I'm still perplexed why the Rangers didn't move Claesson at the deadline. I know he's a solid #7, but according to some insiders, there was interest in him. We have a number of guys that could be used this year to fill that role and he seems like someone blocking one of the kids. Wonder if he's used as a chip to move up a few spots at the draft since he's still an RFA.
It was an extreme buyer's market. Mark Stone didn't even get a 1st. Simmonds got a 4th.

As much as I like Claesson, I can't imagine he was worth much of anything this past deadline.

You have to wonder... if Chicago takes Turcotte at #3 and I don't think that is as out of bounds as it was a month ago, would 4th overall do the trick for Laine and draft Byram?

Would allow them to have more options when it comes to moving Trouba...
Maybe, I think Colorado’s priority is going to be finding a center to slot in behind MacKinnon

That's fair, but what do we do with him this year? I can't imagine his stock goes up much, if at all, for this year's TDL. Just seems unnecessary to keep him at this stage of the rebuild when we have a decent number of options that we can use.

You never know. Only one domino needs to fall to enter a seller's market again.

Rolling my eyes so hard rn.

Agreed about Cleasson but Brannstrom was the main piece in that Stone trade not the 2nd and Lindberg was basically a throw in.

Just to bring some more context to the conversation for those on the side of Tanking and/or arguing that is imperative we end up with another top pick...

Who is the Blues generational talent? Who is their top 3 pick?

Alex Pietrangelo the #4 pick from 2008? 11 years ago?

Its just to say that the game is different. There is not one blueprint to go off of.

We will end up with Kakko, or Hughes, and we can continue to ice a competitive team.

Just a different perspective to this ongoing debate.
One big answer to this general question for the Blues is a trigger name around here...

Would think they'd only want to move Laine to an Eastern Conference team

A signed Stone still gets a 1st in a normal year, in addition to a top prospect.

Agreed... but Brannstrom is as good as it gets as far as a top defensive prospect in a trade. Many compared Krieder's value to that of Stone... if that were the case then sign me up for a similar deal.

Is Skjei a trade piece? Like with Kreider Edmonton make sense.

Skjei for 1st, Pulji and a solid prospect, they surely have someone theyself don't really knows about.

If Chicago passes on Byram there may be riots by their fans.

I’m not in favor of signing Duchene either but this seems like unnecessary and misplaced hatred for the player. He’s a 65-70 point center and far from a headache defensively but he will command 9 million a season for the next 7 years and is not the kind of investment this team should be making in a 28 year old UFA.
Totally agree. Not a fit with the rangers for a few reasons. But I like the player and don't see why he gets a bad rap. I actually see him re-signing in Columbus when all is said and done.

The ton of cap space comes into play in 2021 when the Lundqvist, Shattenkirk and Smith contracts have expired.

This. Let the kids we have here marinate and the bad contracts expire organically. There’s no rush.

Signing anyone to help this year doesn’t help anything. We won’t be a playoff team.

Buying anyone out this offseason doesn’t make sense. Wait a yr and if u wanna then? Go right ahead because at least at that point there’d (hopefully) be a good reason.

Duchene is a guy I would be comfortable giving 5 years (he’d probably never take it) if circumstances were different for this team and we were closer to contending. I think he winds up in Nashville or CBJ

Yep. My concerns are just contract and age with him. He seems to be a perfect fit for Quinn's system, I'd say.

I can't believe they wouldnt have traded him for even a seventh rounder in 2030. I question those insiders.

Yep. Totally. I'd let Claesson walk. He was a good guy for us. He might find a regular spot on another team. There's no use holding his rfa rights as hostage. That's one catch you throw back and pay it forward, so to speak.
