i expect a forward will be our 1st pick. and probably our 2nd as well. but BPA trumps all in my book.

we still need an impact center and we will be active looking for a trade to make that happen.

i think if nothing else, this season has shown us that even if we draft a player top 3 lets say, we cannot expect they will be able to make an impact the same as a player whos say 22-34 and ready to contribute right now.

i think next year, we will see mika and XXXXXXX who knows who that will be but im sure it wont be anyone we draft next summer.

we have players - CK, ADA and skjei to deal plus the top prospect pool in the league.

there's a deal out there.
DeAngelo to Anaheim for Trevor Zegras. The universe corrects itself and Zegras ends up a Ranger as the universe intended.

Lundkvist, Hajek, Lindgren....these are all kids who play steady sound games. We need defenseman like them. They may not have the offensive talent that ADA or Fox have but they provide great balance. Lindgren brings the physicality. Hajek doesnt shy away from the physical play and makes good outlet passes to escape the zone.

Staal needs to be stapled to the press box at this point. Only way he gets back in is if DQ wants to send a message to Skjei for that garbage 2nd period he had.

I’d love Zegras but no chance he moves

Troy Terry or Sam Steel would be great though. Not that it would happen

huh ?

if he knows all the tricks on how to play defense how bout he plays some defense. maybe ?

sounds like he should be a practice guy or a healthy scratch guy and maybe an asst coach down the road but playing every game and using your criteria as why scares me.

he simply has nothing left in the tank

he cannot skate
he cannot handle the puck
he doesnt win many battles
he doesnt not and cannot shoot
he is a liability in all 3 zones.
he gets beat like a mule
hes teaching nothing good to anyone

Which part of " He does not have the legs to do it himself anymore" (which I wrote in my post) is it that you do not understand?

Probably waaaay premature....

Foxy is an OFD..

So is DeAngelo.....

But, they play nothing alike. They have very different styles..

I don’t see a future here for Lundkvist.
And it hurts saying that because I see him as a good medium to Fox and ADA who will have a good NHL career..

But I don’t think he’ll be as good as either player at what they really excel at..

Meh.... Guess we’ll see.. Again, it’s s good problem but it’s something I keep thinking about.

But isn't Lundkvist a pretty good defensive defenseman?

We really shouldn’t touch a dman this draft. It’s too much. Reuanen imo was super close to nhl ready and now he’s how far down the depth chart? We haven’t even seen rykov yet and I really like him.

And Zach Jones is looking at least right now like the steal of the draft.

I would take only forward this summer and I know that’s asking a lot but I’m serious at least thru the first 3 rounds

You should always take BPA, but anything close to a tie needs to go to the forward for sure.

Who is even our best forward prospect behind Kravtsov? Henriksson? Like, we're so bare up front in the pool. Granted a lot of our guys are graduating.

Right, it's bare, but we have 18, 20, 21 and 21 year old forwards on our active roster right now. And then higher end guys like Henricksson and Kravtsov in the pipeline. Yes, we need forward depth, bad, and on top of that, we could use another impact forward or two. But we are so young throughout the roster, it's not as urgent. If we end up with two firsts, I'd like both to be forwards, but beyond that, we could take a defenseman with a third first rounder, or in the second round, and I wouldn't flip out.

I guess in theory I wouldn't flip out if we had the 4th or 5th pick and we decided there was a Bowen Byram or Cale Makar or Quinn Hughes caliber defenseman available and we took that over a forward. A true #1D would be invaluable and someowhat forgiveable now that we at least have our stud forward in Kakko.

But yeah, all things being relatively close to equal, forward is the biggest priority right now, particularly, center.

this is the dirty little secret for this organization. we have a strong prospect pool but the real strength is d and net.

the forwards are thin. after the guys who have already "made it" there isnt much.

and the reality is for all the high end picks we have in the system at forward, we may well find that there isnt a legit top line guy in the bunch other than kakko. guys like kravtsov and chytil are talents but are the true 1st line guys ? the rest may well be bottom 6 types inc. a bunch of 1st rounders.

for example, morgan barron is a power forword big body guy but projecting him above the 3c is tough. and hes in our top 3 forwards prospects. ugh.

thats fine, but our drafting of blue chip type forwards continues to be at best, s0-so.

time to add some real scoring forward prospects.

henriksson is a nice prospect but more of the same afaic. need more.

Kravtsov maybe isn't a nearly-100% sure fire superstar like Kakko but if Kreider is a first line guy, then certainly Kravtsov's potential surpasses that level. Whether he reaches it is a question with any prospect, theoretically even Kakko, but that's not because of lack of trying on the part of the organization.

With Landeskog out for an extended period, I'd be calling Colorado every day to see if they want to finish that Kreider deal

Take the first good offer for him, I just have a feeling he's not going to have a great year

I don't post much (mainly a long-time lurker), but I threw out Compher's name a couple times recently to see if there was any reaction positive or negative. Nothing. LOL

We can even add a young D as a sweetener to still get a decent pick.

If the cliched “defensemen take longer to develop” thing has merit, it’s logical to load up on D earlier in a rebuild, no?

I expect them to go forward heavy from here at the draft, all else equal. And yes I would bet heavily on a few D for F trades over the next few years if things stay on this course.

it does yes

Totally.
G and D are set for a quite a while. Once we're starting to be really competitive, then we will be looking to bring the 20-22 year olds from the 2019-2021 drafts into the fold.

If we go forward heavy for the next two drafts, then it will line up pretty well with our timeline.

And with that, I've posted more in one thread than my entire decade plus on this site.:laugh::laugh:

What we need are stars. We have a boatload of depth, especially on defense. We need 1-2 more game changers.

Especially speed. Looking at guys like Marner and Point, as well as the guys in Boston, Debrincat in Chicago. Sure they are so good, but it’s not like they are “generational” talents. But the pay-off on these type of players if you have a strong core is just enormous.

And, I also think we see how Zibanejad as bigger center struggles a bit when we face those top lines that has a ton of speed down the middle. Like sure a lot can be pinned on our defenders — but facts are that it’s hard to blame Marc Staal 100% for Ziba-Panarin-Buch-Trouba playing a full game against McDavid without having the puck 5 on 5. Like we are talking about what 15-20 shifts, a lot of momentum shifts on a big portion of them without Staal ever being close to the puck.

If you want to shut down a line, expose them with speed. That will force them to play with a foot on the break every shift. Get the puck deep and play as much as you can with it.

A player 6’3 220 lbs like Zibanejad isn’t going to skate the top 10 centers in the NHL into the ground.

And if you have elite skill and speed it doesn’t necessarily have to be at center. Bergeron is hardly much of a dynamo, but then Marchand and Pasternak are tremendously strong agile wise and are like magnets on the puck and can set-off in the blink of an eye.

Ziba, Kakko, Buch, Kravy and Chytil, all these guys are big players. Was it two years ago, Tampa did not have a single forward taller than 6’1.

Panarin is amazing with and without the puck. If we are going to build a line that can match the best and go up against the No 1 lines around us I would build it around him and not Ziba. I think Lias Andersson could be a center that much like Bergeron ends up being really tough to play against. We just need a Brad Marchand to play on the right of Panarin-Lias... ;)

Compher wouldn't be a bad target, but I think Colorado just signed him long term right?

Probably means they're not super open to moving him atm
