Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XIV (To trade or not to trade is the question)

Drury would have never had the guts to go in a different direction in net because it would have been too risky and cost him his job most likely. Now the rangers are f***ed.

To be honest, I agree with you. Joe Schoen went with positional value and moved on from Barkley and the entire fan base hates him now and he's the joke of the NFL.

They got to the ECF with Igor making under 6M and every single player on that he roster except for Cullye has gotten worse since. So paying Igor twice as much and fielding a worse roster is going to get better results?
I believe the idea is for the rest of the roster to not be worse by the time this extension kicks in or shortly after. Do with that as you will...

The only thing about all this other than saving all of Trouba’s cap is, no one will want to captain this team. Trading our last 3 Captains is going to look like the next guy is signing his own death warrant.

Pissing off both players and GMs alike are Drury’s speciality evidently

ahaha holy moly

Larry Brooks saying the Rangers are interested in Tkachuk turns into "gol dang drury sure better apologize to Ottawa's shitty GM! what a meanie!"

come the f*** onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

do people even pay a bit of attention to the shit they'er saying

e: I mean even the intial rumor wasn't that there was any actual negotiations or rumors just that Larry said the Rangers wanted Tkachuck. Suddenly Ottawa is shitting itself trying to tell the player they'll probably end up trading anyways "oh no we're not talking about trading you we promise!"

f*** off with this dumb shit

Reeks of insecurity...actually adds more fuel to the fire

Make that a 1C and 2C. Trocheck is a 3C on a cup winning team.
Whoa whoa whoa.

I said this when we sign trocheck. I was crucified around here by everyone for this exact statement. Wtf is happening today??

People are realizing I had info last weekend again and starting to come around to my thinking of the past years???

Eh. Trocheck's played much better than I expected for us. This is about the Tro I expected, even if he is a bit more checked out atm than I thought he'd be.

I didn’t say he was good at it. That is factually the exact role he was playing. He was replaced by… no one. Mancini is not ready for the NHL.
He's being replaced by Schneider and Schneider is being replaced by Mancini. Let's not be dense. You're smarter than this, you're just upset and frustrated.

Trouba was hated - mostly because of his cap hit. At Lindgren money he would have been just mediocre and not vilified. This year he has been sulking and sucked, but we still have less depth in front of Igor from a technical standpoint now. We didn’t maintain very much of the cap space we opened up either, so the cap benefit is essentially eliminated. Yes, we have tons of room to play at the TDL, if we even stay in the playoff picture, but we can’t add players with term unless we’re moving out more money with term. We need at least two top-4 D and realistically we need a top-six C. I don’t see us getting it with the chips we have remaining to move and the amount of cap we have. All we did was lock ourselves into mediocrity.

Also Igor turns 30 three months into this extension and has a 92M guaranteed coming his way. In this country club? With mediocrity in front of him every night? Probably have already seen the best we’ll ever see from him.
Here is the thing with Igor that gives me hope for longevity. His greatest strength is his ability to read the play and arrive to make a save before the play happens. He is not a reflex goalie, when he needs his reflexes the most is when he struggles. Reflexes get worse with age but reads and positioning get better.

Lol at the Ottawa management group going DEFCON1 at the Brooks comment. Surely they’re going to show similar outrage towards Jeff Marek and Daily Faceoff for suggesting the same exact thing. Give me a f***ing break. Focus your outrage on fixing your shithole of an organization and wondering why your star captain player wants to leave.

As to the Igor deal, I was joking earlier this morning that the monkey paw curling effect would be that Drury was going to parlay his cap savings directly into an Igor extension. It’s kind of typical, but I knew they’d never take the risk of building a team without Igor there as a safety net. I don’t think it’s the right move, but we’ll see how Igor bounces back. He’s trained in an era of Russian goalies built on technical perfection. Guys like Bob and Varlamov have aged well into the style (for the most part). Just gotta hope for the same and the cap to keep going up. I was looking forward to them resetting their internal cap around Fox.

Those types of personalities don’t typically make it to professional sports.

Mika has a ton of value around the league if he is willing to waive. 8mil isnt prohibitive for a team to take on a 70 point center who plays every situation (some better than others, but they dont know that). We got rid of Trouba with no money retained and recieved value back, albiet small. These guys are well regarded around the league. Even if we are sick of them after a decade of coming up short.
not currently
he's been in a funk for too long for the league generally to have confidence in him

So... once Igor's extension kicks in, we'll have roughly 2.5 million to address the following:

Panarin - N/A - N/A
Kreider/Lafreniere - Chytil/Trochek - N/A
Cuylle - Zibanejad - Kakko/Smith
Edstrom - Carrick - Vesey

Brodz
Rempe

N/A - Fox
N/A - Schneider
Jones/Miller - N/A (maybe Mancini next year)

Mancini
Lindgren
Vaak
Someone else needs to go.

Surprised no one jumped on Emily’s intermission reporting. Emily Kaplan just confirmed a deal was in place with Detroit but there was a player on Detroit’s side who was not willing to waive their No Trade. They have multiple players who have a Trade Protection in some fashion.

Forwards;

Larkin
Debrincat
Copp
Compher
Kane
Tarasenko

Defense;

Chiarot
Holl
Petry

The only reason for Staios to get mad in this situation is if it what Brooks said is true.

I know Mancini got recalled already didnt he?

Now, I see Robertson is also getting recalled.

Is there another move coming tomorrow or something?
No, that's just to have a backup. Imagine a defenseman comes down with a flu at 6pm. You'll want a body ready to fill in. Wait, they sent Ruhdwedel back down awhile back right?
