Shooting 20% is unsustainable. Can't believe I have to keep having this conversation.

It's called a slump. Cuylle is going to go like ten games without a goal at some point because of course he is.
Even if he cools off with putting up points, he's been objectively great 5 v 5. He still deserves every minute of ice time he's getting and then some.

Don't disagree with that at all.

My whole thing is, when he doesn't actually score 32 even strength goals (which eight guys did last year, and it's a list of Hall of Famers and also Zach Hyamn) I don't wanna hear "oh he stopped going to the net!"

Yep, everything he touches atm turns into a high danger chance or a point. It's not always going to be like that but he is playing really well overall.

Kreider and Trouba are the movable core players. If people consider trading them and chaff like Lindgren/Smith as a "rebuild" they can call it what they want. I don't see guys like Miller and Kakko moving. Not Drury's MO. Trocheck fits the direction the Rangers are trying to go and has chemistry with our best players. He's more likely to be an interim captain than dealt.

Between Kreider/Trouba, the trade to make is Kreider. You can get value back and capitalize on a declining asset. We have young wingers all over the lineup that need his ice time. Trouba can at least be relegated to the 3rd pair, and provides more of a physical intimidation element that absolutely matters. Plus the team sees him as a leader. Easier trade to make with 1 year left in the offseason. We all know there is a MIka element to this as well. He won't agree to leave if Kreider sticks around. The trade is coming down the tracks, it's only a matter of when.
nope
IF Jake T will go, show him the door
he has reduced himself to emergency 7D and if forced I'd play him 4RW, but I'd prefer to ditch now

Kreider still has actual ability, is good value now and likely to extend team friendly here

stop
lose the deadwood

something around
fully retained Zib + Fox for Miller as a core
that is how you build long term

Kreider is still in like the top 15% in top speed.

Hes fallen off but he is still objectively fast.
kudos for this^
to those saying otherwise let's be fair/honest
playing w/bad back/related issues
c'mon

Was organizing the storage room in my basement over the weekend and came across this in a box.
A game program in very good shape from 12/22/1980 vs the Calgary Flames:

One game?
yes - the post i responded to said that things will happen based on the result of tonight's game. I think thats ridiculous. If something happens it should be the result of acknowledging the teams much deeper flaws, which are endemic and chronic, rather than just whatever we might see tonight.

I think tonight is a better measuring stick than mtl who are probably going to be ina race for 1oa.

It wasnt possible though

buying out Trouba and not signing Lindgren was very possible

The Rangers trade Trouba, retain 25% of his salary, and use the $6M savings to sign Roy? For what? These would just be lateral moves designed to keep everyone employed and tickets selling.

It’s the classic “look, we did something” approach that doesn’t actually address the real issues. Why are the Rangers so poor at even strength? They rarely control possession and constantly rely on the power play (like they did against the Habs) and stellar goaltending to win. That’s not a sustainable strategy.

Meanwhile, the second and third highest-paid forwards on the roster have been invisible for a while, and the blame keeps shifting to the rotating cast of right wings. The team’s approach of trying to win with three scoring lines doesn’t seem to be working.

And yes, we poke fun at Larry Brooks for his obsession with the lack of a shutdown checking line, but he has a point. The Rangers don’t have a unit to neutralize the opposition’s top center, and it’s becoming glaringly obvious.

The Rangers need real change.

if you think Trouba to Roy is a lateral move then you're straight up wrong. and Lindgren to Walker is an even bigger jump. the defense would be outstanding with those two upgrades, good enough to win a cup this season and next. after that, I don't really care about the consequences. the biggest problem with the team is that it plays two non-NHL caliber defensemen 16 minutes a night. fix that problem and a lot of the other issues (certain forwards not performing) go away.

Rangers should continue to get Kakko reps at C to mitigate this. Lafreniere eventually deserves them too. I think the team would be smart to target and undervalued young center with upside in a hypothetical Trouba/Kreider trade. Although we tend to undervalue our own young players.
Dach .

modern NHL attacks require a defenseman to jump in as a '4th forward'....

our problem.... Trouba and Lindgren. That 2/3rds of the game with them on the ice.

We need way more from KAM and Schneider in this regard. Jones steps in you realize what we're missing on all 3 pairs... He's the best skaters on our blueline imo. Now go get a player like can skate like Jones but better overall package.

Having defenseman that can skate probably the most important aspect. Not just straight line speed.... I feel it tingle a bit when you see Jones and/or Mancini be able to skate like a modern day NHL player... KAM is a great athlete but he's a bit clunky. Schneider is solid. Fox looks like he's pulling a piano sometimes.

Schneider is an underrated skater & the only thing KAM does well recently is skate. Fox is a lost cause skating wise, which is why we need an upgrade to be his partner.

jumping up as the 4th forward is one of the only things Trouba is actually good at but for some reason never does it (gassed from being pinned in his own zone for 1:30)

KAM's agility/lateral movement is clunky. it's the in-tight movements and edgework to go along with decent stride/speed.

he has great recovery speed though.

I'm not saying he's slow. He's just not particularly fast. Plenty of other guys have a better top speed now. He used to be the fastest player in the world at full sprint.
Turk used to warn his junior players not to have sex when they were in the playoffs back in the day when he coached Junior A locally as he said it took the legs from them . LOL....I doubt many listened .
