NHLer for NHLer. They're already playing Greig at wing. Same reason you like Edstrom is the reason they'd like him. It cannot be reiterated enough that they are tired of losing.

Yes NTCs get waived but those are players inclined to move to certain places.

Looking at Ottawa's roster, they're actually ok but paper thin at LD so no Lindgren. Their RD is an horrifying apocalypse.

I think if you're looking to make a big hockey trade with them, it's KAM/Kakko going their way for Batherson/Pinto or something along those lines. And you'd have to figure out how to make the D whole in another trade. Not easy.

Othmann had 5 points in 3 games before getting hurt. If he were healthy and playing at or above a point a game, the narrative on him would be very different right now.

Well he is their 3C. And they arent making the playoffs. And i would bet he doesnt want to be there long term. It would probably cost Kakko and Othmann though.

Seriously, I don’t think Dolan has enough hockey expertise to be the thug in the room. Yes, I am sure he pushes in certain directions (e.g. toughness, accelerating the rebuild) but it was getting to a point where he couldn’t sell regular season tickets, no less playoff. Tickets. There are owners with a lot less patience.

Idk, thats what theyd ask for presumably. I wouldnt make the trade.

Im going to disappointed if we end up with Josh Norris and his albatross contract.

26 y/o Shesty.
Laf and Kakko on ELCs. Chytil is 20.
KAM just had 20 points in 50 games as a rookie.
Bevy of kiddos under 25 who haven't busted yet (Howden, Kravtsov, ADA, Schneider)
Panarin
Mika's not dead yet.
Buchnevich still exists.

He hasnt exactly screwed it up though either. 2 ECFs and a President's Trophy. Now people want him fired after a bad 2 months, all because he traded Buchnevich. He absolutely deserves a chance to get it right. The meter is running though.

Ive seen people say theyve won with Gorton's team. Gorton shouldve tried winning with his own team in the 5 years he was GM if it was so easy.

They needed to work out who they wanted skill guy wise and package the rest for unsexy structure pieces like a mean forward and a defensive D who could actually play, even if they overpaid to get them.

Instead, Tom Wilson exists and we tried to cater to Nils Lunkqvist and ended up with Ryan Reaves and Patrik Nemeth.

Obviously wouldn't let Edstrom be the holdup in a deal to bring back someone good, but developing useful players like him is huge. For one, to avoid paying players like Goodrow 3.6 mil, secondly, to avoid deploying completely useless players like Pitlick and McKegg, and lastly to avoid trading picks for guys like Motte.

I don't necessarily disagree but would that have made them good enough either? I don't think so. They were missing 1-2 more elite pieces.

I still think Othmann has top 6 winger upside. Maybe Dustin Brown with a little higher goal scoring touch. Is he tradable? Yes.

That said going back to that draft the Rangers could have taken Jesper Walstedt (instead of Othmann) who was shortly thereafter taken by the Wild. The question is top notch NHL starter upside vs. second line winger upside. Another point to be made is all the debate and fury over Igor's next contract. The 'never take a goalie until it's the 4th round' and the 'Igor's going to be our goalie for the next 15 years so we'll never need to worry about goaltending ever again' people are no doubt some of the same today who are 'no way am I going to pay this guy $12.5 mil worth of Jimmy Dolan's dollars'. If we had drafted Wallstedt we'd at least have something of a heading into the future backup plan. Sure there's the possibility that we'll find another Lundqvist/Shesterkin in a 6th round of some future draft but that's not something you can bank on or that some undrafted European wunderkind will favor us signing as a free agent....again something you can't count on or you could end up with another Georgiev.

I think that keeps them on a more even trajectory where there's still year-over-year progress. I think they tried to have their cake and eat it too with all the skill kiddos and seeing who panned out, and none of them panned out.

Needed to monetize them because in the end they're all off the roster 3 years later anyway.
