What would you all offer Philly for Nolan Patrick?

Could be a good buy low situation.

I honestly don't know. I haven't watched enough of him to know what his issues are. I do know he is only two years removed from being 2nd overall and while there are obviously immediate expectations when you are picked that high, I'm not sure how cheap he would actually be.

Heck, I don't even know what Philly's needs are.

Patrick is nothing special. 2nd/3rd line tweener whose best skill is effort.

Has a plus backhand iirc but nothing else particularly noteworthy.

And that's the weird thing when you watch him. I don't see a speed problem. I don't see a skills problem. I see someone who looks like he has having a hell of a time consistently trying to figure out what he's seeing out there on the ice. Or maybe a better way to say it is that he looks like he is struggling to translate what he's seeing into an action or reaction that makes sense.
The Evgeni Grachev problem.

Goalie?

My friends & I we’re discussing would trade Smith for a dubi, backes, gaborik type player bad fwd for bad defenseman at a high price. Either straight up or a small sweetener for higher price tag.

I'm still perplexed why the Rangers didn't move Claesson at the deadline. I know he's a solid #7, but according to some insiders, there was interest in him. We have a number of guys that could be used this year to fill that role and he seems like someone blocking one of the kids. Wonder if he's used as a chip to move up a few spots at the draft since he's still an RFA.

17. New York Rangers

2019-20 salaries: $62.1 million
RFAs estimate: $9.5 million
Projected cap space: $11.4 million

Another rebuilding team that has some money to throw around this offseason.

It’ll be interesting to see how patient the Rangers are here. They have some good young players coming, but there’s also the fact that Henrik Lundqvist is winding down his career and there have been rumors New York could be players for Panarin or another big name via trade.

New York could also buy out some of the bad contracts on their roster, creating even more space to maneuver, but the issue there is it doubles the number of years that the cap hit for the likes of Brendan Smith and Matt Beleskey will be on the roster.

The Rangers would be better off trying to absorb some bad deals from elsewhere in exchange for picks or prospects and settling for another low finish in the standings. They’re going to have a ton of cap space freed up for the summer of 2020 and some of their young players like Adam Fox will likely be able to contribute more in the NHL by that point.

Notable unsigned UFAs: None

The ton of cap space comes into play in 2021 when the Lundqvist, Shattenkirk and Smith contracts have expired.
