Not for nothing we acquired

3 first round picks in 2017

Andersson
Chytil
DeAngelo (I include DeAngelo just because he’s a former first rounder included in Stepan deal)

3 first round picks in 2018

Kravstov
Miller
Lundkvist
You forgot Howden for 2018 added. He was drafted 27th overall in 2016.

But the points you are making are what I have been saying as well. If you cannot find talent in all of those 1st Round picks added from 2017-2019 then you have much bigger problems. And thats even if you dont end up with a lottery pick.

All of this should only make you want to sign Panarin more. You are adding to what should be a deep cupboard. Lets not forget the multiple 2nds and 3rds as well. Just imagine if someone in the later rounds pans out.

They're not re-signing Hayes, that Brooks article sounds like posturing

They made the decision to not re-sign him when they handed him the 1 year contract to sign, don't let them tell you any different

I think the Rangers would've been happy to sign him for 3 or 4 years, but he was 5+ or bust.

The Rangers once handed Lundqvist a one-year deal to sign. His next contract was his current one.

The Rangers traded Stepan at 27 because 1) they were concerned about his play in the last 4 years of his contract(ages 27-31) and 2) his NTC was starting that 7/1.

Brooks was writing the Rangers were not trading Stepan without getting back a top pair RD. They didn’t get back a top pair RD. ADA doesn’t qualify as a top pair RD. Carpiniello said he was a thrown in in the Stepan trade. The Rangers still moved Stepan.

How old will Hayes be? 27 when his next contract starts and he is a getting a NTC. Whether it’s a full NTC or a limited NTC. He will be getting a NTC. His next contract will take him into his early to mid 30’s.

Zibanejad has a full NMC in all 3 remaining seasons. Do the Rangers move him too? They moved Stepan before his NTC started.

Here's the thing about Hayes. 2 of the 3 biggest issues that kept him from going to the next level are gone. His skating. His gawkiness. He looks more filled out than ever before. That sturdiness along with the smoother skating stride is more obvious this year then I can remember. Those two things have given him more time and space to slow the game down a bit for his skill to kick in. (Also his overall game seems more well rounded than ever) If he would just shoot a bit more it would be great. As is, he seems to be the second most dangerous Rangers forward right now after Zib. If we keep him, he's a difference maker. We could trade him now, but we would need a really strong return. We could probably trade him 2 years into his contract. But honestly, the cap thing -- I would look for a Shattenkirk deal if I was worried about the cap.

Everything that has leaked is that Kevin wants to remain in NYC and loves playing for the Rangers. Gorts and Hayes had many discussions about different contracts over the summer. I wonder if part of the discussion went something like this - Kevin, we need a few more assets to add to the cupboard this year to complete the rebuild. How about you sign a 1 year deal at a fair number and then we will trade you at some point this season to a contender. After the season those numbers we had discussed are still going to be there should you want to return to NY.

Slats even alluded to this at the Town Hall meeting before the season started with his Kevin is going to get a lot of money next year....

I was right in front of Sather when he said that, and i totally cringed. It was almost like he was proud of it. I like Hayes, but i don't think he is anything more then a $4.5 million dollar player.

I could see Zibanejad getting trading if the Rangers draft a center.

Personally, I think his contract would be the thing they'd give the most consideration to.

Having said that, at this point I don't think he goes unless the Rangers get absolutely blown away by an offer that they absolutely cannot pass up.

Even if the Rangers draft a center, Zibanejad would be the only established NHL scoring center on the roster. Assuming that Hayes is traded, I think the Rangers would rather wait and see how things shake out. I think they'd rather move kids like Andersson and Chytil to the wings before they went ahead and started trading someone like Zibanejad.

Yeah I don't know if trading zbad in the offseason and rolling Howden, Lias, Chytil and a draft pick/cheap FA is the best recipe for success. They're gonna struggle at times, and there's no relief for the kids.

Right now, I'd say Kreider and Zibanejad will be here for the long-term.

It's a matter of finding additional pieces in addition to them.

I freely admit, I struggle to envision a scenario in which Chytil and Andersson are both playing center.

I think the odds are pretty significant that at least one is going to end up on the wings or traded for help elsewhere, especially if the Rangers end up taking a center in this draft with a high pick.

I literally wrote not to mention Howden a former first round pick! Lol
