I won`t be too active until next 2019-20 season, or closer to next season. And Mats Zuccarello saw the soccer game last evening and was spotted in the media - so always good memories when I see him on Tv. :)
Have a great summer with closest family and enjoy the draft and vacation. ;)

Personally, I'd keep Skjei.

Yea I don’t get why people want him moved... Staal, Smith , Shatty , Claesson are not part of the long term but Skjei can be plus who knows which guys out of Miller , Rykov , Ruenanen, Lindgren, Hajek actually stick ?

Buffalo will regret the Skinner contract at about the same time the team signing Panarin will regret their contract signing.

October?

Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed Skinner's contract a lot for the last 6 months. Marek would ask what's going on with Skinner. Elliotte would say the player wants to stay and the team wants the player to stay so they are not trading him at the trade deadline. Skinner has a number in mind and the Sabres need to hit that number starting with an 8 or a 9 for 8 years for him to re-sign in Buffalo.

8 x 9.

Buffalo overpaid because, well, they're in Buffalo.

Panarin will be a more effective player, for longer, than Skinner.

I still wouldn't pay him 11-12 million/yr.

The team seem so good w picks this year so if Vesey , Names, Fast go it’s best to get picjd for next year .

Fox will likely cost a 2nd so they should try and get that back .... vets are more likely to go at the deadline IMO

I'm still perplexed why the Rangers didn't move Claesson at the deadline. I know he's a solid #7, but according to some insiders, there was interest in him. We have a number of guys that could be used this year to fill that role and he seems like someone blocking one of the kids. Wonder if he's used as a chip to move up a few spots at the draft since he's still an RFA.

No one is going to take a spare part like Claesson as an incentive to move down in the draft

It’s not common to see players get dealt draft day for a pick . If it happens it’s Kreider .... for example Schenn went for a 1st... those are real good players

The question is, with some of these contracts being signed this summer, what number goes into Kreiders head? Especially if he has a solid contract year, say 35/25/60.

Is 2021/2022 is the season that the Rangers actually goes for it? And I dont mean contend for a playoffspot, but the cup. When looking at the contracts it is hard to imagine that it ever will be a more favourable moment. The bad contracts gone, Zibanejad in his last year of his good contract, Fox, Kravtsov and Kakko? in their last year of ELC. And most of the young players will have 3 years experience.
Or will there be a lock-out?

No. At least not in my view of the timeline. They should be competing for an in the playoffs at that time. Obviously anything can happen, but via organic growth and even smart UFA imports, I cannot see such a quick turnaround.

Fair enough. I just cant see any better opportunity cap wise until the next rebuild.

I don't think most people want to move him just to move him. For me, I see him as a possible chip we can use to fill a need. I wouldn't trade him for futures, but if there's a hockey trade to be made where we bring back a top 4 RHD or a top 6 center, yeah.

We have depth on the left side. Staal, Smith, Claesson, Hajek, Lindgren, Rykov, Reunanen, Crawley, Day. Miller, Gross, Sjalin and Ragnarsson waiting in the wings. Even if Smith is bought out, moved to the 4th line or demoted, we still have 2 guys left with experience.

There's a lot to be sorted out with our defense. Some guys are going to be traded at some point.

That's fair, but what do we do with him this year? I can't imagine his stock goes up much, if at all, for this year's TDL. Just seems unnecessary to keep him at this stage of the rebuild when we have a decent number of options that we can use.
Maybe just buying time till someone is ready from Hartford.

Zibanejad
Chytil
Howden
Andersson

With Strome and Nieves both capable. No need to sign another center. None of those kids while young are rookies. They’ve been thru it once at this point. They’re nhlers.

thats how I would go...the only real question mark would be around Chytil and concerns over damaging his development by putting him in over his head as the 2C. but as long as you are ok with strome or names taking over that gives you insurance. other option would be to look to sign another veteran center on a short term deal as a just in case

Skjei isn’t anything special by any means, I think he’s pretty good, but if you trade him, who is taking 1LD and those assignments? Rangers already don’t have a top pair or even a solid 1RD to play with Skjei.

for this year it would probably be staal at least to start the year...maybe claesson but that defeats the purpose of dumping skjei. I think some of the kids can eventually be as good or better than brady but you aren't throwing them into that role this quickly.

Agreed on your first and third points but couldn’t disagree more with your second point. Personally, I think it’s the wrong attitude to have.
My attitude (respectfully) won’t change a thing... nor will the attitude of the GM.

We were pretty awful last season and there’s no help in sight for this defense this yr. As for the forwards who are coming in, they will have to replace Hayes and Zucc. And then some (esp if Kreider goes... unless Panarin is his replacement).

I see us missing playoffs narrowly as best case and bottom 5 if there are major injuries or the kids don’t take massive steps forward.

Respectfully

there is nothing best case about narrowly missing the playoffs...that is pretty much the worst case scenario for a rebuilding team.

I was waiting for someone to say Staal, absolutely gross. I think the pipeline looks pretty good but no one is ready for 1LRD role just quite yet. I hope Miller one day can be.

Only one of them is anything more than a question mark (this is not me saying sign Duchene etc. just need to keep in mind that Howden of the ??? Looks to be a C but bottom 6... meaning we have a gaping hole... for now)

I agree that’s why if u look @ my post history, you will clearly see that I want no part of UFAs right now... want to trade Kreider and bottom out this coming season... with the kids cutting their teeth here or in Hartford in a healthy environment... even if it means we finish dead last yet compete night in and out.

Lose in reg by 1 instead of OT
