Our second best NHL-ready pieces after Zibanejad are expiring Kreider, Skjei and Buchnevich, who are all less valuable to a win-now team than Trouba, so I don't think it was like an insane tweet

The part of the article that intrigued me the most was Gorton’s comment;

“There’s also the (10%) allowance where you can go over the cap. We are not looking at as if we can only make one big move or addition. We’ll see where it goes.”

Hmmm...

That doesn’t sound like someone who is simply going to mail in his draft picks.
I take that to mean that he's not going to let the cap ceiling alone dictate his moves. I'm assuming there's a number he'd be comfortable with paying any of the big FAs (Panarin, Karlsson), and if they by some miracle wanted to sign at a huge discount, he'd be willing to go over the cap and buyout someone during the second window to become cap compliant. Ditto if there's a bad contract that someone is willing to pay through the nose to get rid of. Probably has a .0001% chance of happening, but it's nice to know Dolan gives him the flexibility money-wise to do those things if it benefits the team.

On the scale of Eric Lindros/Brad Richards longevity to Joe Sakic/Steve Yzerman longevity, I'd wager Malkin is closer to the former.

Gorton said they'd look at the second buy-out window in July. That's where the 10% comes in. You don't need to buy anyone out until you see how free agency plays out. If they land what they're looking for, they can go over the cap by 10% in July and use August buy-outs to start the season cap compliant.

Yea this makes the most sense

They could also move Namestnikov or Vesey to shed salary

I think they could make a deal for a RD if Shattenkirk also moves out

There's a certain Rangers podcast that comes to mind.
The one where we could win the Stanley Cup and it would still be an hour of them whining?

Those guys going on and on about how they were annoyed that the Rangers didn't interview anyone else other than JD for President made me want to pull my hair out. JD was the leading candidate but they still did other interviews. Just because Brooks and Carp aren't reporting on it doesn't mean it's not happening.

Does anyone think we could pry McAvoy or Pastrnak out of Boston? They might be looking to make some changes after a disappointing end to the year. Would they be interested in a package including Andersson, Fast, and the 20? We could also include Kreider at 50% to help them for next year.

That annoyed me so much too, the Rangers were only going to interview someone else if JD turned down the job, it’s like they don’t realize the owner is the one who’s going to interview people for the job and the owner doesn’t care about any hockey business besides signing checks

Rangers need to steal someone like the Blues stole O’Reilly
It wasn’t just ROR, but Schenn too. Also smaller moves like Maroon, Bozak, bringing back Perron, finally pulling the trigger on moving from Allen, good drafting and development, pulling the trigger on Yeo...
