that unproven is already better than Trouba. Whether it's Mancini or Ruhwedel, we'd be better on ice and the elephant in the room would be gone
I mean the phrase "addition by subtraction" gets thrown around a lot here, but in this instance it's accurate.

We all knew this was coming after the off season ATTEMPT

It should've never reached the point it is now.

Waive him ASAP

I have hard time believing the players are so bent out of shape about Goodrow. I think it’s something else or a lot more.
The idea the Rangers suck because Goodrow got waived is hilarious to me. This team has had the same problems and sucked with Goodrow, but now the rationale for their incompetence is waiving a guy who never deserved the contract he had in the first place? What a load of shit.

I don’t see how a full rebuild could happen. The team has Fox, Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil(RIP), Cuylle, Schneider, Jones, Mancini and likely Shesty. It’s a retool towards the younger core which we all knew was coming.

I’m also 70/30 leaning towards re-signing Panarin if his asks are reasonable.

Kreider
Zibanejad
Trochek
Smith
Lindgren
Trouba

That’s my ‘sell’ list over the next 12 months. And honestly, Drury is in a unique spot because many of these guys don’t HAVE to be sold by this deadline as their contracts don’t run out this year.
I don’t think Troch has to go. He’s a good 3C at his AAV going forward who steps it up in the post season, a subpar quarter season isn’t enough to put me off of him.

There's a right and a wrong way to do things, even difficult personnel moves. Goodrow had an awful season, but he stepped up when it mattered most, which is why Drury brought him here in the first place right? More than I can say for the other superstars on this squad in the Florida series.

Lets not mention that Goodrow's playstyle wasn't replaced by anyone within the team... so back to soft again. Grit plan is over... ready to have our stars beaten to death again.

Let's not pretend that lockeroom morale had no effect on the team though, right? You don't think this bunch was affected by the way Goodrow was treated? Drury publicly trying to jettison the captain?

Unprofessional. sloppy and disrespectful. That's not cold and businesslike... it's dumb.. it's ignorant...

Hey, you get what you get now. Dolan cares about the Knicks.

he's one of the guys that gives effort. I'd have him as a part of the new vet core.

The players are clearly a group of babies, but I think it’s pretty obvious at this point that Drury’s and impersonal douche that handles a room full of personalities like a live grenade.

Gorton and JD botched the rebuild without a doubt, but Drury’s been clearly below average as a GM imo.

Unless this ship gets dramatically righted over the next couple of months, he should not be allowed to make any more major decisions with this team.

How many players met up with him when SJ was in town? Fox and Panarin, Mollie reported. Two guys.

They're whining because their little insular world is crashing down with Drury taking the hammer to it.

Drury has been an absolute disaster.

The Buch trade was f***ing awful. 2nd + Blais.

7th for Goodrow's rights, followed by that contract that everyone on these boards knew was shit.

A 3rd for Reaves. 4th for Vatrano. Another 4th for Motte. 1st, 2nd and a 5th for Copp + 6th.

A 3rd for 8 regular season games and 19 playoff games of Justin f***ing Braun. He got 2 3rd's and a 5th for Georgiev which was good.

He had to give away a 2nd and 3rd to rid himself of Nemeth almost exactly 1 year after signing him to that ridiculous 3 year deal.

1st, 4th, and Skinner for Tank and Mikkola. Gauthier and 7th for Motte, again.

A 2nd and 4th for Kane(?). Another 2nd + 4th for Alex f***ing Wennberg? 3rd for Roslovic. 4th for Ruhwedel. A 2nd and 5th for Smith.

Drury walked into a contending team and has absolutely derailed this rolling train you speak of. This organization is a f***ing joke.
Derailed it right into two ECF appearances in 3 years…
I understand not liking a lot of the moves, but saying he derailed the train when we went deeper into the playoffs than prior to him is a bit off.

So we’re saying Goodrow wasn’t treated well yet we’re suggesting Mika be benched, given Rempe minutes, abused and mistreated until he waives? Ok

I'd like to have that optimism.

Kreider - maaaybe, but Drury is gonna fumble that trade for sure.

Z - again NMC, we're stuck, and if by some voodoo coincidence, he waives, the return will be very very bad. Again, I can see some dumb f*** in the FO retaining on the contract to get rid of it.

Smith - dunno man, we pay a 2nd+, should get a 2nd back ... ok.

Vesey - 4th/3rd rd pick?

Lindgren - here I see the potential for a steal, use every trick in the book to sell him high. 1st +

Trouba - I'd play hardball, 1st +, but Drury is gonna mishandle this one for sure.

I highly doubt we'll get "a lot".
I mean, even if we literally just get what you mentioned, maybe a less for trouba, that is a lot cause it is just a lot of trades. The Best will be Igor and Kreiders return. Eat salary for Zib sure. We will be able to do a lot with what we open up. Lindgren retained will get you something for sure. It would be a good reset.

I don't know if Drury is the guy or not. I dont know if he will get max value, but no one ever does. Thats never how things work in the real world. All I know is whoever it is, they should do it now. Get a head start and you might even still be able to fight for a playoff spot.

I have said it before but a guy like Mavrik Bourque from Dallas would fit really well. Young center. Dallas has a lot of skilled young forwards. They may like the idea of adding a veteran power forward who can replace what Pavelski brought to them on the PP.
is he playing Center? doesn't really move the needle for what we need

I think a lot of you posters are being unrealistic. They aren’t going to blow up the entire roster and trade 6 guys or whatever (most with clauses in their contracts limiting Drurys options) the first week of December. That’s how bad deals are born. Start small, waive Drury or Lindgren. Play Mancini or Rehwedal. They actually looked pretty good last season when Trouba was out. Losing one of those guys will be a pretty seismic shift in the room. They need a reset. Let these guys play try to play thier way out if whatever the hell this is. Before you know it, the deadline will be here. Teams will have a better idea of what they want/need.

Kinda funny Drury has to deal with a difficult captain after he himself refused to retire despite a career ending injury and forced the Rangers to buy him out. Homegrown captain next please and thank you

OK OK OK, HERE IT IS!! I'VE GOT IT, YOU GUYS GET DIBS BEFORE BIG BOARD...

Per my usual, best hope for at least 1 if not multiple cups = EXTEND the window
this means deal vets for youth, few exceptions notwithstanding.

The out of nowhere Zib meltdown has complicated things with great negative forces. Even a premium payment to remove him must be acceptably profitable to a trade partner and that is not readily visible other than gutting nyr to an intolerable degree.

I cannot 111% completely fix probs w/coupla moves, but I can better reposition us.

VAN disputes JT Miller is at odds w/Elias Petterssen, which is ordinarily only real reason for a trade. We are targeting VAN b’c it is a possible relocation for Zib, based only on the thought that as a reclamation project zib and fellow swede EP could not just speak the same language, but get on the same wavelength. This, plus deteriorating nyr situation, plus VAN being a legit cup contender, should induce zib to waive.

Now Zib is gonna have to be max retained, so his 8.5 = 4.25, and if the above scenario does not work out, then VAN can eat another 2-ish and move Zib to a cap floor dweller. But ‘nucks are also gonna need ‘too much on the table to turn down’ to choose a deal. So here goes...

1. Rs-‘nucks
Fox is at 9.5 for 4 additional seasons taking him to age 30 [31?], currently not showing trade protection clauses. He will be asked to make the ultimate sacrifice [even tho his permission is not required], knowing he has zib to thank, along w/fact R mgmt wrongly has not listened to bern on refusing NMCs.
Add Zib max reduced 8.5 to 4.25 + Jones .800+
to ensure this deal, kicker is NYR 2025 1st [which may not be late given current dive]

cap total is around 13.3

For

JT Miller (we will assure him if he likes it, fine, if he wants out, we will accommodate to preferred relocation as best as we reasonably can) = 8 per
Raty= .800+
Juulsen = 775k
+ Forbort = 1.5 expiring [listed as IR]
VAN gives next 2 2nds 2025 + 2026
cap total is around 11.2

VAN will juggle to get cap compliant

This ^ gives ‘nucks a solid RD first pair complement to 1LD Hughes at a time when Hronek is out long term, and Forbort is np atm. Zib is the x factor. He was fine til he lost his chemistry w/Kreider and now this stretch is particularly bad. But if he can get back on track – and not seeing any physical reason that is not so – they have a bargain for 2C on their hands.
Jones also younger, better than Branstrom, plays either side, is a good immediate and long term fit.

Rs get out from under the Zib nmc at great cost.
Raty is interesting as a young pivot.
More on how everything fits after other deals...

2. Rs-Devs
had hoped to max retain on bread for Nemec and Silayev but not getting that vibe on the boards, some indication maybe one or the other [for unretained bread] but not both

so, bread 11.6+ for
Nemec [recent 2OA] elc, +
cap dumps Palat [presumes he waives] 6 per x 3 + Haula 3.15 x 2 and Tatar 1.8 expiring ufa

So Jersey is deep at RD atm, so much so that nemec is in the A.
Palat and Haula are solid, but bread is special, and this gives them inside track to offer an extension and if so at what rate going forward. Obv he would help w/scoring.

For NY Nemec is useful flip [discussed below] and avoids discussion about extending Panarin salary. Palat, Haula, Tatar likely flipped

3. NYR-LAK
While surrender of Byfield is a major concession, Kings win this deal, but it is still a fit for Rs.

W/LA in on discussions, Shesty extended 12.2 x 5, no NMC, limited ntc, which as an extension kicks in next season. Rs eat 2m per beginning this season and continuing.
Add KAM rfa - new deal after this season
add Nemec elc

Now there is too much on the plate for Kings to refuse. Obv Byfield is heir to Kopitar and now that has to have plan b alternate, but Ks still have good pivot depth and too many issues solved by this to decline.

The above 3 for Byfield

NOTE: with this trade now, Shesty’s current salary is not 12.2 - 2, but 5.6 -2 = 3.6, so add KAM + Nemec elc it is ballpark to Byfield’s #.
We can take back Rittich 1m expiring ufa if they don’t prefer to sell him elsewhere

4. Rs - Ds
Palat, Haula, Tatar, Robertson + Vesey
for
Dumoulin, Helleson + pick(s)

rationale: Ducks looking for F support, are good at pivot regardless of Zegras and Huala by now = good option to upgrade, phase out Strome, get something selling him somewhere now given Huala arrival. Tatar is just a try me F, Robertson a prospect not properly developed w/good size, etc. Palat is proven PO scorer, has value. Helleson has shown signs but is far enough down they can let him go. Dumoulin would be a small wince but worth it.

5. Rs-Bs
Broberg just now off LTIR
for
acceptable prospect assets Sykora + Bryce McConnell Barker + Groulx + Ruhwedel + pick(s)

Idea is Sykora close to ready was a 2nd rounder, projects as a mid 6 F; Groulx drafted high by Ducks (2nd round), not certain to hit but shows upside in the A. BMB is extra. Ruhw is stopgap placeholder for backline. Pick(s) balance out.

Broberg helps at LD now and we see if we can tap his visible/invisible potential while we wait for Fortescue, Emery, and whoever else shows up.

To demonstrate complete shedding of old core except Kreider, who deserves to stay, deal Trouba + Lindgren for best offer.
Having already retained on Shesty + Zib, if Lindy retained if retention is nec Trouba will have to wait til Lindgren’s retention is finished. Otherwise if he wants out now, he can go now. (LI?) Maybe possible to deal Lindy no retention.

____________

So what does all this leave us?

Kreider - Byfield - Miller
LaF - Tro - Berard
Cuylle - Chytil/Brodz - Kakko
Eds - Brodz/Rempe -Rempe

Raty is your 13th F getting into some games now, keeps everybody fresh.
Carrick + Smith = forward depth, add Gabe P next year
Othmann is a wild card, pushes Berard loser traded for D help

G remains Garand heavily supported by Quick + Domingue

D (for now)
Broberg - Schneider
Dumoulin - Mancini
stopgap below or otherwise __________ - Juulsen/Helleson

Forbort once available

usual suspects for LD depth: Scanlin/Harpur/Mackey
Rasmus Larsson and Hank Kempf may be close enuf for cup of coffee if available

til later peeps
