Why do I even root for this team???

It's always the same crap. ALWAYS

One small step forward & 12M back.

Just when there's a modicum of hope, it's snuffed out an hour later.

Culture change?

Nope.

Same 'ol same 'ol

Exactly. And Igor knows what team is in front of him. He knows we’re in a tailspin and no one is playing well and the roster is flawed. So we just moved a 20 min a night middle pair D out and replaced him with an injured career #7. Meanwhile he’s got 92M guaranteed coming his way from the age of 30-38. I’m sure Igor’s best days are totalllllly still to come.

If Igor re signed, I hope to god it’s a sign and trade. Or have we learnt nothing from the MZ93 fiasco?

I'm really trying to figure out what you types genuinely wanted the Rangers to do here?
Long-term scorched earth rebuild? The Rangers? What reality do you come from?

Did you not see what the Devils spent the last 5 years dealing with in net and they STILL haven't found a long-term goalie option? Shestyorkin is ours for good now.

Posted this in the GDT like a dope

There's a loooooot of work for Drury to do on defense. You dont sign Igor to that money to sit around and run

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Schneider
Jones-Mancini
Ruhwedel

I expect the entire left side to be overhauled in the coming months. Rangers NEED veteran defenseman who can move the puck. Preferably guys on multi year deals. Thats where that deadline cap space is going. And I think Lindgren, Miller, Kakko, Jones can all be dangled.

3 hours it took for the revisionism of Trouba into a "20 min a night middle pair D" narrative

Obv Drury & "you types" learned nothing from the Hank yrs

Paying any goalie 1/8th or the cap is flat out stupid & means we will NOT be able to put a team in front of him.

Even if/when the cap goes up, it'll STILL be wayyyyyyyy to much.

We need a team, not an overpaid goalie (and by overpaid I only mean because that's too much for any goalie, not because I don't like him or feel he's not damn good)

I didn’t say he was good at it. That is factually the exact role he was playing. He was replaced by… no one. Mancini is not ready for the NHL.

don't be obtuse. The description was factual but the implication was one of value. You're also conflating 2 things - trouba deal value in a vacuum, and the broader cap picture.

agreed that mancini isn't ready. try ruhwedel. the D isn't ready until Lindgren is gone anyway.

put it this way - if these are the top 8 NYR Dmen when igor's deal kicks in, i'll be right there with you. (fox lindgren schneider miller jones mancini ruhwedel robertson)

also i just want to take this time to tell y'all that i'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of happy campers when this next crop of NYR prospects makes the team. there's perrault and othmann, but the rest are relentless and they can skate.

Jaro Chmelar is this teams future and he's gonna ruin the opposing teams day.

Drury would have never had the guts to go in a different direction in net because it would have been too risky and cost him his job most likely. Now the rangers are f***ed.
not at all
IF IF IF IF there is no immediate nmc

we still have Garand + Quick + Domingue

we can still flip shesty

prefer to keep younger cheaper Garand even tho there is a huge drop off from elite vez guy to rookie
BUT
rookie return is minimal due to minimal track record

so worth it

The Mollie tweet about Mika's NMC was weird. Do he and Kreider see the writing on the wall? They are the obvious next 2 guys to go. Aging out of being the top players and will become more and more overpaid.
Definitely seems like the Rangers are fishing around looking to move him. With Millie saying that and Staple throwing out the Mika for Miller offer.

With Igor signing i think I now believe moreso that the Rangers will make edge changes. I still like frederic to replace vesey and berard to take Smiths spot. Or vice versa. Lindgren is don't know. It was a short showing from berard, but he played with a willingness we need more of. And maybe frederic will be cheapish to resign.

The reality is probably thats all our fun for the year. Haha

Trouba was hated - mostly because of his cap hit. At Lindgren money he would have been just mediocre and not vilified. This year he has been sulking and sucked, but we still have less depth in front of Igor from a technical standpoint now. We didn’t maintain very much of the cap space we opened up either, so the cap benefit is essentially eliminated. Yes, we have tons of room to play at the TDL, if we even stay in the playoff picture, but we can’t add players with term unless we’re moving out more money with term. We need at least two top-4 D and realistically we need a top-six C. I don’t see us getting it with the chips we have remaining to move and the amount of cap we have. All we did was lock ourselves into mediocrity.

Also Igor turns 30 three months into this extension and has a 92M guaranteed coming his way. In this country club? With mediocrity in front of him every night? Probably have already seen the best we’ll ever see from him.

i don't want to litigate Trouba's defensive value, just gonna say: less bad depth isn't a bad thing.

in terms of your *subjective* analysis of the team and of Igor's range of contribution over the lifetime of this deal, i think it's unnecessarily negative. I don't agree. I think there is a path here, starting with moving lindgren and leveraging depth at W (prospect and roster player) to bring in a top-4 LHD.

As far as country club culture and how it relates to projecting Igor's effectiveness, i also don't share your negativity there. As far as i'm concerned, ditching Trouba helps the culture. Igor not only gives a shit but plays well when the games are big. That matters to me for culture.

You wanna see the sky falling here? That's your prerogative - i hear your argument. I'm not even disputing the possibility of your version of things coming to pass. I just choose to see it differently. I see a different range of outcomes.

Mika has a ton of value around the league if he is willing to waive. 8mil isnt prohibitive for a team to take on a 70 point center who plays every situation (some better than others, but they dont know that). We got rid of Trouba with no money retained and recieved value back, albiet small. These guys are well regarded around the league. Even if we are sick of them after a decade of coming up short.

Gabe, Lindgren Kakko for Sloth
Kreider for Simashev
Mika for Bertuzzi

Need another LHD

Have no clue how this works cap wise

Probably insurance because Vak is on the IR and the Rangers only have 6 healthy dmen

Fun fact, the oldest dman on the Rangers now is Lindgren (7 days older then Fox) at 26 years old.
Ya but Mancini was already up, leaves us with 6 which is fine
