 4oa for Zibby?Avs fan here.. looks like we will miss out on Hayes this year. Not a lot out there in FA to pick up a 2c without some kind of trade. Short answer? He's been lousy defensively in the NHL.
Longer answer is that the ability is definitely there. He was lauded for his hockey sense and two way ability when he was coming up. I think that with a fresh start and a role where he can focus less on being the offensive catalyst could do wonders for him. It's a gamble but one that could pay off big time.
Unlikely makar for zibby straight up. Behind mack and rants, he's the next guy. We haven't had a number 1D guy and hoping he fills that. Jost would be another complimentary piece with the 4th. He was rushed into the lineup way too early but during the play offs he showed a lotWould you do Cale Makar and 4oa for Zibby?
Not a bad offer at all but we seriously can not afford to trade him right now.Avs fan here.. looks like we will miss out on Hayes this year. Agreed.Possibly. It's also possible that Trouba never makes it to free agency, or that Gorton executes plan B, C or D and that eliminates the need for Trouba.
I think Gorton is going to be wheeling and dealing this summer and I think we are going to be surprised by some of the moves he makes. That's not to say that I think he will go big game hunting, necessarily, but I think he will be very aggressive in trying to take advantage of certain situations around the league. There are a lot of teams facing cap crunches and there are lottery teams who need to take the next step.
I don’t think Kreider gets us Risto straight up, but I would love to somehow also get 8OA and move Shattenkirk in that deal.I would be in favor of trading for Risto if management thinks they can turn him into a better defensive player and the cost isn't prohibitive. He has scored between 41 and 45 points in each of the last 4 years. Despite his defensive shortcomings, his age, size and offensive production raise his value. I don't know that he will be cheap to acquire.
Is there a deal to be made that involves Kreider, Risto and a swap of 1st round picks?
Kreider, Shatty@50% and/or Pionk and 20th overall for Risto and 8th overall? Is that at all realistic? I could see Kreider maybe re-signing in Buffalo.
For some reason, and all know my feelings regarding Trouba, had a thought that perhaps we are over complicating this. Maybe the Rangers and Jets exchange like assets with like issues (here one year left on deal)? What if it was Kreider for Trouba? I am not saying that this is what I want, but rather seems to be a like for like exchange.Trouba continues to be someone the Rangers track and for whom the Rangers will remain engaged.
What I don't see is the Rangers front office going nuts and chasing the price into the stratosphere.

I don't think there was any real chance that we would sign him, but if he goes back to SJ, then maybe Shattenkirk becomes a more attractive option for some teams. Tampa is looking for defense and tried to trade for Shattenkirk before he went to Washington. Given their cap situation, maybe they like him at half price for 2 years.
I think that people tend not to see him for what he is. Put him on a team with better support and I am not sure you aren't looking at a 90 point forward. ZBad on a Tampa? Wow.It would take an offer that is simply too generous to pass up. The 4th overall and a prospect isn't that.
Zibanejad is the best player on the team by a mile and could very well be the next captain. He's not getting moved for anything less than a major overpayment.

He's been pretty poor. However, his style of play seems to be what fits with Quinn and Gorton. He has always had the talent. Could be another player on whom Quinn goes to work on and extracts what has always been there. I would not be opposed to taking a shot on him.can risto play defense at all?

Fingers crossed, but I struggle to see Dallas resigning Zuc. It's just hard to justify a 1R pick in the coming draft when you can try to obtain similar production elsewhere in UFA.
