Drury walked in to a contending team and has done all he can to keep that train rolling. Some of his moves to nibble around the edges have been good, some have been meh. I’m game to sit and watch how he handles this. I think he at least deserves a chance to put his stamp on the team. Every offseason he has had so far has been trying to find a way to improve or stay the same based on the past years success.

Changes are happening, question is whether it’s a retool or a full rebuild. I think it will be a retool. 50/50 on whether Drury is in charge.

Drury cannot just issue that memo with no backup plans if it failed. That alone is embarrassing and fireable. That said - lets see what he can pull out of his magic hat over the next 2 weeks or so.

I don’t see how a full rebuild could happen. The team has Fox, Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil(RIP), Cuylle, Schneider, Jones, Mancini and likely Shesty. It’s a retool towards the younger core which we all knew was coming.

I’m also 70/30 leaning towards re-signing Panarin if his asks are reasonable.

Kreider
Zibanejad
Trochek
Smith
Lindgren
Trouba

That’s my ‘sell’ list over the next 12 months. And honestly, Drury is in a unique spot because many of these guys don’t HAVE to be sold by this deadline as their contracts don’t run out this year.

I jettison Panarin. I keep Kreider and Trocheck. I like the rest of your list.

Every mess needs a Messier! Bring in Mark, staple him to a guy who knows math and contracts and such and let the fireworks begin - Homan style

I knew this would happen when my avatar rights were removed

That's Crosby in this scenario and I can't see it happening.

The JT Miller talk is hilarious. What’s the it going to take like Zibanejad + 4 1sts ? No way Vancouver wants any of our garbage.
zib at full pop is too toxic
must be max retained, so if he flames out, new team can eat 2m further and flip to 3rd team
we have to prepay that to make that aspect of it profitable for them

we then have to do a big deal so it is otherwise worthwhile esp if JTM comes back

again, listen to bern, NO NMCS TO ANYBODY EVER, PERIOD

$5?

What kind of shitty eggs are you buying RB?

Spend the extra $3 and get Nelly’s organic free range eggs.
let's go one further
add 2 bucks more, make it an even $10, and get the ones that came out the ass of the goose that laid the golden eggs

While the players shoulder most of the blame here, I have become increasingly disenchanted with Drury.

The Goodrow situation: mishandled.

The summer Trouba situation: mishandled.

The "trade memo" imbroglio: mishandled.

How long before Dolan awakens from the Knicks to examine the Rangers?

Right now, this team is not being handled in a professional manner.

Yea, let's do a full rebuild even though most of them don't work and the ones that do "work" almost never show results before like 10 years.

I don't see anything wrong that Drury has done lately.

Goodrow - everyone wanted him out of here. He got him out of here for no cap hit. That's a great job.

Trouba - The guy has a NTC and waited as long as possible to give it. That's his right. Once 7/1 hit there was no longer really any point in moving him since it would just lead to unused cap space since almost all the useful UFA were already gone.

Lindgren - He gave him a 1 year deal which is almost surely better than letting him go for nothing because despite him not being good those guys always have trade value around the league. The plan should have been to give him one year, and then deal him midseason, but we will see what he does. If he extended him long term that would be a mistake.

Current situation - is he not supposed to try and make a trade? If another team leaked it how is that his problem? If he's looking to make moves he needs to contact everyone not just one to two teams.

Buch - Get over it, it was four years ago. His current contract isn't even looking good as his numbers last year and this year seem to be in steep decline.

More importantly, why do you think any other GM would be any better? They all do the same stuff. They almost all have the same qualifications as "former player." The ones that are perceived as good are largely due to just being lucky with draft picks. Steve Yzerman, wow some amazing GM in TB look at how he got Kucherov/Point etc. later in the draft. How come he can't do the same thing in Detroit?

Drury has been an absolute disaster.

The Buch trade was f***ing awful. 2nd + Blais.

7th for Goodrow's rights, followed by that contract that everyone on these boards knew was shit.

A 3rd for Reaves. 4th for Vatrano. Another 4th for Motte. 1st, 2nd and a 5th for Copp + 6th.

A 3rd for 8 regular season games and 19 playoff games of Justin f***ing Braun. He got 2 3rd's and a 5th for Georgiev which was good.

He had to give away a 2nd and 3rd to rid himself of Nemeth almost exactly 1 year after signing him to that ridiculous 3 year deal.

1st, 4th, and Skinner for Tank and Mikkola. Gauthier and 7th for Motte, again.

A 2nd and 4th for Kane(?). Another 2nd + 4th for Alex f***ing Wennberg? 3rd for Roslovic. 4th for Ruhwedel. A 2nd and 5th for Smith.

Drury walked into a contending team and has absolutely derailed this rolling train you speak of. This organization is a f***ing joke.

Keep: Kreider Trocheck Lafreniere Kakko Cuylle Fox Schneider Jones Mancini

Toss: Panarin Zibanejad Smith Trouba Lindgren Miller

Not sure what to do about Igor and Chyil.

How was the Goodrow situation mishandled? I’m sure he tried to trade the player. I’m sure they knew San Jose was the only place that would take him got his entire contract

Switch Kreider/Panarin and I agree.

I think Kreider will win a Cup somewhere as the rugged vet. He plays playoff brand hockey.

Don't agree with that at all. Like the regular season, he shows up 1 out of every 7 games in the playoffs.

The Goodrow situation was handled expertly. If the players don’t like it they should take it up with the league next CBA because clearly it is very flawed that there is basically no such thing as a NTC to the worst team in the league. Make it so a NTC is essentially a “no acquirement clause” to any team on the players list without his permission - in any format. If San Jose was on Goodrows NTC list they also should not be permitted to add him on waivers.

But that’s not the rule now and if players have an issue with it they should negotiate to change it

I don’t doubt that but he has legitimate value and he’s unlikely to win one here

Not directed at you below

The same people saying Drury mishandled the Goodrow situation are clamoring for him to waive Trouba

Trade Igor and keep Chytil.

Igor can get 12 mil from some other team. Chytil is affordable and productive when healthy. If he isn't healthy, we can put him on LTIR, and he only has 2 years left on his contract. If we are trading Trocheck and still carrying around the corpse of Mika, then we need at least one competent center.

The Rangers are truly a mess right now.

The veterans’ reaction to this adversity are unprofessional and limit what little goodwill this fan had left towards them as a group.

Kreider’s “don’t trade for me” routine is extremely unprofessional. The entitlement of these players, who are trying to influence trades in the media while putting up turd after turd is revolting.

But the core take away here has to be Drury yet again exposing his lack of fitness for the job. He sent a league wide email that essentially could have been a post on here in a PGT. Now your players are leaking their injuries to the press and publicly daring you to trade them. Well done Chris. Absolute clown show.
