This. Let the kids we have here marinate and the bad contracts expire organically. There’s no rush.

Signing anyone to help this year doesn’t help anything. We won’t be a playoff team.

Buying anyone out this offseason doesn’t make sense. Wait a yr and if u wanna then? Go right ahead because at least at that point there’d (hopefully) be a good reason.

The only thing that would make me consider a buyout is to open a slot for a young player. I still think Smith is tradeable

The other guy I'd be interested in as a trade target is Kaprizov out of Minny. You have to think his chances of signing would increase exponentially with us.

Is Skjei a trade piece? Like with Kreider Edmonton make sense.

Skjei for 1st, Pulji and a solid prospect, they surely have someone theyself don't really knows about.
Is Kreider extended in that deal?

Maybe I am over valuing our guys but I feel like that is a bit light if we are trading a top line winger and a top 4 defenseman.

At this point, I would too.

It’s not that I view Skjei as an invaluable part of the future, so much as I’d strongly prefer to let these neophyte NHL defenseman get a few more hairs on their ass first.
His value is likely to go up before it goes any lower. So even if they want to trade him they should wait a bit.

Agreed... but Brannstrom is as good as it gets as far as a top defensive prospect in a trade. Many compared Krieder's value to that of Stone... if that were the case then sign me up for a similar deal.
There’s no way Kreider is as good as Stone. Stone has some of the best hands in the league and he’s a Selke finalist for best defensive forward in the league. Kreider has rocks for hockey IQ.

Nah nah nah not giving them Kreider as well in that. Just sees him as another player Oilers would like and need and maybe prepare to sacrifice something nice.

All in all, we need to clear bodies and some might go only with a bitter taste.

Agreed which is why I’d take it and run if a similar package for Kreider was offered. Not sure if I made that clear in my initial post.

Agreed on your first and third points but couldn’t disagree more with your second point. Personally, I think it’s the wrong attitude to have.

I'm still perplexed why the Rangers didn't move Claesson at the deadline. I know he's a solid #7, but according to some insiders, there was interest in him. We have a number of guys that could be used this year to fill that role and he seems like someone blocking one of the kids. Wonder if he's used as a chip to move up a few spots at the draft since he's still an RFA.
If there was sincere interest, I am sure they would have moved him.

Desperate team that needs to progress. To be honest, it isn't that bad. They have money too. I expect them to look at another winger or two in free agency. They need to do something while Dahlin will be cheap. The winger market this offseason is fairly deep.

Don't see them as a team in on Kreider, but if they could I'd think they would consider moving that pick to get a player to help now, especially a player with some term on their contract.

Based off his last year you guys think he should be Captain?

He was shuffled between the AHL and NHL and even sulked a little bit according to reports.

I don't know if that's Captain material.

Messier was a sulker... at least at first. Then he got over it and turned it on.

I don't buy this IQ thing. Kreider is a very good player. His problem is the contract.

That Skinner contract bro

Oh my god

I mean it might not be that bad for the first few years but in years like, 5-8? Yikes.

How long ago was it people could post stuff like — ‘is Hayes really worth 4.5m per for 5 years???’ — with some weight behind it?

Prices are going up in this league as they always have, and always will. Yet the ‘always will’ part isn’t counted on at all.

When’s the regret on that Skinner contract gonna kick in? November?

Buffalo will regret the Skinner contract at about the same time the team signing Panarin will regret their contract signing.

October?

Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed Skinner's contract a lot for the last 6 months. Marek would ask what's going on with Skinner. Elliotte would say the player wants to stay and the team wants the player to stay so they are not trading him at the trade deadline. Skinner has a number in mind and the Sabres need to hit that number starting with an 8 or a 9 for 8 years for him to re-sign in Buffalo.

8 x 9.
